Providence Part 2

August 11, 2011 | Uncategorized

Friday eve! How is it Thursday already? The days are flying by!

I am going to combine these two days because there were both expo days and we well…worked the expo! Friday morning though, Michelle and I went for about a 3.5 mile shake out run to explore Providence. it was so much fun, because we ended up running by a lot of the same places in the race Sunday! We stopped along the way so I could take pictures, too.

we LOVED the architecture, all the old buildings were so beautiful! They just don’t make them like that anymore!

We found a pretty park with a pretty fountain on our way back.

This moment was when I realized just how hilly Providence was and that well…I was in trouble for the race!!! We showered and got ready for the opening day of the expo!

I had a blast working with Michelle, we busted our butts but had a great time!

That night we ate at Panera bread again. We were SO hungry, we had only eaten samples of larabars and snickers marathon bars all day during the expo! I actually had a SALAD people! If you know me you know this doesn’t usually happen, so I had to take a picture.

At dinner I was telling Michelle about the wonder that is froyo. Can you believe she had never had it? That was all I needed to hear, I was on a mission! I pulled out my phone and used my handy dandy yelp app and found a froyo place about a mile away. So, we set out on foot…only to get lost about 100 times…and it was getting dark.

We FINALLY found it after walking about 3 miles up and down hills…but it was so worth it. I think I got Michelle hooked!

I had watermelon and mixed berries with strawberries and cherries on top.

On the way back we stopped to get a better look at some of the beautiful buildings all lit up at night.

We had a few minutes to hit the hot tub again, then we hit the pillows!

The next day was a full day of expo-ing (is that a word?) and again we had such a great time! I had so much fun meeting so many blog readers (hi everyone, thanks for stopping by! I met so many of you I can’t remember names but you were all so sweet!)

I did get a pic with Becky and Lauren though!

Also, it just so happens the RunDisney booth was right near ours, and of course I made friends with the workers and told them I was running Princess, and Michelle said she was running tinkerbell, and he gave us WANDS that had just come in that no one had gotten yet! We were so excited!

After the expo closed we had the crazy task of breaking everything down by 10:00 and getting it out of the convention center. We were so exhausted I think both of us were ready to cry, but we got it all done by 11:00 (with a quick break to eat dinner at UNO’s again!) We knew we went to sleep way too late for a 7:00 am race, but we didn’t really have a choice!

Overall, I had a great expo experience, loved meeting everyone (especially my readers!) Loved selling running skirts, it was an amazing experience!

QOTD: Do you have any pre race rituals? do anything special the night before?

Please enter my raffle! Only a couple days left! LOTS of great prizes and it’s all for a great cause! Check it out on my raffle page!

Looks like you guys had a blast! Funny about the RunDisney booth, too! I don’t race much, so my pre-race rituals have gone by the wayside…especially the proper eating. I make sure I have all my race gear laid out…chip or d-tag on shoe, fuel out, water bottles ready to be filled, bib on shirt, etc. Then, race morning, I make sure to eat something. Usually 1/2 a promax bar and a banana, or bagel w/ pb. Since I’ve recently seen how coffee (caffeine) helps my runs, I think I will start having a cup of coffee with soymilk when I get up on race morning, to give it plenty of time to circulate (and exit! haha) pre-race. I wouldn’t want it to sit in my stomach. Ick.

I don’t what’s more shocking about this post: the fact that you ate a salad or that your friend never had froyo!

OMG I ran the Princess Half this year, and it is SOOOOO much fun!!!!! I have never enjoyed a race more, and absolutely loved seeing everyone in their costumes. It’s a bit of a bummer that you spend so much time on back roads, but getting to go behind the scenes in the parks is amazing. I can’t wait to go back and do it again in 2013! (I’m getting married in 2012, otherwise I’d probably be going down for it again!)

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
