Run Pink

October 18, 2012 | fitness, running

I love racing for many reasons. The competition, to stay active and healthy, to be social, and a great one is to help out a worthy cause. In December, I will be running the Woman’s Half Marathon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Woman’s Half Marathon & 10K will benefit the Woman’s Hospital Foundation and will go to support the many services Woman’s provides to women and infants in the community. Then, Run Pink was born. I am honored to be a Run Pink Ambassador, spreading the word about this and other Gulf Coast Event Group races, and answering your questions about the race.

First, the lowdown on the race:

Race Day: Sunday, December 9, 2012
Start Time: 7:00 a.m.
Start/Finish Location: South River Road, between the Baton Rouge River Center & the USS Kidd. – Downtown, Baton Rouge, LA
Weather: Average High Temp: 63 degrees F, Average Low Temp: 42 degrees F

Course Limit: Half Marathon course is open for 4 hours, 10K course is open for 2 hours. *Participants running/walking slower than 4 hour pace will be asked to move to the sidewalks if approached by the sweeper team.

Wellness Boutique & Packet Pick-up
Friday December 7th & Saturday December 8th
Location TBA
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

It’s going to be a lot of fun, I hope you will consider joining me for this half marathon or 10k. Also, I have a way for you to save some money! If you use code RPAHeather at checkout, you will save $30 on registration!

*There is now a 5k option and the code will save you $5

Also be sure to follow the race on Twitter! If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

QOTD: Have you ever signed up for a race because of the cause or who was benefitting from it?

My mom is a breast cancer survivor. When I told her I was considering this race, she instantly said she’d cover my entry fee. So I will be toeing the line and running for her because her determination and fight is a constant source of inspiration for me.

And I’m planning to run the Long Beach Carnival Classic half in January because it supports our son’s school. I think running in support of a charity that you believe in makes all the difference in the world.

I love races that benefit a good cause! Combining running and charity brings together two wonderful things. Good for you for getting involved in this awesome event! I haven’t ever chosen a race based on the cause that it benefitted, but I can definitely see myself doing that in the future sometime

Sounds like a great race and an even better reason to run it!

I signed up for my next race partially on who was benefiting. The other is it’s 20 miles from my home. The races benefit the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Have you ever looked into healthcare sharing before? If you are curious like me, check out the link in my bio or stories for info!

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.
