runDisney Glass Slipper Challenge Round 2

February 3, 2016 | blogging, Disney, runDisney, running, Travel

Hi friends! In case you missed my ‘hinting” in my Instagram post on Monday, I AM RUNNING THE RUNDISNEY GLASS SLIPPER CHALLENGE! Jen and I have been planning this for awhile, but it took until yesterday to get all the details hammered out, so I didn’t want to share until we knew FOR SURE it was happening.

So here is mine and Jen’s history with the Glass Slipper challenge, and it’s not a good one. In 2014, I ran the inaugural challenge. At the time, I was nine weeks pregnant, and morning sickness was in full swing. No one but family and close friends knew I was pregnant, so I figured I could just run, have fun, and conceal my pregnancy for a few more weeks.

Bobby, my parents, and myself all ran the 5k together, well, run walked which was fine with me because I was not feeling so hot.

The next day, my mom and I ran the 10k together, and the lack of sleep plus not eating much and the nausea really hit me and I was miserable and cranky the whole race. Also, after crossing the finish line at the 10k, Carissa texted me because Rudy wanted to know if I was pregnant! OMG! I knew I was bloated and already starting to show a little but this terrified me that people would find out. So I told, but swore them to secrecy, and wore loose tops the rest of the trip.

After the 10k, I crawled into bed and slept for hours. I experienced exhaustion like never before and don’t even know how to explain it. I felt so bad because I was ruining the trip for everyone. The next day I ran the half alone, and cried when I had to get out of bed at 2:45 while everyone else slept. I managed to finish the half but it was really difficult feeling so nauseated and tired.

I again slept all afternoon, and we barely made it to the parks at all. I would call that a less than magical Glass Slipper experience. Honestly, I was so scared by it that even though I ran last year, I only signed up for the half marathon. Of course once I was there I wanted to run the whole thing, but I just did my one race. I was only 4 month post baby, so I wasn’t exactly ready for the challenge.

Then we have poor Jen who was signed up for Glass Slipper last year but ended up in the ER with a bad stomach virus the night before the 10k. She ran the half with me and we took it nice and slow, so yes, she needs a redo as well!

So, we will be back, both signed up for the Glass Slipper Challenge, and both desperately trying to stay well! We will be staying at Hilton Bonnet Creek for two night and then Port Orleans Riverside for two nights. We are frantically trying to pull costumes together for the half, and I have nothing planned for the 10k as of right now. I need some inspiration!

QOTD: Are you running the runDisney Glass Slipper Challenge? Favorite costume you have seen at a race?

My mom and I will be doing the Glass Slipper Challenge this year! This will also be my mom’s first half marathon. Can’t wait to experience this awesome trip with her. I will be Pocahontas (10K) and Daisy Duck (half marathon) and my mom will be Minnie for her first half. I went a little Etsy crazy trying to buy clothes for the costumes. All your post race recaps are huge helps and motivators! Thanks for sharing all your awesome tips and stories.

Fingers crossed for a fun and healthy trip! As for costumes… if you want to stay in theme, but not be Ariel, you could go the Flounder/Sebastian/Scuttle route. Or two of Ariel’s sisters? Have a great trip!

What about a jungle book theme for costumes? I was trying to think of something that would be different or how about something from Aladdin?

I’m so not creative. We have half marathon costumes but I will not be running the 10k with Jen so I am not sure what I will do

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
