runDisney Princess News and Registration Information

June 5, 2013 | Disney, fitness, runDisney, running

I have accurate and CONFIRMED information straight from runDisney concerning the Princess half marathon weekend.

photo (39)

It’s almost time! Registration for the runDisney Princess half marathon opens to the public on June 11th. For Annual Passholders and DVC members, it opens tomorrow June 6th*. Not only is the Princess half an amazing and fun race, but this year there is a new component for you to “try on”, the Glass Slipper Challenge.

IMG_1652 - Copy

This challenge consists of running the Enchanted 10k on Saturday, and the Princess half marathon on Sunday (there is also a Cinderella Royal Family 5k, but it’s not part of the challenge.)

runDisney has also made some for-the-better adjustments to how this years race will be run. Folks, they are listening to the runners and care about our happiness and our safety. Check out some of the new information I was given as confirmed:

-The same new features added to marathon weekend 2014 will carry over to Princess such as decreased number of registrants by about 2k (mainly in the half marathon), more and smaller corrals for a better flow and less congestion, and stricter proof of time (everyone running a 3:15 and under will have to offer one).

-The cutoff date for giving runDisney a proof of time will be December 1, 2013. Changes cannot be made at the expo like in previous years.

-The Fit for a Princess health and fitness expo will reclaim it’s throne at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, and will NOT be held at Coronado Springs Resort like it was in 2013.

-All resorts will be host hotels for the event. This means it doesn’t matter where on Disney property you stay, you will get transportation to and from the expo and races!

-There will be a LIMITED number of spots for people registering for Princess that can ALSO register for the Tinkerbell half marathon in Disneyland! This will guarantee your ability to get the awesome new coast to coast medal (see below). Once these spots are gone, you will have to wait until July to register for Tink.

-Runners will receive a special pink coast to coast medal for completing both the Tink half and Princess half in one calendar year. You can also get a second coast to coast medal if you complete another set of coast to coast races such as wine and dine half and the Disneyland half.

princesscoasttocoast

*If you would like to register for any of the Princess weekend events, I urge you to NOT WAIT. These races fill up fast, especially with a new challenge being added into the mix. Keep an eye on runDisney.com to see how full the races are, and register ASAP if you have your heart set on running. You will be able to register directly on the rundisney site on the 11th.

QOTD: Will you be registering for Princess and/or the glass slipper challenge? What about Tink? Thoughts on the PINK Coast to Coast?

*I cannot confirm Disney visa early registration or discount, but in the past it has happened!

I called earlier today. The gentleman at RunDisney told me “we actually do not know, there will be a discount by Visa, but we do not know if it will be before or after we go live on June 11th.” I just wish Visa would let us know. I’m regretting not getting an annual pass now (I just want to give Disney all my money!).

This is the first Disney I hope to register for; also I’ve never been to FL so this is my vacation treat to myself next year. Is it best to go through RunDisney. Com or call? I’m scared I may miss out with the reduced numbers and early registration tomorrow and have been training for this race. Will registration open at noon on the 11th also?

    • Heather says

      June 6, 2013 at 6:03 am

the numbers are only reduced by 2k so it won’t make a huge difference. you cannot call, you have to register online. yes it opens at noon

  23. renee saults says

    June 5, 2013 at 8:10 pm

I was thinking the same thing Tamara. How many spots are going to be open. This will be my first half marathon and want to do the glass slipper challenge and I have a couple friends planning to sign up but I’m afraid they won’t get in if they dont sign up on the 11th.

    • Heather says

      June 6, 2013 at 6:02 am

they ahven’t given an exact number of total spots or early registration spots, you just have to keep an eye on rundisney.com for the %

Sorry to sound like a pest. My first half marathon so I’m excited, if I can sign up. How do you tell on rundisney.com to get the % signed up?? I was just on there and didn’t see anything. Thanks for your information!! 🙂

        • Heather says

          June 6, 2013 at 12:58 pm

          they won’t put up a % until it’s over 50% full 🙂

My husband and I have done the marathon at WDW for the past two years (going Dopey this year!), but this will be my first time to do the Princess. So excited! Convinced my mother-in-law to do this with me, and it’ll be her first half marathon. 🙂

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!

LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷

Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Hav Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Haven was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway—and then some. ⛰️

This luxury cabin has 4 spacious bedrooms (including one with built-in bunks that my daughter loved) and 4 full bathrooms, making it perfect for a family trip or group vacation.

We spent our days soaking in the hot tub with mountain views, lounging on the deck by the fireplace with coffee in hand, and playing pool in the game room.

The cabin even has its own private sauna and steam room—YES, really! It felt like a full-on spa experience right in the woods. ✨

And one of the best surprises? It has its own playground, which was a total hit with with daughter and such a bonus for keeping little ones entertained.

We were just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but honestly, we barely wanted to leave. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains trip, Alpine Haven is that perfect mix of cozy, modern, and wow-worthy. 💫
