Runner’s World Skirted

July 3, 2011 | Uncategorized

Happy 4th of July eve! I trust your weekend is fabulous and festive! Today after church we are having a neighborhood shindig, I am curious as to how this will go being out in the heat and all….anyway, If you follow me on Twitter or like my Facebook fan page, you know that Running Skirts had the awesome honor of being on the COVER of the August issue of Runner’s World magazine! Our skirt AND arm sleeves grace the cover, and MANY more of our pieces are on the inside. SWEET!

look how awesome my fellow RS rep Paige looks on the inside of the mag!

(In case you were wondering, we DO have the preppy pink argyle skirt in stock in many sizes!)

I checked Barnes and Noble Thursday and Friday to no avail, but then got my issue in my mailbox Friday afternoon. I am proud to be a part of the Running Skirt family!

Speaking of which, yesterday, Bobby was able to join me at our Team in Training run of 5 miles along the path at the beach. It was at 6 am, which I’m not a fan of, but we did it, and did it almost 3 minutes faster than I ran last Saturday. Heck yes! I DO however need new shoes asap. I think they are what is giving me knee pain on my LEFT side. They have over 500 miles on them. Maybe 600. yeah, that bad.

Here I am after the humid sweaty run!

Skirted up in azure dot running skirt.

great. Now the sun is in my eyeballs.

Nicole’s first time to run 5 miles way to go! I even got her in a skirt! Not a RS skirt, but I’ll get her there.

QOTD: Do you subscribe to any magazines? Running or non running? I get Runner’s World and US weekly. I used to get SELF, but didn’t like the direction the magazine was going.

I get runner’s world and love it! I also get Self, Rachael Ray, Shape and Glamour. I get waay too many magazines because when they send out those deals of a year for $5-10, I just can’t turn it down because a single issue usually costs $4 at the grocery store. Those running skirts are cute!

Runners World, Coastal Living, Southern Living, Rachel Ray, couple of nursing journals… speaking of running shoes: I’ve recently been reading a lot of runners say they have more than one pair and rotate them. I have one pair. And wear them till they need to be replaced. What do you do?

    • Heather says

      July 5, 2011 at 12:19 pm

I have heard that too. I have never done the rotating thing, I just buy a pair, run about 400-450 miles, then demote them to cross training shoes.

I loved the cover of the new issue! Such a fun article. I noticed in the photo of Paige that she has bibs from Rock ‘n Roll Mardi Gras and Dallas – two races I did as well! Neat.

A note on your shoes, I use Brooks Vapor 8’s and demote them to walking shoes when I reach about 800 miles (1,300 km) on them. I have not noticed any problems with the soles at that point although I am usually about to put my big toe nail through the top. Using them for walking I usually keep them until just under 2,000 km’s.(1,200 miles). I track all my walking and running in SportTracks3 so I know how old/many km’s my socks, shoes and knee supports have done so that I protect myself from failing support 😉 Depends on model and brand of your shoes to how often you should look at changing them!

wow 800 miles? thats a lot! I demote mine to walking shoes then gardening/mud shoes, then they get donated ha!

Oh my…I really really want that pink skirt! 🙂 I was subscribed to Runners world for awhile but somehow it stopped. 🙁 That is the only magazine I would even want to subscribe too. Funny…even with all my wedding planning… I did not really get into wedding mags much. But wedding blogs…oh jeeze that is a whole other story!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
