Running Skirts Sales Summit

June 17, 2011 | Running Skirts

FRIDAY! I know I have been slacking on the Friday Favorites posts, but I REALLY want to tell you about my time with my new running skirts family, and don’t want to wait till Monday, so once again, no Friday favorites. But I think you will like this post!

Ok so we left off at the train station in San Diego. After sitting for a few minutes, I see one of the twins, in skirt gear of course, walking towards me. Yay! It finally felt real! It was Cindy, and Christy was waiting in the car with Cindy’s sweet baby Ryder. (Confession: at the start of the sales summit, I could NOT tell the twins apart, but now I can vey easily!)

We started heading to the airport just a few blocks away to pick up two of the other girls. As we are driving and they are pointing out the water and the boats, etc. One of the girls goes “is that Meb?” I stated looking and thought “certainly they don’t mean THE Meb…not Meb Keflezighi…..who WON the San Diego Rock in Roll just 24 hours ago? oh, yeah, it is, just going for a shake out run, ho hum. HOW COOL! I was psyched and I had been in San Diego all of 20 minutes!!!

We picked up Larissa and Paige, and headed to our hotel. Our 4th member of our gang was flying in that afternoon, so we were instructed to get some lunch by the pool and relax until then. We had NO idea where we were going to be staying, and honestly I had not thought much about it. Well, we pull up to the La Costa resort and spa…HOLY COW! They were totally spoiling us!

We checked in and walked to our room. Aw, sisterly love.

In case you are blind and can’t tell from the above picture…this place is GORGEOUS. mountains all around, flowers everywhere, it was amazing. The surprises kept on coming. We get to our building and put the key in to two large double doors, not the single kind like a regular room. It opens into this:

with a balcony that overlooks this

and then there were two rooms, one off each side of the living area, so it was two girls to a room. This was me and Paige’s room. I was stoked to have my own bed and no cover hog-Bobby around for a couple nights.

The twins left to go get things ready to come back for our first meeting that would be held in our suite, and so the three of us headed to find food and the pool.

it’s hard to tell, but in the above picture, that wall of greenish stones is like a waterfall, so peaceful.

We sat in the sun at the little restaurant area, and I got a turkey burger

it wasn’t bad! We ate and talked and soaked up some sun, and then Juli, the 4th and final sales rep got to the hotel, and we headed back for some learning and fun!

We went through some training and learning time, and then we all got dressed in matching skirts and headed to the store. I was SO excited to see the store after seeing so many pictures of it online!

they had wine and cheese for us at the store, and all the other ladies were wearing pink, too!

We went around and did introductions, and Joe Taricani was there and he hung out with us for the evening, and even recorded part of his show there, and we were in it! We went out fron to take some group shots in front of the store. The first one is my fav!

then we had a little fun out back with some expo equipment…but I won’t get into that lol! Let’s just say I may or may not have thought about getting a tetanus shot after hanging that sign on barbed wire!

After that, we all went to this great place to eat called Rimel’s. We had such a great time, everyone was so sweet and easy to get along with.

I had some chicken tacos

cell phone pic with a flash…sorry!

I was so exhausted by time we left, I think we all were! We all went to sleep as soon as we got back to our lovely hotel. It was a great day, and I knew the next day was going to be even more fun. I was just so sad it was going by so fast!

In the next running skirts post…our group run, and the spa!

The most beautiful hotel I’ve ever stayed at – well it’s a toss up…The Grand Floridian and the Fairmont in New Orleans (I happened to be there right before Christmas one year).

Looks like fun! Too funny about not being able to tell the twins apart…I actually have debated back and forth over the years whether or not they were identical twins because I didn’t think they looked exactly alike! Hey, someone in one of those pics is wearing a haute pink strappy tank…I’m obsessed with that one, you know, and I hope they bring it back! Fingers crossed! LOL The half zip is cute on you…I may need to try one of those too.

Your suite is gorgeous. I don’t know what is the most beautiful hotel I’ve stayed at. I really like the Wynn in Las Vegas. Especially the suites. I think any high-end hotel is awesome, though, because you really feel like you are being pampered. In high school we stayed at the Four Seasons in Newport Beach for a conference…that was really nice too! Of course that was…er…maybe 20 years ago…o_O
For our wedding, we had a suite at the Grand Californian, which I loved, too! The newly renovated rooms at the DLH are sooooooo nice, too!

I agree. I love feeling pampered, probably why we love the GF concierge so much haha!

You’re the second person I know to spot Meb on a shake out run in the last month. My friend Richie ran the Bay to Breakers 12K in San Francisco and was himself on a shakeout run the day after the race when he and a friend spotted Meb. They yelled over to him and he gave them a wave. They debated catching up to him, but decided not to since Meb’s shake out pace is sub 6 min/mile.

thats awesome! I was in total awe. He was going SO fast, way faster than I can even sprint! I was thinking…um…shake out, what?!?

Wow Heather – so exciting! Can’t wait to hear more!

The nicest hotels I have stayed (I have 2 because I can’t narrow them down…love them both for different reasons) includes the Del Coronado in San Diego (which, as you know, is the Hotel on which the GF was inspired) for its location, charm, beauty and old hollywood vibes, and the London West Hollywood in LA. So glam and chic!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
