State Fair and Funnel Cakes

October 14, 2010 | Uncategorized

I am not sure if it is just MY state fair..or all state fairs…but, I feel like I need to take several showers now to be clean. Anyone with me? We decided to go because if you go on a weekday between 11-1 it’s free to get in and free parking. So, why not. We went to walk around and get something to eat. We didn’t go last year and since we are moving I figured this would be the last time we got to go.

Got my boots on ready to go to the fair!

We got there just before 1:00 so it was pretty deserted. Rides opened at 2:00 and it filled up pretty fast.

After walking up and down the street we decided to get some lunch. Fair food scares me for the most part though! We found a local place that had a stand there with an area to sit down if you bought some of their food. My feet were killing me in my boots so I was happy when Bobby said he wanted to eat here. He got a catfish basket and I got a slice of pizza from a stand thinking..it’s pizza..how can they mess it up? OH MY GOSH it was SO GROSS! Bobby even tried it and said it was disgusting. I was mad because it was $3.50 for a gross slice of pizza!!! I just decided to eat some of Bobby’s fries and save room for a dessert.

After we ate, we did my favorite thing, we went and looked at the animals there for all the livestock competitions etc. A couple years ago we saw a baby calf RIGHT after it was born and watched it take it’s first steps. It was so neat!

Why, hello there!

Eat more chicken

DSC_0573

This was SO FUNNY.  It was a duck pond someone built. They climb the ramp and at the top see the blue part? it’s like a slide. They slide down and free fall into the water. It was so cute to watch!

DSC_0574

After we had our fill of cow manure smell, we decided to get some dessert and go home. I played it safe, opting for Bop’s frozen custard with oreos mixed it. No random fair dessert for me. I know Bops!

DSC_0576

Bobby, of course, had to get a funnel cake. With Bavarian cream. I had one bite and that was enough for me.

Bobby proceeded to eat almost the WHOLE THING by himself before he started feeling gross and threw it away.

DSC_0577

We found a bench to sit on while we ate and I took a couple pictures. This ride was crazy. not only did it fling you back and forth but you spun round and round as you were flung back and forth!

This ride is called Freak Out for a reason!

DSC_0579

It started getting hot and I was definitely ready to go! We saw quite a few strange characters at the fair…I am not sure I would go after dark!

Now I feel tired and gross from the bad food and want to take a nap but need to do laundry.  Meanwhile, Bobby feels SO sick to his stomach he had to lay down!!! That’s what we get I guess!

TOMORROW is running skirt compression sock review! So make sure you come back to see me rockin’ my socks!

QOTD: What is your favorite food to get at the fair?

I’ve never been to a state fair, but that definitely resembles some of NJ’s boardwalks. I’ve also never had a funnel cake. I’m so weird.

Bobby LOVES funnel cakes. I can take them or leave them. IMO, you aren’t missing much!

Looks like you guys had fun. We are taking the kiddos this Sunday. I have vowed not to have anything deep fried and covered in greese. Let’s see how I do!?!?! Cute boots by the way!

There is something about the fair that brings the odd ones out, but I wouldn’t miss it for anything. =)

We always go to the fair with five missions: eat roasted corn on the cob, roasted turkey leg, fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade, see the animals and watch the draft pull. We have our favorite places to get those items and I avoid all others.

my husband usually gets the turkey leg but opeted out this time! We did see a lot of ppl with the roasted corn, though!

I’ve never had a funnel cake, but I’ve gotten sick off a doughboy – the funnel cake’s flatter cousin! Always interesting sights at a fair! It did look like a gorgeous sunny day, though. 🙂

I’m excited to hear about the socks. I wear compression sleeves, but I’ve heard the socks are a better option, so I’m thinking it’s time to switch.

I’ve never been to a state fair, but NYC has a lot of street fairs in the summer. When that happens, I live for funnel cakes! Even while in Disney World, I run to the funnel cake stands and eat until I feel gross. You would think I would learn, but I don’t!

haha my husband told me he has had enough funnel cake for awhile and I said “ok I will remind you of that in like a week when you want one!’

I just fear eating some of it…some of the people who make and sell it look pretty rough. I mean, is it really food? lol!

Ugh, state fairs. I grew up in New Hampshire, in the town where they have the annual state fair. I swear, when the fair rolled in to town, everything stunk for a full week even after it left! Haha. Yours looks much nicer than ours was though!

Those baby animal photos are adorable. The only part about fairs that really freaks me out is all the rides. I used to go on them with my friends in high school. Now I realize that those rides fold up and go on highways and whatnot—too scary for me!

Now I want a big bite of fried dough 🙂

I KNOW! I mean the little innocent kid ones that stay on the ground are fine…but not the coasters and things like that…if it can be built in a day, I am NOT getting on it!

I do kind of get that dirty feeling after the fair too. Mostly my hands though from touching rides. Hand sanitizer is a best friend. LOL

And we always do the funnel cake – but share it and keep it simple with no toppings. Otherwise WAY too rich.

luckily they had hand sanitizing stations this year so that was nice!

2016 was a VERY big year for us. Moving states. Running multiple businesses. Being accused of getting a divorce. 🤣🫣 People are wild, yall.

Looking back they were some hard, wild times and I now know more hard times were ahead for us, but I wouldn’t change any of it. I know it’s part of our story, God had a plan, and there is a reason for it all. Just gotta keep keeping on! ❤️
