Strike a Pose

February 2, 2011 | Uncategorized

Good morning friends! We finally got some of that cold weather you northerners are getting (minus the snow! Yeah…sorry about that by the way.) I find it funny that during the biggest snowstorm ever, a groundhog has the nerve to say we are going to have an early spring. HA!

Today is kind of a different day for me than the “normal” one I blogged about yesterday. Today, a photographer is coming to do a mini photo shoot of me for a New Orleans fitness magazine!!! I am so stoked! Ok, so here’s the scoop. New Orleans just put out a magazine (The January issue) of Fit magazine in the newspaper. I saw it, loved it, had some chats with the editor, and before I knew it I was doing a phone interview to be a fitness role model for the magazine! I told him my story about running my first marathon, and how I used to be a sprinter, and how I use my blog to encourage others to lead a healthy lifestyle. So, today, a photographer from the paper is coming to take pictures of me (portraits) and ones of me running…..yikes! I look like a spastic ostrich when I run, so this will be very. very interesting! Not to mention the fact that its FREEZING outside and I have to run around in my running gear. No matter, I am really excited about this and hope it opens up more opportunities for me to do other things.

I don’t know when the issue comes out, but I think there is a possibility I may be on the cover! I just got off the phone with the photographer, and they are wanting a cover shot. EEEKK! I think I am going to go practice running, I know that sounds so silly. Here are some examples of me looking like a spaz running in case you don’t believe me!

exhibit A (growl like a monster?)

exhibit B (randomly waving at spectators)

exhibit C (double thumbs up…why?)

So, there you have it. This. will. be. interesting!

QOTD: What do YOU look like when you run?

Wow!! That’s awesome you get to be featured in a magazine. I would be uncontrollably happy!!! I will never be in a magazine cause when I run, most of the time it doesn’t look pretty. My race pic always turn out horrible. But that just means I’m giving it my all.

If I see the photographer on a race, I can usually pull off a cute, smiling photo. But when I don’t see them there are lots of ugly double chin ones.

We take her on these trips and cruises hoping she’ll soak in the adventure, the beauty, and maybe even the food from places different from where we live… but to her, nothing beats a corn dog and mac & cheese. 🧀

And honestly, that’s the best reminder for us, that joy doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be yours. 🛳✨

YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the YES I was dancing, eating mac and cheese from the kids menu, and singing “Let it Go” with a butter knife while wearing Mickey ears on our Disney cruise. 🚢

When I was 12, I was worried a lot… worried about failing, scared of what people would think of me, and of not fitting in or being “cool”.
I turned 40 this year and have been spending time trying to figure out exactly who I really am with all expectations stripped away. I don’t love the term “finding yourself”, but here I feel like it fits. ✨

Maybe finding yourself means going back to being 12.… and being myself without being scared. Heather at 12 would never believe this version of me… but I think she’d be proud. 💛✨

Emma Kate turned 11 last month during our sailing and we did so many birthday things! She got a ton of “happy birthday’s” from crew and guests to make it extra special. ✨

This is 11. ✨🎉 Not sure how this happened, b This is 11. ✨🎉

Not sure how this happened, but time snuck up on me and now I have an 11 year old. 🥹
We couldn’t think of a more fun place to celebrate that on Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas.

She started the day with presents, then hours and hours in the sun on the island, followed by cake and singing at dinner, the tween club, and fireworks at sea! (They were for pirate night but we said they were birthday fireworks!)

Happy birthday to the most fierce, kind, competitive, loyal, funny, and beautiful little girl I know. 🩷 Never change who you are and stop growing up so fast! So. Blessed to have the best title there is, Emma Kate’s mom. 💖
