The One Where We Got Rear Ended

April 16, 2012 | fitness, running, Uncategorized

Bobby and I had quite the interesting weekend. I am way to tired to blog about the race today, but I will try to have my recap up by tomorrow. But first, we need to back up to Saturday where the “fun” began.

We decided to leave for Pensacola around 12:00 on Saturday. We had a few errands to run along the way, and then had to go to packet pickup and check in at our hotel. Bobby’s driving makes me so nervous, so I volunteered myself to make the two hour drive.

Things were going fine, and we got off the interstate on the other side of Mobile to run a couple of errands. I was yielding waiting to merge onto a highway, when all of the sudden, WHAM, we were hit from behind.  You have GOT to be kidding me! In a different state, trying to make it to packet pickup before they closed, MY POOR CAR! Not going to lie, when I got out and saw the damage, my first instinct was to FLIP OUT. My car is not even two years old, and I know even if you get it fixed it is never quite the same. (I was rear ended in high school and my poor car was never the same.) But Bobby was nice and calm and that helped me to not bite the poor girl’s head off.

So now we have the lovely task of being one car down while we get it fixed. Oh the joys.

It was a college girl who hit me. She said she was up all night studying. Um…ok…you really shouldn’t be telling me that. If your insurance company found out you admitted to that they wouldn’t be happy. We called the cops, and he took FOREVER to get there, so I called Katie to tell her we may not make it to packet pickup.  Bobby being the calm person that he is handled everything. We got it all taken care of and were on our way again. We made it to packet pickup on time and I got to see this pretty face!

We got our shirts and packets, then headed to our hotel to check in. We found a brick oven pizza place for dinner that was pretty good. After a stressful day, it was nice to just relax and unwind.

We got some frozen yogurt, and then made it back to the hotel for some vegging out before bed. We managed to actually go to sleep early, we had to be up at 5:00 for our half marathon!

QOTD: Have you ever been the recipient of a rear-ending?

I’m so glad you both are okay! I got rear ended in high school – so scary! I drove an (old) SUV and the entire back glass window shattered everywhere – I think that’s what scared me the most!

At least you were ok. That’s always the most important thing. We were rear-ended several months ago. Kind of scary b/c we were waiting to let people get through a crosswalk and the guy just slamed into us – could have ended up hurting the pedestrians.

Yargh! First off, so glad you’re ok!! Although I’ve never been rear ended, we’ve been victim to a hit and run. So not cool. Hoping your car is a speedy fix.

Ugh, that is the worst. I never drive because I live so close to public transportation but when I have to something always goes wrong. When my bf’s car was in the shop, I took him to pick it up and someone pulled out of a gas station without looking and drove right into the back seat of my car! I was so flipping mad. The worst is that he had the same excuse as your girl – Oh I’m so tired I wasn’t looking. If you’re that tired, don’t drive!
    Glad you’re ok Heather!

I haven’t been rear ended or in any accidents worse than a paint scrape, but I can see where you were jittery after that! Looks like a decent amount of damage. Glad you got to the packet pick up in time and hopefully you can get the car fixed soon!

one of which took off and left the scene
and I drive solo so there’s nobody to keep me calm! LOL
last time my car got hit was last Oct. as I was getting ready to fly out to PA to hospital since brother wrecked motorcycle & the lady who hit me wouldnt get outta her car she was so afraid and instead of a cop coming, they sent a public service aid who also was afraid of me and then had real cop show up! lol
it bites getting your car ‘hurt’
    🙁

Yikes! I’m glad you guys were okay and the damage wasn’t worse, though! I have definitely been rear-ended… twice. Once in college when I had come to a complete stop and the guy behind me assumed I would roll through it (it was a stop sign on campus that most people used more as a caution sign). There was like a tiny scratch with that, no biggie. He apologized profusely, though. And the second time was at an intersection when I stopped for a red light and the guy behind me thought I was going to run through it (it’s kind of the norm here, sadly, to run the red light if it is JUST turning red as you arrive). Well he had intended to run it as well which meant he slammed into the back of my car and shoved me into the middle of the intersection. The most terrifying moment I’ve ever had behind the wheel of a car. Thankfully none of the oncoming traffic hit me. Now everytime I am pulling up to a red light I check my review mirror to make sure no one is assuming that I’m about to run it, haha!

I got rear-ended by an older gentleman in a parking lot (he had been backing out of a spot at the same time). No big deal – my bumper looked a lot like yours and my new car was 1 year old. I started to flip out, but the man (with wide eyes) said “I was so afraid I had hit someone” Kinda made me laugh at myself for being upset about a stupid bumper.

OH NO! Your poor car! You two were okay though right? No jolting or seatbelt rash or sore neck? I hope you guys are okay! It sucks to deal with all that stuff now – the insurance and getting your car fixed etc. etc. etc.

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
