Yardwork Deserves Cobbler

August 29, 2011 | Uncategorized

Another Weekend has come and gone. I am sad, but at the same time, excited because some fun things are going on soon at RWS! First of all, soon, I will be hosting ANOTHER raffle for TNT and the Leukemia and Lymphoma society!!! I am working on an all-star lineup of prizes, so stay tuned!

Next, I will be going out of town in the middle of September, and I need YOUR help! I plan to pre-write a few posts for you for while I am gone, but also would love to feature YOU on RWS! Here on the blog, I am all about inspiration, hope, and determination. If you have a story to share, I would love to hear from you! How have you overcome adversity as it deals with health/eating/fitness? Send inquiries to runningwithsass@gmail.com about being featured here in September!

Ok, so yesterday after church, Bobby and I headed to Lowe’s to get some things to spruce up the yard. At our old house, we had mulch in our rose garden and not only did the red contrast amazingly well with the green plants, but it really kept weeds away well and stayed a lot longer than pine straw. After pulling a million weeds, we realized we needed more pine straw….but then decided to use mulch, and get some black garden edger stuff to hold the mulch in place.

Before

After (sort of) we kinda grossly underestimated how much mulch we would need…yeah…

But doesn’t it already look so good? I love that Bella looks like she is smiling in this picture! She was busy tormenting tree frogs.

After finishing back there, we added more pine straw to the front (we spent an hour pulling weeds yesterday after our 10-miler.) So the yard is looking good for fall! While waiting to cool down, I decided to make a blueberry cobbler. We have a ton of blueberries and I didn’t want them to go bad, so cobbler it is! I used the same recipe that is on my recipe page for blackberry cobbler, just substituted blueberries!

Paired with ice cream, well deserved after an afternoon of yard work!

QOTD: Do you reward yourself after a day of hard work?

The yard looks great! And any baked good with blueberries is my favorite 🙂 Blueberries were on sale this week so I have a ton to eat before heading out of town this weekend, so maybe I’ll try your recipe.

Your yard looks great! It kind of makes me wish I had a yard to do something with…even though I have no green thumb and really dislike doing any kind of yard work haha.

I’m always up for rewarding myself! It’s the best way to get through something challenging. Or, you know, a fun way to come up with an excuse for why you need a reward lol. Today I let myself have some chocolate covered blueberries because I spent a couple of hours preparing lectures for the class I TA. Not exactly something I needed rewarding for, but I’ll still take them none the less!

    Great job on the yard!

Definitely rewards are in order after a hard day of work! And yum!! The blueberry cobbler looks delicious!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
