Thanksgiving 2016

Hola friends! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family. Mine was a little odd compared to previous years, but I am glad I got to spend it with my family. Bobby and I were at my parents from Wednesday until Sunday. My sister even flew into town for a couple of days. Here is a quick recap of what we did.

Wednesday, we closed on our house in Mississippi. It was bittersweet, and the first rain we have had in weeks, so it was fitting for my mood.

We drove to my parents house in Louisiana, and settled in for a few days of hanging out with family. Thursday included a lot of cooking, parade and football watching, and eating.

After a delicious meal, we all took naps (as you should on Thanksgiving!) and then I went for a quick 3 mile run.

After some photos, we went to visit some sweet friends that we are going to miss so much!

On Friday, my mom sister and I went shopping and to lunch. Then Friday afternoon was spent watching all the Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond Thanksgiving episodes. Best shoes ever! We ate pizza and watched more football that night, after my dad brought my sister to the airport.

On Saturday, my dad and I took Emma Kate to the playground.

My dad and I also ran a few errands, and then we just kind of chilled the rest of Saturday…and watched more football…and ate more food. On Sunday, my parents went to church while we loaded up the car and said our goodbyes after lunch. It was sad, but my family is coming to Tampa for Christmas so that will be fun!

It was nice to have a few days to rest and recharge before the moving in madness begins this week!

Thanksgiving 2015

Has everyone come out of their turkey comas yet? On Sunday night as Bobby was eating more leftovers, I told him I just couldn’t do it, and I had waffles for dinner instead. We did have a great few days though, and three different Thanksgivings!

Thursday morning we anxiously awaited the arrival of my parents and my sister.

Emma Kate was one happy little pigtail-ed girl when they finally got to the house!

We cooked and played

Emma Kate was being a serious show off with everyone paying her so much attention. She kept running for toy to toy making sure everyone was watching her.

We of course watched the parade.

Lunch was great, and I was pretty proud of three new recipes I used, and also of my table setting I created. Also, I fail at blogging and have no food pictures! Bobby informed me he posted one on Instagram which made me laugh because he hasn’t used Instagram in months, but apparently the food was deserving of a post.

After lunch, we had a pretty serious game of cornhole going. I mean, just look at the concentration in my moms eyes.

My dad was pretty good at it, much to Bobby’s dismay.

Emma Kate loved chasing the bean bags and picking them up and running back and forth.

Everyone napped except for me, and we watched football all afternoon and capped off the night watching a couple of FRIENDS Thanksgiving episodes, which are the best. Friday morning, my mom, dad, sister and I hit up our local outdoor mall. Dad and I ended up just wandering around and sitting on benches while my mom and sister shopped, but it was a pretty day so we didn’t mind.

Friday at lunch we all headed to Bobby’s cousins house for another Thanksgiving lunch. More turkey was consumed.

Unfortunately, after lunch my family packed up and headed home. Bobby and I spent the rest of Friday and Saturday just hanging out with Emma Kate, eating leftovers, and watching college football. Oh, and playing baseball with a pumpkin and a machete. What? You don’t do this? I think I got a couple of pretty good action shots.

Saturday night we had a Friendsgiving with a bunch of friends from our lifegroup at church. More turkey was consumed, and more football was watched.

Sunday was church and more football (I am detecting a pattern here) and sadly our holiday weekend came to an end. I hope you had a great one like I did and got to hang out with friends and family! Happy Thanksgiving!

5 Things I am Thankful For

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I hope you all have the opportunity to spend some time with the people that you love. I am hosting again this year and my parents and sister are coming into town. I won’t be posting tomorrow or Friday, because I want to spend time with my family (and so should you! Go talk to someone’s face tomorrow.)

In the spirit of the holiday, I thought it would be appropriate to get all sappy and tell you all what I am thankful for this year. I have a LOT to be thankful for, but just narrowed it down to 5 big ones for the purpose of this post.

1. My family: My family is awesome, and have been there through thick and then. They have taught me so much, helped me when I needed it, stood up for me, given me advice, and so many countless other things. I am so glad I get to see several family members tomorrow, and I hope to teach Emma Kate the importance of family.

DSC_0673

2. My health: I truly do not take this one for granted. I am so thankful that I can get out of bed every morning, pick up my daughter, go for a run, lift weights, work, and take care of the people I love. This is such a huge blessing that many would love to have but don’t, so I try very hard to appreciate it.

castle

3. Laughter: Laughter truly is the best medicine! I got to laugh with my family this past weekend and it was so good for my soul. I love hearing Emma Kate laugh, and always want my house to be filled with laughter.

090

4. My friends: My friends are spread out all over the country (and even the world!) but they are all special to me, even the ones I don’t get to see near often enough. From having a big group of online friends I get to virtually hang out with, to having a small group girls Bible study to talk about the heavy stuff, it’s all important and I am blessed.

DSC_0910

5. My relationship with God: This one trumps all. As we move into the Christmas season and see that a small baby changed everything, it is so vital to remember God in the big and small daily things. Everything good I have comes from Him, and I am SO thankful He has blessed me with this life I live.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

QOTD: What are you thankful for?

Pre-Thanksgiving Weekend

Baby it’s cold outside! We had our first freeze last night, and it dipped into the 20’s (for you northern folk that’s a big deal for Mississippi, yall!) Anyway, we had a good weekend but now it’s time to get ready for turkey day! We will be hosting at my house, and judging by the current state of my house, it is NOT ready for company!

12fc9d2a-cb1e-4867-801a-b74bec2ec9f0

(Speaking of turkey, how adorable is EK’s art project?!?)

But first, the weekend. We drove to Louisiana to visit my parents. I had kind of an overwhelming week and really needed some quality time with family plus some help with the wee one. We haven’t taken her to my parents since before we bought Orange Leaf back in August, so we were well overdo for a visit!

Friday I hung out with Emma Kate and packed up for the trip while Bobby went to work.

It was a chilly morning but we went for a walk and played in the driveway.

cc1d7f96-d265-46b2-8995-3edb1cdfce80

Friday afternoon we drove down to the parental units’ house, and Emma Kate was excited to explore their big house now that she can walk. She also enjoyed her new little table at their house.

9907ef96-0128-4b08-b83f-5ae0fa2706ea

Saturday morning I went for a 3.1 mile run, and it went really well, which I was totally not expecting! Aren’t those the best?

a90cc6b8-bb52-479c-9798-c6929cc6c169

We just hung out around the house Saturday which I REALLY needed. Mom, dad and I ventured out to Wal-Mart to get Emma Kate some Christmas toys (I know, on a Saturday, are we nuts?!?) but otherwise we stayed at the house.

a91a3a2c-7ab0-41a1-9dad-2b39292da907

Fun fact: my mom has been playing the piano most of her life.

My dad grilled, and we ended up watching Jurassic World that evening. Thoughts on that movie? It had some good parts, but the cheesy parts were a bit more than I could handle. I mean, of course everyone knows you light a flare and walk up to a T-Rex then let it chase you in heels, right?

Sunday morning was more hanging out, and more grilling. it turned cold, but that didn’t stop us of course!

be0f38be-9400-47af-b07f-a4149e4689e3

Emma Kate loved running through the house pulling things out of cabinets and shutting herself in rooms (her new favorite thing…until she gets mad because she can’t open the door.) The Saints had a bye this week so when it was the little one’s nap time we loaded up and hit the road back home. It’s good to be back, but always sad when a fun weekend has to come to an end. Luckily, I get to see family in just a few days!

QOTD: Thoughts on Jurassic World? What did you do this weekend? Anyone play the piano? I took lessons for a year and hated it. Sad times.

Thanksgiving 2013

Happy black Friday! No shopping for us today, we are driving about three hours north to visit with Bobby’s family today. We had a great day yesterday with my parents and are a ton of food, and more of the same today!

I hope you all had a great day with family and friends and continue to enjoy the weekend. Here are a few pictures from our day.

Gratitude

I really struggle sometimes with looking at the negative in life and forgetting about all the positives. Isn’t that human nature though? Wishing for things we want to change or don’t have but forgetting all the every day blessings? I wanted to take some time out to talk about gratitude, and hopefully it is a good reminder to us all to focus on all the GOOD things we have in life, and how fortunate we really are.

Life-Is-Full-Of-Give-Take-Free-Gratitude-Printables-from-FrugalBeautiful.com_

I am participating in a week of gratitude with some lovely bloggers, and we all agreed to write a post about it.

I have an amazing family, a warm home to sleep in, a working vehicle, a job, I’m healthy (minus some running injuries haha) and I am saved by grace.

With Black Friday coming up in a couple of days, it’s easy to focus on our wish lists as well as the stress of all the things we have to buy for other people. It saddens me that stores are now opening up SO early on Thanksgiving Day. Isn’t this a day to spend time with family and give THANKS, not rush to the nearest store to buy more junk for our families that we really don’t even need?

I want to encourage you all to do something in the next few days, before the weekend is over. I’m not saying boycott shopping and I’m not saying gifts are bad, but it is about where your heart is and your true focus. I want everyone to take some time, even if it’s just a minute or two, to think of a way you can show how truly grateful you are for something or someone in your life. I think it may help us to refocus and re-center ourselves before the Christmas crazies set in. Here are some ideas:

-Write a hand written card or note to someone you care about thanking them for who they are or something they do for you. Leave it in their car, briefcase, on their laptop, etc.

-Go outside and play with your kids or our pets. Don’t just watch THEM play, get involved and cherish the time.

-Sacrifice something. Instead of buying coffee AND a bagel for yourself, buy a cup of coffee for the person in line behind you. Tip extra at a restaurant and write a note on the receipt telling the server you appreciate their hard work.

-Reflect. Spend some time in the quiet with no TV, computer, or cell phone and look back on all the good things that have happened to you and your family this year. Write them down and keep the list on the refrigerator as a constant reminder of how blessed you are. Don’t let any negative thoughts creep in your mind about things that went wrong this year.

-At Thanksgiving, have everyone go around the table and say something they are grateful for. Someone may say something that encourages or surprises you, and you may bless someone else with something you say.

I won’t be posting tomorrow, I will be with my family and I hope you will be off the computer and spending time with yours. I love y’all and am grateful for YOU and the encouragement and support you give me from miles away. Y’all are the best. Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving In Pictures 2012

Happy Saturday! Today Bobby and I are headed out on a long run, hopefully 14-15 miles, and then hopefully decorating our Christmas tree! My camera cord is still at home but I wanted to share some phone photos I took on Thanksgiving day.

We drove to my parents Thursday morning and then my cousin and her family arrived for lunch!

photo (45)

photo (46)

We ate a great spread prepared by mom and dad, and enjoyed some awesome desserts as well (hello pumpkin pie!)

photo (44)

Bella was very aware of the turkey carving going on and stayed close to my dad as he got the bird ready. She was being so funny, growling and barking at him to get some scraps (which she of course did get).

photo (43)

Bobby and I took some Christmas card photos outside and I tried to take a photo of the picture on my camera to show you one but they are coming out blurry.

I will post some “real” ones later on, so sorry.

Then later in the evening my aunt and her boyfriend came over to hang out and watch football….and we ate some more. Friday morning mom and I went shopping and got a lot done/gifts bought, and we brought pizza back to the house which we ate while watching LSU beat Arkansas! I would say we have had a great weekend so far and it’s only halfway over! Hope you are all enjoying your holiday weekend, see you tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving 2012

Happy Thanksgiving! I will be spending the day with my family today and hope you are doing the same, so there won’t be a “real” blog post today. These moments with family are precious and important to me, I’m sure you understand. See you all tomorrow, and don’t forget we all have SO much to be thankful for today.

Now, go eat some turkey! Gobble gobble!

Black Friday Madness

Happy Holiday weekend! Who is still eating leftovers from Thursday? Last night we ate our fourth meal off of our Thanksgiving spread from lunch. It’s so nice not having to cook! It has been a great weekend so far, I am really enjoying having Bobby home for a couple extra days.

Yesterday morning we went to bed at 3:00 after black Friday shopping. Oh yes you read that right. While some were waking up for shopping, we were just going to bed! All day Thursday I tried to take a nap because I knew I would be out late but no dice. We left about 10:00 and headed to the local outlet mall, but first we drove by Best Buy which was not opening for two more hours. I know these pictures are blurry, but you get the idea. The line wrapped almost ALL THE WAY AROUND THE BUILDING!

DSC00171

DSC00172

DSC00173

We of course did not stand in line. That was one of the great things about our shopping trip, there was nothing we just HAD to have so it wasn’t stressful. Ok so back to the outlet mall. Half the stores opened at 10:00 and the other half at 11:00, and I was NOT anticipating the masses of people that we encountered. The line of cars trying to pull into the parking lot was quite indicative of how the stores were.

We first hit up J Crew and the line was wrapped halfway around the store. Bobby got some boxers and went ahead and got in line while I finished shopping. Then I handed him my clothes and headed to the next store to start shopping and trying on, and then he met me there. It worked out really well for us and he was so sweet to stand in line for me.

After J Crew I headed to Ann Taylor and then we went to Banana Republic which didn’t open until 11, so we had to wait in line outside.

2011-11-24225658

It opened about five minutes later, and we shopped and then I headed to Gap while Bobby stood in line again. I found a really cute shirt I liked and saw the line had about 40 people in it. I immediately put the shirt back. Saving 25% on one shirt is not enticing enough to make me stand in line for 30 minutes!

We headed to the food court and got a snack and rested for a few minutes. We soon had to shop more because I was getting very sleepy just sitting. (Remember, we got up at 6 that morning and ran a 5k turkey trot!) We walked around a couple more stores but the lines were just getting longer and longer so we decided to leave. Bobby wanted to go to the other Best Buy (there are two close to our house) so I agreed because I was curious to see just how crazy it was.

The parking lot was crazy (shared with other stored like Target, Dick’s, Kohls, etc.) and there was still a short line outside. We only had to wait about five minutes, and it made me think about the TV shows you see where people are waiting outside of a club to go inside, ha. Anyway, we finally got inside and it was very crowded. The line to check out wrapped around half the store then looped back again. They had aisles blocked off by TV boxes to create makeshift lines.

Bobby, started talking to an employee about picking up an item he had bought and paid for online. (Apparently when he bought it the site told him he could pick it up in store.) So then I find out this is my main Christmas gift, and so I was going to get it now instead of Christmas morning because logistically it just wouldn’t work out any other way. Ok, I didn’t really understand, but I went with it. We were given a pick up slip and told to drive around the back to get the item. We were SO happy we didn’t have to wait in the two hour line to pick it up!

So the item gets put in the back of the vehicle, and then Bobby tells me I can turn around and look.

2011-11-25110951

Wwhhhaaaa? a 60” smart tv?! Crazy! Apparently he got it for 50% off. We had been talking about getting another TV because the one in the bedroom is an old box TV I had when I graduated high school. So we put the flat screen from the bonus room in the bedroom and the new one in the bonus room. So, I got my gift early, and we got it all set up yesterday before the LSU game.

2011-11-25133705

Do I have the best husband or what? I can’t believe he was able to get it for 50% off. What a great deal! Ok so let me back track a little. So we get home with the TV and have to get it out of the car and up the staircase that has two turns in it. That box was so heavy (one of the reasons he had to tell me about it, so I could help him get it inside.) As we were trying to drag the thing up the stairs, I kept yelling “PIVOT! PIVOT!” from the Friends episode where Ross and Rachel are trying to get the couch upstairs. It was a riot, so funny, and at 2:30 in the morning everything is funny.

DSC_0925

So we finally fell asleep at three and I was so hoping to sleep in, but I woke up wide awake at 7:15. After a little over 4 hours of sleep. I decided to get up and go do a little solo shopping. I hit up Kohls and did some Christmas shopping and also got some new boots at Shoe Carnival. The stores were crowded but not as bad as the night before. Luckily there were enough workers at the stores so there was no waiting. I did get annoyed when I saw a woman in Kohl’s with a Target shopping cart. Really? Target is in a building way away in a separate parking lot. Girlfriend really wanted a buggy. (yes, I call it a buggy. No laughing, please.)

I of course watched LSU destroy Arkansas yesterday afternoon, and then Bobby helped me start on the outside Christmas decorations. It got dark so I didn’t get to finish, but plan to this morning. I can’t ait to show yall the decorations they are really looking great. It was a fun, relaxing day with my little family. Later we are driving to Louisiana to see my parents for some more fun!

QOTD: Did you go Black Friday shopping? Any good deals?

My Thanksgiving 2011

Happy Black Friday! We did all of our shopping late last night so we are sleeping in today (I types this post Thursday night.) I hope you ate lots of turkey and made lots of memories with your family and friends. My Thanksgiving was a bit different than years past, but Bobby and I had a fun time making new memories.

We started the day off bright and early with a 6:00 am wake up call for our Turkey Trot. I SERIOUSLY considered turning off the alarm, but I knew the hardest part would be getting out of the bed so I got up anyway and am glad that I did! I will post more about the Turkey Trot in it’s own race recap, but here is a picture from the morning:

DSC00159

We got home about 10:00, and I immediately started getting busy cooking in the kitchen. I had DVRed the parade, so I watched it while I cooked.

DSC_0918

Intently watching the parade.

Since it was just going to be the two of us, we didn’t want to cook a whole turkey, so when we saw Honey Baked Ham had a special little meal you could buy where you could get ham, turkey, and two sides, (they threw in some rolls, too) we jumped on it. All I had to make was twice baked potatoes, green beans, almond iced tea, and a pumpkin pie.

DSC_0920

We still had to cook the sides in the oven along with all the other things I had made, and this was one of those days I wished I had two ovens. It took a lot longer than I anticipated to get everything ready so we were starving by time it was all ready at 1:00.

We sat, we ate, we tried not to go into food comas, so we took the girls on a long walk. It was the most gorgeous day, sunny, about 73 degrees. Perfect. Then it was football, naps, and late night shopping. More on that later, too.

I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving and remembered all the things you have to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving from the Montgomery’s!
