2015 Goal Check In

December 18, 2015 | blogging, family, fitness, motivation, running

I have decided in 2016 that I want to go back to monthly goals. It’s something I did for a long time here on THLG, and I just sort of got away from it with pregnancy + a newborn, and it’s high time to get going again. I really enjoy having mini goals instead of year long goals, although those are fun to look back on as well, just not as easy to keep! I tend to make goals at the beginning of a new year and not look at them again until December. Whoops! So mini goals are good “check ups” to go along with bigger ones.

Last year, I had five “big goals” that I shared on my blog, so I wanted to do a quick checkup on those before diving into 2016 goals next week.

1.) Read my Bible every day: C+ I do a great job of this on the three days Emma Kate goes to daycare, but the other days are so crazy, which is a TERRIBLE excuse. I may need to start switching to night time reading instead of in the morning to ensure this gets done. This is not something I want to just throw my hands up and say “oh well” to doing.

2.) PR in any race distance: A I ran the Los Angeles marathon 5 months after having Emma Kate. While my PR was only by about 15 minutes and I had been training for about a 45 minute PR, I will still take it! (It was around 90 degrees outside and no one was prepared for it, so everyone was super slow!) Heck I am proud of myself for even running that race!

3.) Foam roll and stretch: B+ At the boot camp class I went to 3 x’s a week they really made us warm up well and stretch after, but I don’t stretch well after running on my own.

4.) Find a good work/life balance: B+ When I wrote these goals, Emma Kate was just starting mother’s day out twice a week for five hours a day which did not leave me enough time to do all of my blog work so I was really stressed out. Since then, Emma Kate has been going to a daycare she loves three full days a week so I try to get as much done on those days as I can so we can play the other two days. Not to mention since then we also bought a frozen yogurt shop, but I think we have gotten into a good rhythm as far as a work/life balance with that.

5.) Eat more healthy foods: C+ I really do want to focus more on this one in 2016! When I get really busy I tend to just throw unhealthy/quick things together for meals, or grab Chick-Fil-A on the way home. I need to PLAN better to make this one happen.

Cookies anyone?

Stay tuned next week to see my 2016 goals!

Loved your monthly goals! I laughed because I was reading a post of yours yesterday and literally thought exactly ” hey she hasn’t done monthly goals like before” as I was admiring all the changes you had made and appeared to make to me. It seems like 2015 was a great year, cheers to 2016!

Great job with your goals. I am impressed with finding balance between your work life and home. I can not seem to find the balance

It’s been tough and took a LONG time to achieve, and some days I still don’t have the balance!

I’m proud of myself this year. I decided I needed to lose weight and get healthy. Since January, I have lost 65 pounds and ran two half marathons (PR’ed by 50 minutes). This year I want to maintain the weight and keep being active.

I love that your goals are REALISTIC and not too extreme one way or the other. 🙂 I did that this year as well and it was so much less stressful if I didn’t meet one all the way!

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we h When the Smoky Mountain heat gets unbearable, we head to Pigeon Forge Snow. ❄️ #sponsored

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character e Here is my favorite in park Disneyland character experience: The Plaza Inn character breakfast. Here are a few things to know:

✨ Meet Minnie before you even enter the restaurant and get photos with her + a photopass photographer.
✨ Food is all you can eat. Minnie waffles, bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, and more!
✨ Multiple characters visit your table throughout the meal.
✨ Reservations are a must and can book up quickly!

This was such a fun way to start a park day and meet several characters without spending part of the day waiting in character lines.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.

If you want to try it, there’s $40 off your first month through the link in my bio. @joinmochi #joinmochi mochihealth

Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro took part in Cork to Fork on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and every bite felt like a love letter to local flavor. From bourbon-glazed pork belly to a warm cinnamon-bourbon bread pudding that honestly didn’t stand a chance at our table… this was one of those meals you remember.

Mountain views, chef-driven dishes, and whiskey worked right into the menu in the best way. 😋
