Back in July, Bobby and I had the opportunity to stay at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter for one night before going home after two fun media events. I chose this resort because it is one of only a couple I haven’t stayed in! (I think Old Key West, Beach Club villas, and Animal Kingdom villas may be all I have left!) I decided to just do a quick overview of the resort itself, not necessarily the room, but just kind of a “this is what’s there” post.
So why did I wait so long? Honestly, because I grew up in the New Orleans area. When I wanted to go on vacation, I didn’t want to go somewhere that looked just like back home! However, I am glad we were able to sneak in a night so I could check it out for myself. The decor is very cute and very on point with New Orleans, but in a much cleaner and family-friendly environment (haha).
The lobby was nice and big, and attached was a shop as well as check-in and the quick service restaurant (could also be accessed from the backside/outside of the resort.)
We checked in late in the evening as it was getting dark, so I tried to quickly take photos while I still had light! There were little nods to Mardi Gras everywhere which was cute.
One complaint I did have is that the food court area is SUPER SMALL. We ate there twice, and both times has a really hard time finding a table to sit at. The food court did have some more southern options like beignets and seafood, but when you have had the real thing, it’s hard to compare, but I definitely give them an A for effort in trying to be different.
Our building was the farthest away from the main areas, which was a bit of a hike but not as far as some Disney resorts since this hotel is quite small comparatively. (I believe we were in building seven.) I wanted to see everything though so it was nice to go for a stroll.
We were on the third floor, with an adorable little courtyard in front of our room complete with street lights and NOLA style street signs.
They even had street names put into the road just like the real deal in the french quarter.
Here is a better view of our courtyard from the balcony right outside our room. Our building was very quiet, I don’t remember hearing anyone at all.
I love that they called their campfire a “cajun campfire”, definitely a nice touch.
The buildings were made to look just like ones in the french quarter, and I loved how they embraced the multi-colored and shaped ones, they are my favorite!
It wouldn’t be NOLA without some music and alligators, right? These guys can be found as you head back towards the pool and river.
The tree-lined “streets” you walk on to get places were a nice for shade in the July heat, and I love how much green space there is at this resort. (NOT something you will find in the french quarter!)
If you walk back towards the river, you will find the boat launch to Disney Springs and the feature pool with water slide.
There is also a splash/play area for kids with a couple of cute slides.
We got some great shots early in the morning before the pool even opened. It was so hot out I certainly wanted to take a dip asap! There was also a pool bar right next to the pool and the drink menu looked delicious!
There was also a cute little playground in between the pool area and main lobby/food area. It was pretty basic but still nice to have to get the wiggles out of your kiddos during the day.
One thing I DO love that we missed out on since it was the wrong day of the week is the beignet dash fun run they hold every Sunday! You get a medal and coupon for beignets with your entry fee. How cute! A fun way to stay in shape on vacation and get to see some of the landscaping and beauty of the resort. I hope to do it one day!
Overall Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter is a fun little resort and a great pick if you love going to Disney Springs (we love the boat ride!) It has a mid-level price point, and queen-sized beds, a coffee maker, and mini fridge. You can check out my room tour here if you want to see what those look like!
