Disney Princess Blogger Meet Up Recap

March 9, 2012 | Disney, Travel, Uncategorized

I was nominated for a Fitterati, a blogger award for Fitness magazine, in the running blogs category. I would LOVE if you took a minute and voted for me, would mean so much to me and my blog! VOTE HERE.

I love Disney, I love bloggers, and I love being social, so a few months ago I decided to host a Disney Princess blogger meet up. I conducted a poll on my blog with possible dates/times, made up a schedule and location, and got together some giveaways.

I knew it would be hard for a lot of people to make it. After all, most were in Disney with families and kids, and I knew it would be hard to get away, but I still wanted to try. Let’s just say I am so glad that I did!

these four came after our picture, so I just took a photo of them to add to the post, ha!

Several of the girls who came I have been “online friends” with for a  long time, so I couldn’t wait to meet them. The meet up was on Saturday at 3:00 at the Grand Floridian. I thought this would be a great location because it is on the monorail, and has a great outdoor space for chatting and picture taking.

I hosted some giveaways as well. A huge thanks to my boss and owner of Travel With the Magic, Kelly, who supplied many of the giveaways.

Janet had approached me via e mail before the meet up and asked if she could share her story and do two giveaways for her book. I was thrilled! I loved hearing her amazing and inspiring story. You should go check out her website to see what I am talking about!

We chatted some more, traded business cards so we could all go check out each others blogs later, and of course…took pictures in front of the castle!

We chatted a bit more and wished each other luck in the race.

It was so great to put so many names with faces/blogs/twitter handles. The power of social media is amazing, and I love how warm and welcoming bloggers are. Connecting and networking is great, but making new friends is awesome, too.

Megan compiled a good list of some of the girls that were there, be sure to check out their blogs!

One reason I wanted to discuss this is because another great way to network and make friends is through going to blog conferences. I have only been to one blog conference, but I had an amazing time, and would love to go to another one.

Just my luck, there is one this summer in Colorado called the Fitness and Health Bloggers Conference. I was eyeing this conference last year, but simply couldn’t make it work with my schedule. This year is a different story, and thanks to the amazing generosity of the conference, as well as the amazing companies FitFluential,  and Refuel with Chocolate Milk (who I love, by the way. They had chocolate milk for us at the finish of the Rock n Roll New Orleans half, loved it!), 40 FitFluentials will be given the opportunity to go to this conference via a scholarship.

I would love the opportunity to meet and network with other bloggers, as well as learn. I have by no means arrived and never will, and I am totally one of those nerdy girls who loves to learn! My fingers are crossed for this one!

QOTD: Have you ever been to a blogger conference? If not, what one would you go to if you had the chance?

I’ve never been to a blogger conference because I just do a personal blog, but it sounds like fun and it looks like you guys had a lot of fun at your meetup… honestly I’d love to do some sort of meet up to meet other bloggers, even! Plus you had a really great turn out.

I love your shirt too :).

I came across this awesome Disney Princess app and thought I’d share with all the other Disney Princess fans out there. This app has so many cool features…you can dress up like a Disney Princess and take a picture to share with your friends, decorate your own royal carriage and my favorite part is the royal ball where you actually get to dance! Definitely a must download! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/disney-princess-royal-ball/id562090727?mt=8

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
