Henderson Park Inn

August 2, 2013 | blogging, Travel

Back in July, my husband and I had the privilege to stay at an amazing bed and breakfast in Destin, Florida called Henderson Park Inn.

My parents have raved about this place for years, but we are just getting around to going.

It’s an adults only inn, and includes a gourmet breakfast, boxed lunch’s, cookies and tea in the afternoon, happy hour, and all the candy bars and sodas you can eat and drink.

Bobby and I stayed in an executive suite, and it was beautiful. When we checked in, there was soft music playing in our room and a rose, bottle of wine, and some grapes were on our bed. You also get turn down with chocolates at night!

The suite included a kitchenette fully stocked with plates and utensils as well as a keurig coffee maker. There were also bottles of water already in the refrigerator!

The executive suites have a king sized bed, as well as a flat screen TV and DVD player (there are free movies to borrow as well).

We had a balcony overlooking the ocean with two chairs and a little table outside.

When we checked in, we were shown around the Inn, it felt so personal and cozy to have someone walk us around. They only have 36 rooms by the way, so it never felt crowded. Also included in the price is free beach chairs, towels and umbrellas. Simply walk to the beach and claim a spot. That was definitely one of my favorite things. No fighting with my beach tent or my own chairs and towels.

The inn borders a state park on one side so it’s a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the beach.

From 4-5 every afternoon, there was happy hour out at this tiki hut that overlooks the ocean. They had margaritas, pina coladas, wine, beer, etc. We loved walking up form the beach for a  drink before getting ready for dinner.

There is a restaurant that we ate at one night called the Beach Walk Café. It was amazing and I will be posting about it as well.

photo (4)

During the day, the restaurant is home to the amazing breakfast, and where you pick up your boxed lunches and cookies/tea in the afternoon. Breakfast was by far m favorite. Made to order omelets and waffles, apple wood bacon, grits, the juiciest fruit ever, hashbrowns, sausage, you name it. Awesome.

photo

There are also other opportunities for lounging such as hammocks below the upper deck. The chairs/tables are the outside portion of the restaurant. You can eat meals oceanside!

photo (3)

There were also some cozy chairs surrounding a fire pit that was lit at night.

photo (2)

We will definitely be back here next summer, but that seems so far away. Would love to go back sooner, we had an amazing time and have absolutely no complaints. Such an amazing relaxing retreat. If you have any questions about the inn feel free to ask and I will try my best to get an answer!

That looks like paradise! I’ve never stayed at a bed and breakfast but would definitely like to! When I was in Destin on my mission trip we went to Henderson State Park to go to the beach! It was definitely less crowded and of course gorgeous!

It looks so beautiful there! I love that it’s not really a hotel. Where I grew up, there are no hotels and high-rises on the beach, only houses and bed and breakfasts.

I stayed at a B&B in Maine when I was 12. The owners had a terrier who was so adorable.

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷
