January 2014 Disney Trip: Part 1

February 18, 2014 | blogging, Disney, family, runDisney, running, Travel

Now that I am caught up with my race recaps (whew!) I wanted to share a little about or January trips when we WEREN’T running! Our first day in Disney in January for Dopey, we went to the expo Wednesday then had dinner that night at California grill. I was a good girl and wore flats, but totally forgot I had only brought a dress…and I got taped at the KT Tape booth that afternoon. Whoops! I got some strange looks.

We love the newly remolded California Grill, and got to eat there for the second time since the re-opening.

Bobby was a happy boy with his sushi

We went to bed early, and got up to run the Family Fun Run 5k the next morning. After the race and breakfast, we headed to EPCOT for the morning.

Where I somehow got roped into being part of a “play” in the UK.

We rode Soarin’ and Space Ship Earth, and grabbed some lunch.

We were pretty tired and headed back to the room for a nap. As soon as we got there, I got a call about shooting some video and still shots for an article in the Orlando Sentinel about Dopey, so we grabbed my costumes, hopped back in the car and headed to the Sports Complex…where we filmed in the pouring rain!

We made it back to the hotel just in time to grab drinks from the concierge lounge and change before heading to dinner at Ohana. I had to leave to go meet some friends for drinks, so I left Bobby at dinner (no kidding, and he was fine with it!) I met my friends, and came back and picked Bobby up at the Poly. Don’t feel too bad for him, he had a book and my iPad! It was off to bed after that, we had the 10k to run the next day.

We were up at 2:45 for the 10k, and we came back to the hotel to shower and eat before driving to Hollywood Studios.

Not going to lie, we didn’t last long. With no nap the day before and two early wake up calls, we were spent. We rode a couple rides, grabbed some lunch at Toy Story Pizza Planet, and then went back to the hotel for a glorious nap. That night, we just hung out around the hotel relaxing and enjoying the weather. No dinner plans, just sitting. Aaaahhh

IMG_9906

We also roasted some marsh mellows with the kiddos!

I really love the Wilderness Lodge, it’s such a beautiful and peaceful resort. We found some chairs to sit in and listen to the waterfalls before heading upstairs for some dinner.

Again it was early to bed. We had a half marathon in the morning!

QOTD: When you go to Disney do you ever take time to relax or are you just go go go the whole trip?

*I would LOVE to help plan your family vacation to Disney World, Disneyland, on any cruise line, to Universal, you name it! It costs you nothing extra and I do all the work. heather@travelwiththemagic.com

I am ALL for rest time! I always try to tell people it’s worth it to make the rest of the trip that much more enjoyable but the magic of Disney always lures people in….but I get the “we should’ve listened to you” after 🙂

So fun! I’ve never been to the Wilderness Lodge, but I need to go – those roasted marshmellows look so yummy! We definitely try to relax when we go to Disney, it makes all that walking around much easier lol :0)

People usually say that it doesn’t matter which resort you stay at because all you will do is go there to sleep. I disagree, especially during race weekend. I like to spend a lot of time at the resort relaxing. And during race weekend I hope to do a lot of sleeping! We are staying in the MK area this week so I hope to get over to WL and visit. Where are you staying this weekend?

So much fun! I will admit that I am go, go, go when I am in Disney because I don’t want to miss a thing!!!

If my family’s only at Disney for a couple days, we are go-go-go! Marathon weekend however gave us time to relax, and when two in our party were doing the full, 4 of us went to get pedicures at SS Senses. That was a great way to relax.

How fun! The bf and I are going to Disney in March. I haven’t been since I was a kid and he is going for his first time! It is just a weekend getaway but we can’t wait!

When at Disney I’m go-go-go all the time! Even during Marathon Weekend, we were at the parks each day after the races. While it was exhausting (and I’m still not sure how Preston finished Dopey more upright than I did after doing the 10k and half), we wouldn’t have spent our week at Disney any other way!

We take time to relax in the pool in the evenings, but even that can be chaotic! 🙂

Sounds like fun. I love the WL. We only do the parks in the mornning and evening, and spend each afternoon at the pool at the WL!

Staying in an A-Frame cabin by Zook cabins at Val Staying in an A-Frame cabin by Zook cabins at Valley Bear Farms felt like stepping into a real-life Pinterest board 🤍 (ad)

These architectural gems mix rustic charm with modern design—think soaring wood ceilings, giant picture windows, and a dreamy soaker tub that makes you never want to leave. 😍

We even brought our dogs along (yes, it’s dog-friendly!) and watched deer wander by through the trees. 🐾

Valley Bear Farms is tucked in the mountains of North Carolina, surrounded by peaceful forest views and plenty to explore. The property has hiking trails, a cozy general store, and other on-site amenities that make it feel like a little mountain village all its own. ⛰️

The Cosmo JrTrack 5 Smartwatch has been the perfect in-between for us — she can call and text the people I approve, I can see where she is with GPS, and it has school mode, SOS, activity tracking, and even a little camera she loves.

We got the Holiday Bundle with the screen protector and LaunchPad stand, and it honestly just makes the whole thing easier.

If you want the link, comment “watch” and I’ll have it sent straight to your inbox. 🎄⌚️✨

🎄 POV: Our Weekend Holiday Getaway in Pigeon Forge 🎄 POV: Our Weekend Holiday Getaway in Pigeon Forge
There’s just something about the holidays in the Smoky Mountains — the lights, the laughter, the togetherness — it all feels extra magical. #sponsored

Our first stop was Dolly Parton’s Stampede, the world’s most visited dinner attraction, and it’s easy to see why. The pre-show in the Stampede Saloon had us singing along to country and Christmas classics before we sat down for a four-course feast that could rival any holiday dinner. 🐴

Then the arena came alive with 32 magnificent horses, trick riders, and dancers bringing the spirit of the season to life with a friendly North vs. South Pole rivalry, toys that come alive, and even Santa arriving in a horse-drawn sleigh. Pure holiday joy from start to finish! 🎅🏻

Next up was the Titanic Museum Attraction, beautifully transformed into an Elegant Edwardian Christmas, giving Titanic the Christmas voyage she never got. We each received a boarding pass with the name of a real passenger, explored the Grand Staircase, and even touched the icy 28-degree water. The interactive exhibits made history come alive, and it was such an emotional, unforgettable experience for all of us.

And to end the weekend, we dove into adventure at Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show. Led by Captain Blackbeard himself, the Crimson and Sapphire crews battled for treasure with acrobatics, mermaids, fire stunts, and even a sea lion! Between the four-course pirate feast and the jaw-dropping stunts, it was nonstop fun and the perfect grand finale to our Pigeon Forge weekend. 🏴‍☠️

This trip reminded me that time together really is the best gift. Add Pigeon Forge and these incredible attractions to your holiday must-do list this season. ❤️

Comment “Pigeon Forge” and I’ll send you links to grab your tickets before they sell out!
