runDisney and New Balance: A Match Made in Heaven

February 13, 2013 | Disney, fitness, runDisney, running

It is a pretty well known fact that when runDisney puts it’s logo on merchandise, it’s going to be a big hit with runDisney fans. However, I think even they underestimated just how wildly popular the new collaboration between their brand and New Balance would be. In anticipation for the 2013 Walt Disney World marathon weekend and the Tinkerbell half weekend, New Balance produced 5,000 of their new shoe model, only to have the entire shipment they sent to Disney (they saved some for Tink!) sell out around lunchtime on the first day of the health and fitness expo! They quickly overnighted more pairs to the expo to have available on Friday, and were greeted with a line of eager fans ready to purchase this special product.

Inspired by Minnie Mouse, this is the Women’s version of the running shoe.

When I participated in the WDW marathon weekend meet up, the awesome folks at New Balance did a wonderful presentation talking about their shoe line, and how to know which model is best for you as well as how to avoid injury. It was a very informative session, and I think it was a great idea to bring them in to speak on the heels of such an important weekend for the brand.

Although the original shipment of shoes sold out, never fear, more will be available at the runDisney Fit for a Princess health and fitness expo on February 22nd and 23rd at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. I imagine they will sell out quickly as well, so be sure to arrive early for your chance to own a pair of these limited edition kicks of the New Balance 860 series ($125 + tax). I am hoping to get my hands on a pair as well! What an amazing feat for both companies, and I am sure this will be a beneficial partnership for years to come.

Check out this video below where the creators of this special shoe tell you a little about how they came up with the popular new design.

QOTD: What are your thoughts on these shoes? Would you buy them? Do you think New Balance will make more versions of the shoe?

Omg! LOVE those!!! I have loved Minnie Mouse since I was a baby and those sneakers are just too cute!

I didn’t buy them at Goofy because they were sold out, but they look like such a fun shoe! I’d love to get a pair for my runDisney races

Those are so cute! I hope to one day be able to run in the half-marathon! (And visit Disney World for the first time!)

I couldn’t believe the mad dash for these things at the Expo! On Ebay, they are still around $350-$400 a pair! Crazy!

These shoes are adorable but running shoes are so individualized that I can’t imagine spending that much money on a pair of shoes unless they just happened to be the right model for my foot. I’d be heartbroken if I bought them and they didn’t work out for me. They sure are cute, though!

I don’t necessarily plan on running in mine but I know I will lift weights, cross train, go to the store, etc. in them. 🙂

As cute as they are, I can’t run in New Balance shoes. I tried NB out a couple years ago and my feet rebelled. I’m not going to spend that much money on sneakers I’m not going to use. Now, if runDisney teamed up with ASICS…

I plan to cross train/lift weights/wear them to the grocery store and around the Disney parks etc. 🙂

Must get these. I only run in Brooks but these would be super cute to cross-train in!

I definitely want a pair. I am kind of holding out to see if they make different versions next year, though.

I’m not in love with the design of these so I’ll be skipping out. I really love the Tiffany & co. inspired Robin Egg blue nike’s that were made for Nike Women’s Half last year though. I’d buy those in a heartbeat!

I actually won a pair at the Tink Half Meet Up! Unfortunately, they are not my type of shoes (support and whatnot) but they just happened to be the exact shoes my mom wears so she got lucky! She sports them everywhere she goes and gets a ton of compliments!

I was thinking the same as some previous posters – that I would be hesitant to run in these without knowing how they differ from what I’m used to. But Heather’s suggesting of using them for everything else (including touring the parks, duh!) is so obvious! Great idea!

How super cute are those shoes — too bad I can’t run in NB.

I would get these in a heartbeat! I would love if they came out in more colors too! Maybe a purple/pink one? Really wishing I was closer to Florida at the moment. Running Tink and Princess next year with a group of fantastic ladies for the Coast to Coast medal. Can’t wait!

Must. Have. Mickey. Shoes! They actually look pretty cool and I love the black! I love New Balance too so if I could get a pair I would use them to tour the parks.

The beaches of Alabama are the kind of place where the days feel slow, the kids are happy, and you don’t feel like you need a vacation after your vacation.

Alabama beaches in the spring just make sense.

2016 was a VERY big year for us. Moving states. Running multiple businesses. Being accused of getting a divorce. 🤣🫣 People are wild, yall.

Looking back they were some hard, wild times and I now know more hard times were ahead for us, but I wouldn’t change any of it. I know it’s part of our story, God had a plan, and there is a reason for it all. Just gotta keep keeping on! ❤️
