runDisney Princess Half Marathon News

April 26, 2013 | Disney, runDisney, running

runDisney has done it again! More surprises, more races, and more BLING is in store for the 2014 Princess half marathon weekend. I was just given info from runDisney about some new components for runners, so here’s the scoop:

princesshalfnews

On the heels of a very successful Dumbo Double Dare challenge sign up and Dopey challenge announcement, there will be an ALL NEW challenge fit for a princess, and I can’t wait! At this year’s event there will be a new 10k race option, as well as the opportunity to earn another medal for completing both the 10k and the half for a total of 19.3 miles… The Disney Glass Slipper Challenge medal.

The race will be held the weekend of February 20-23 2014, with the chance to earn a 5k medal, 10k medal, half marathon medal, and glass slipper challenge medal. Just when I thought I couldn’t get any more girly bling, another new component is being added. If you run both the Tinkerbell half marathon AND the Princess half marathon in the same year, you will get a special coast to coast medal with a pink overlay and lanyard. Too cute! If you plan on running both races, you can sign up for them at the same time on www.rundisney.com when Princess registration opens on June 11. However, if you plan to only register for the Tinkerbell half, registration for that event will not open until July 9th.

Nearly 7,500 runners ran the inaugural Princess half in 2009, and the women’s focused race has grown by leaps and bounds since then with more than 26,000 registered for the 2013 event. There will also be kids races and a health and fitness expo during both race weekends. I was hoping a 10k and challenge would be announced after how well Dumbo was received, and I just hope I will be able to participate! I had a blast running this year’s Princess half marathon and Royal Family 5k. It is my favorite runDisney race weekend, and I love that they are doing even more to allow runners of all abilities to join in the fun. So, who is with me? Glass Slipper Challenge 2014? What about the coast to coast? I would LOVE to run Tinkerbell one year!

QOTD: Thoughts on this challenge? Will you be participating in the weekend events?

Sounds awesome!! Tinkerbell is such a great race and I think adding the 10K to Princess Half weekend is going to make that event even more magical 😀

Exciting news! I can’t do Tink in 2014 so I won’t be eligible for the special coast to coast. But I am definitely going to do the 10k and half. And maybe I’ll do the 5k with my daughter if I think she can walk the course!

Well this is quite possibly the most exciting news EVER!! I planned on doing the Tinkerbell and Wine & Dine for 2014 but this is very tempting… hmmmm :0)

WOW!!! I’m basically doing the Glass Slipper Challenge in January…I signed up for the 10K and half…wish I’d known they were doing this for Princess and I would have signed up for that weekend instead to get a third medal! Oh well! Next year!!! 😉

Now I am even more excited!!!! However, I am worried about registration!! I will be registering on the day it opens, but I don’t want to miss out!! 🙂

Five medals??? I can’t wait to see all of them. Thanks for sharing, RunDisney has really pulled out all the stops for this one.

Yep, they got me. Hook, line and sinker…with a blingy medal to match. This Glass Slipper challenge is very much on my “OMG I want to do this” list for 2014. I hope I can do it.

  28. Alissa says

    April 27, 2013 at 8:17 pm

I was already planning on doing the Princess with a group of friends, now I am going to shoot for BOTH!! Some friends don’t want to do the half, so I figured I could talk them into the 10k with me.
I really want to do the Tinkerbell SO badly, & if would work better for me to hit my goal of doing Coast to Coast 2014. I want to start a family next year, but was going to wait until after the Disneyland Half. Now the debate is on!!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷

Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Hav Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Haven was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway—and then some. ⛰️

This luxury cabin has 4 spacious bedrooms (including one with built-in bunks that my daughter loved) and 4 full bathrooms, making it perfect for a family trip or group vacation.

We spent our days soaking in the hot tub with mountain views, lounging on the deck by the fireplace with coffee in hand, and playing pool in the game room.

The cabin even has its own private sauna and steam room—YES, really! It felt like a full-on spa experience right in the woods. ✨

And one of the best surprises? It has its own playground, which was a total hit with with daughter and such a bonus for keeping little ones entertained.

We were just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but honestly, we barely wanted to leave. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains trip, Alpine Haven is that perfect mix of cozy, modern, and wow-worthy. 💫
