RWS Features #2

December 1, 2011 | Uncategorized

Good morning! I can’t believe it’s December. Not that I’m complaining, I love Christmas! I survived my first full day in the boot. I think I need to name it. Any suggestions? Anyway, I have managed to get around pretty good, although it is difficult in the house when I am barefoot on the other foot. I wear a running shoe some but the dogs freak out when I wear shoes because they think I am going somewhere so I can’t do that all day.

Yesterday I did a lot of work for my Disney travel job (by the way NEW SPRING deals are now out. e-mail me at heather@travelwiththemagic.com for a free quote, it doesn’t cost you anything extra to have me plan your vacation!) and tried to clean up the house a little bit. Today I have a lot more to do, so I thought it would be a good day for a RWS Feature!

Meet Kristin! (@SassphaltRunner)

1.) How/Why did you start blogging? I only started blogging about a month ago, but it was in the works for a few months. As I started to read more and more amazing running stories/blogs, mostly by women who were just like myself, I immediately became inspired. We all have a story and being able to share that story with such a supportive running community is cathartic. For me, my blog is somewhat twofold – yes, it mainly focuses on running which is something I love, but I also wanted to be able to open up to folks that I am partially blind and have been that way since I was born. I wanted to demonstrate that despite this, it’s molded me into who I am. It’s taken a lifetime to admit this to others which I’m still in the process of doing.

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences: SassphaltRunner is about living your life, doing what you truly love, and running over life’s speed bumps one stride at a time – with a sprinkle of sassy, of course. šŸ™‚

3.) What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging? I want to be able to inspire readers and fellow runners to know that it’s okay to let your guard down and let people in about your imperfections, whatever they may be. Chances are, they won’t see them the way you do.

4.) What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment? When I turned 30 nearly two years ago, a light bulb went off. While I had been running in local races since 2005 and running as a form of fitness since college, I really wanted to step things up a bit – I wanted to run a half marathon. I never thought I couldn’t do it although there were times that I was skeptical. Finishing that half marathon on 10.10.10 was my biggest healthy living accomplishment because the training and the race itself marked a new chapter in my life. No, I don’t have a drastic weight loss story – running a half wasn’t a form of weight loss for me. Rather, it made me more determined, happier, and conscious of how important running was to my life and health and was a constant reminder of how I never wanted to stop. I now have three half marathons under my belt and I’ll be running the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans marathon on March 4, 2012 – my first!

Be sure to stop by Kristin’s blog and say hello! I mean, she’s wearing a Running Skirt, she’s my new best friend!

QOTD: Have you ever had to overcome a big obstacle in the health and fitness part of your life?

How about naming the boot “walking with class” lol.. yeah that is all I have. I have no Christmas decorations up. I have to wait or the cats will have them all down. ;0) We have done the Disney Cruise twice. Love it.

I started noticing little signs during my normal day. Just occasional bloating, gas, and that slightly ā€œoffā€ feeling. So instead of ignoring it, I listened. I slowed down, moved more consistently, and added Align Probiotic to my routine.

It’s one capsule a day and the #1 doctor-recommended probiotic brand for over 15 years—. I started taking Align to help relieve my occasional gas, bloating, and stomach discomfort* and now I feel more comfortable moving through my day. @alignprobiotic

And now… it finally will be. šŸ¤

We’re not leaving Tennessee, just making a local move that puts us closer to my daughter’s school, closer to our day-to-day life, and honestly closer to the version of life I’ve been hoping for since we moved here. (Aka not so much time in the car!)

Still Knoxville. New chapter. Lots of boxes. Please pray. šŸ”šŸ“¦

Between dogs, snacks that never make it to a plate, and whatever is happening in my entryway on a daily basis… I needed something that could actually keep up in one go. This one’s been doing the heavy lifting so I’m not doing 12 different cleanups for the same mess.

Life doesn’t happen in neat, single-surface moments. From pet hair to crumbs to tracked-in grass, real homes have layered messes. The BISSELL PowerClean DualBrushā„¢ is designed to handle it all in one pass without switching tools or going over the same spot twice.

Promotion: List Price $359.99, on sale for $259.99 ($100 off) from 4/5–5/30. Limited time only, don’t miss it. Link in bio to shop while the deal lasts šŸ‘€

I clipped the 4x fuel points digital coupon on the Kroger app, grabbed a Mastercard gift card at Kroger, and turned a quick errand into a little win-win situation by adding in a handmade colored card and personalized note. She gets to pick exactly what she wants. šŸ’›

I get 4X fuel points while I’m already out running around (because of course I am). Simple, thoughtful, and honestly kind of perfect.
Head to your local Kroger, clip the coupon, and grab a Visa or Mastercard gift card, but the offer is only good through May 12! Link is in my bio!

#ZbarPartner I know these days won’t last forever, #ZbarPartner I know these days won’t last forever, so I’m soaking up every driveway game, every laugh, every little break in the grass. šŸ¤

Lately our go-to has been Zbar Protein Snack Bars, especially the new Strawberries ā€˜N Creme flavor that is made with organic whole grain oats, real fruit, and protein to help support growing kids. It’s a snack she loves and I feel good about too.

It’s a great little reset so she can get right back to doing what she does best, playing her heart out šŸ’•

Getting older, I started noticing my hair wasn’t q Getting older, I started noticing my hair wasn’t quite the same. A little more thinning, my scalp hasn’t felt the same, and I’ve spent more time just throwing it up into a ponytail, and honestly not giving it much thought beyond that. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

So I started becoming more intentional about actually taking care of my hair and scalp, and it’s such a small shift, but it really does make me feel better.

I’ve been using Mochi Health’s personalized hair support options, which makes it easier to stay consistent instead of guessing what to use. It fits into my routine and finally feels like I’m doing something proactive for myself instead of just hiding it in a bun. Check out the link in my bio for $40 off your first month.
