Disney Fantasy April 2013: Castaway Cay Day

Happy Birthday America! I am so proud and blessed to live in a free country, and grateful to those who have fought to keep it that way!

We left off with our last sea day, the day before Castaway Cay which is my favorite day!

In a way I have already covered part of the day because I did my recap of the Castaway Cay 5k already, so I will just skip over the actual race which was first thing in the morning.

We were smart and brought our bags with us so we didn’t have to go back to the ship. We changed into our swimsuits and headed straight for Serenity Bay, the adults only beach at the end of the island. My favorite place on earth!

DSC_0891

Since we ran the 5k we were a little late getting to the party, but were still able to find chairs and an umbrella. Some dark storm clouds were looming overhead, and I really hoped they would go away so we could enjoy our last day of the cruise.

The tide was way out and the sandbar was above the water, so we decided to go out to it and bring Bobby’s underwater camera and have some fun.

Chillin on the sandbar

100_0047

yes, my arm is double jointed. Wwwweeeee!

100_0054

It got quite dark while we were out there.

100_0052

Oh you know, just hanging out in the middle of the ocean on a sandbar while a huge storm rolls in!

100_0050

Bobby decided t take a nap.

100_0058

After awhile, I decided to go back in while Bobby did some snorkeling. We got SO LUCKY and the storm went right over us, no rain, and beautiful blue skies came out for the rest of the day!

I went to our chairs and started reading a book, when I saw this guy walking across the beach. Of course, I had to get a picture. Ssshhh don’t tell Bobby. He was still snorkeling!

DSC_0917

I then proceeded to do my favorite thing. Ever. I ordered a Konk cooler (my favorite drink, ONLY made on Castaway Cay) and pulled my chair up to the water and just relaxed. Pure heaven. (You can see Bobby with his snorkel gear in the background!)

DSC_0923

I sat like this for a long while, relaxing, reading books, and just being so thankful to be in a beautiful place…and then my stomach started growling. Lunch time! Bobby came in and we headed towards the smell of BBQ to the adults only outdoor restaurant for some grub, followed by ice cream of course. We headed back to our spots, more konk coolers were consumed, and we enjoyed an afternoon of bliss.

Mid afternoon we decided to take the tram to the family beach so Bobby could go on the snorkeling path with his underwater camera. We packed up and then set up a spot at the back of the family beach. We only had a couple hours left until all aboard, so it wasn’t completely full of people by this point. While Bobby snorkeled, I went to take some pictures and walk around.

Sadly it was soon time to go. We like to stay on the island as long as possible, and the lifeguards gave the 15 minute call so we decided to go.

The drawing show is super cute, and was one of my favorite parts of our dining experience! However, I think I should keep my day job. Drawing is NOT my gift.

DSC_0993

We went to the adult’s club one more time for a fun game of battle of the sexes before heading off to bed for our last time about the Disney Fantasy. We truly had an AMAZING cruise, and spent a lot of time just relaxing and enjoying the boat. It was very laid back with no set schedule which I loved, and hope to do it again soon!

*Remember, I can book your cruise for you at no extra cost to you, on most cruise lines! Email [email protected] for a free quote!

QOTD: Do you like to get in the water or lay out on the beach?

Disney Fantasy Part 5: April 2013

My last trip entry was our delicious dinner at Palo. The next day was Cozumel day! We knew exactly where we were heading, our favorite spot: Paradise Beach. We have been here I think four times or so, and we love it. You pay two dollars for a chair/umbrella, and get to use the beach and the pool. They have other optional add on’s for a fee as well. Not to mention, they have a GREAT menu with lots to choose from, and super clean bathrooms.

We were some of the first people off the boat and ended up walking accidentally with one of the shore excursion groups. It was funny, we were just right in the thick of them. The nice part about it was when we were walking through the outdoor mall part, none of the vendors bugged us because they knew the tour group wouldn’t stop for them to shop so they didn’t waste their breath. Must remember this for next time as well!

We hopped in a taxi and were literally the first ones there I think!

DSC_0823

DSC_0826

We headed out to the beach first and decided we would hit the pool a bit later after lunch.

I don’t know.

We relaxed in the chairs and I enjoyed a yummy Tidal wave.

We got hungry after an hour or so, and decided to go eat lunch up at the tables near the pool and then hang out there for awhile. I love the view of the pool and the ocean from the tables, and it’s a nice shady area to eat. I had some yummy quesadillas and another drink.

DSC_0846

We hung out in the enormous pool for awhile, and I even took an amazing nap in my chair. Talk about a great place for a nap! We stayed until about 3:00 and decided we had been out in the sun long enough.

DSC_0851

We hated to say goodbye to our favorite Cozumel spot though!

DSC_0847

We took a taxi back to the port and saw the beautiful Fantasy again.

DSC_0853

DSC_0855

If you are ever in Cozumel and are looking for a great but inexpensive place to relax for the day, I highly recommend Paradise Beach! I would love to answer any questions you have. Also, be sure to check them out on Facebook for more pictures!

That night was Pirate night. AAARRGGHH!

DSC_0858

DSC_0861

We enjoyed dinner, and were able to watch the fireworks from our balcony in our room! I was way too tired and full to go to the Pirate Buffet so Bobby went without me and brought his food back to the room.

DSC_0862

Of course he had to get a turkey leg.

DSC_0864

I think I was asleep before he even started eating. It was a long day in the sun!

QOTD: Beach or pool?

Disney Cruise From Galveston Part 2

Part one of my Disney cruise photos can be found here.

I left off after our first port day, Grand Cayman. That night, was pirate night, arrrgghh!

DSC_0744

DSC_0748

After dinner we went up on deck for the pirate party and fireworks at sea. Pretty cool stuff.

DSC_0758

Followed by the pirate buffet. I was so full from dinner I couldn’t eat much, but that didn’t stop Bobby.

DSC_0762

The next morning, we docked in Costa Maya. For those who aren’t familiar, Costa Maya is very….errr…primitive compared to places like Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Most of the area doesn’t have electricity, and it’s a very, very poor place. We decided to do a jeep excursion, and it ended up being quite the crazy day.

DSC_0763

DSC_0769

Rain clouds threatened, but at the time we had no clue how much it would impact our day

DSC_0771

There were six jeeps total following the two guides in their jeep, and ours was right behind the guides, we we had the fun task of trying to keep up with them…with a broken speedometer. Yes, it read zero the entire time.

DSC_0785

We drove out of he tourist area down some roads and to another little town.

DSC_0774

DSC_0778

DSC_0779

It was quite sad. They told us the school doesn’t have a teacher and the kids watch a TV to learn then walk home. We walked around the village for a few minutes and then got back in the Jeeps to head through the jungle, off road to a beach where we could swim and would have lunch prepared for us.

DSC_0784

We drove on the main road for a few minutes then took an abrupt left into the jungle. Seriously.

DSC_0786

After about fifteen minutes of laughing hysterically, trying to keep up, going through huge holes and having trees whacking us, it started to POUR. Everyone stopped and we put the tops up, except there were NO SIDES to the jeep in the back so my parents still got soaked.

We actually passed one vehicle on this “road”, it was a very nice new looking camouflaged truck, and inside it were about 25 soldiers…with giant guns. Not going to lie it was kind of creepy. Where did they come from? We were literally in the middle of nowhere a good 20-25 minutes off the road. It surely reminded me we were not in America and we needed to be mindful and observant.

We finally made it to the beach, still pouring rain.

DSC_0795

It looked like it would be beautiful on a nice sunny day. SmileThis place was really cool, and about as authentic as it gets.

DSC_0799

They had a “buffet” for us (which I was slightly hesitant to eat)

DSC_0798

DSC_0800

The rain turned to a drizzle and we were able to go walk outside, and some of the kids even got in the water.

DSC_0802

DSC_0804

DSC_0809

Soon we were told it was time to start heading back. I snapped a few photos before heading to the jeep.

DSC_0811

DSC_0812

Luckily we had brought some beach towels and were able to dry off and use them to help us from getting soaked. It was still raining a bit, but we had to get back to the boat! Little did we know….

DSC_0821

We took a different way back than the way we came, all dirt, well, now, all RIVER. The road was washed out and what remained were gigantic “pot holes” stretching the entire length of the road. We were the lead car and HAD to keep up with the guides who were flying through them, and since it was a manual jeep, Bobby couldn’t slow down too much or we would stall, so we had to fly through these bad boys and it was insane. Photos don’t do it justice. My mom and I got SOAKED in the back seat, covered with mud. Mud went flying up over the top of the jeep, as we bounced along. Oh, and the windshield wiper only worked if you held it down, so my dad had to keep leaning over and hitting it for Bobby. We were cracking up laughing the whole time, my stomach was aching. This went on for about 30-40 minutes, all the way back into town. Hilarious. I have a short video of part of the wild ride, please ignore me laughing hysterically in the background, but it is worth watching. Check out my mom’s face at the very end!

We finally made it back to the main road and into town.

DSC_0826

We were taken to a souvenir store and given free tequila. We stood in a little group as he talked to us about the “Mexican medicine” and then he called me out of the crowd to take a shot in front of everyone. Great. Those pictures are on my mom’s camera and I will probably never see them. The most hilarious part as when he tried to give a shot to a seven year old girl. Her mom freaked out, it was quite funny.

DSC_0831

Dad’s turn. We shopped a bit then drove the rest of the way back to drop off the jeeps. Whew! When we set out on this adventure I had no idea what to expect, and it was a little out of my comfort zone but I am so glad we did it, and I don’t think it would have been near as much fun without the rain. Smile

DSC_0834

DSC_0835

After we got cleaned up, I went back on deck to take some photos with my stalker zoom lens. We were in port until 11:00 pm, so I went back again to see how little of this huge area had electricity.

DSC_0841

DSC_0843

DSC_0850

The hurricane back in 2006 knocked a LOT of this area out. I remember going on a cruise in 2007 that was rerouted from here because there was so much damage.

DSC_0853

DSC_0855

We had a great day in Costa Maya. Everyone was so friendly with the jeep rentals and at the beach/restaurant we went to, and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something fun and family friendly to do here.

QOTD: Have you ever done a ship excursion? Any favorites?

May Disney World Trip and Cruise Part 1

As you probably know, Bobby and I just got back from a long vacation. Bobby had not been to Disney since September and we hadn’t cruised together in a year (I went on a 3 day work cruise in March) so we were excited about the opportunity to unplug and have a nice long trip together. We first sailed on a 5 night cruise to Key West, Nassau, and Disney’s private island Castaway Cay, and then spent 4 nights in WDW.

We got on the Disney Magic at lunchtime and were able to snag Palo brunch reservations before heading to lunch. The weather was beautiful so we were able to eat outside and not sweat to death (seriously we had gorgeous weather the entire time!)

DSC_0395

We walked around the ship and took pictures while we waited for our cabin to be ready.

Before long it was time to head to our rooms. I was ready to ditch my carry on bag and start getting our luggage so we could unpack. We were in a deluxe oceanview stateroom with a verandah on the 6th deck. (6130) I highly recommend this room if you are looking for a specific number. It was clean and everything was in working order, and our hall was very very quiet.

Then we walked around some more and found the ping pong and fooseball tables up on the deck, where we ended up spending MANY hours during the course of the trip. Let’s just say Bobby didn’t know I had a fooseball table for awhile growing up and that I am pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Eventually it was time for dinner.

DSC_0465

We were lucky enough to snag a private table at our seating, score!

After dinner we went to the adult’s only area/club and played a really fun scavenger hunt game where I ended up taking off my bra through my dress in front of everyone and giving it to Bobby to wear on stage…don’t ask. We also watched match your mate (kind of like the newlywed game where all the men always end up getting into trouble). We laughed and laughed and had a great time and then went to bed for our first night, ready to tackle Key West the next day!

QOTD: Who will be watching the Grey’s Anatomy finale tonight? Who do you think will die? What about American Idol? Who’s going home?

Back and Burned

Hola! I am back from the beautiful Disney Fantasy cruise ship! I had a fabulous time in WDW at the Yacht club and on the boat getting to know fellow agents and such. I hate it had to end so quickly, but it does feel good to be home. I have so much to catch up on, and things will be getting back to normal now (as normal as they get here on RWS!) I can’t wait to share stories and pictures, but I must do some organizing and sorting etc. and I still have a bit to recap from my princess trip! I hope you enjoyed the guest posts while I was away. a HUGE thank you again to my lovely volunteers, you wrote some great stuff! So, did you miss me?!?!  Here are a few teaser pictures:

Disney Dream Part 5 and Final Thoughts

A new week is before us! What fun things do you have planned? Me? Not a lot so far, but I am working on it!

In case you have been MIA this weekend…

Disney Dream part 4

Ice Cream Party and TNT

Ok ok, so those of you loathing the Disney posts can now rejoice, this is my last recap day of the trip. We woke up on the morning of our last full day back in Castaway Cay (well, pulling in, close enough.) We ate breakfast at the buffet (I think) and made our way out to the island.

we read books, Bobby swam out to the sandbar, we walked on the beach, and once again, Bobby and I met at Pelican Point for some beach volleyball. We had a great time playing two on two with two other guys who were pretty good. Before we knew it, it was getting deserted, and we realized we needed to be on the boat in the next 15 minutes. whoops! I am always sad on Castaway Cay afternoon. When everything is shutting down and you are walking the empty paths. Means vacation is almost over. BOO!

So we get back on the ship and my mom is freaking out because we weren’t back yet and she thought the ship was going to leave us. I told her to think about how ridiculous it sounds for Disney to leave a guest on their own private island. ha!

We took some shots of the island with my stalker- I mean mega zoom lens.

DSC_0550 DSC_0551

We went to bed after we put our luggage in the hall. We had to get up at 5:30 for breakfast. When we woke up we were back in port. So sad! We ate breakfast in Animator’s, said goodbye to our servers and our room host, and got in line to get off the ship. There were so many people trying to get off, it took forever! We made it out and to the car, and back home safe and sound, and exhausted! Just like that, the trip we planned a year ago….was over. SO DEPRESSING!

FINAL THOUGHTS.

Ok, so having been on the magic for a 7 nighter, the wonder for a 5 night double dip and now the Dream for a 5 night double dip, I have a few thoughts on the new ship, the Dream.

Pros:

The ship is gorgeous! The lobby is amazing, the technology SO COOL. I love how now the in room movie system is a lot better (on demand instead of looped) and everything smelled so clean! This was on first time in a verandah room and we loved it. The restaurants were beautiful enchanted garden was so nice, the food was good, and plentiful, it was very ascetically pleasing. We loved how they revamped Cabanas, the buffet. It was much roomier and easier to get food. Instead waiting in a line you pop in and out to get what you want. All the crew members were very kind and pleasant enough. We got to see Pirates of the Caribbean 4 in 3D, so that was fun. The aquaduck was also way cool. I like how they separated the fireworks from the pirate show so we could go up just to see the fireworks. I loved looking at all of the intricate details of the ship So many things to see!

Cons:

Too many people for this gal. If you have never been on another Disney ship you may not notice, but the pool deck and restaurants felt VERY cramped. The adult pool was TINY, and because of where it was positioned on the ship, families with kids were always walking though, which kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me. The tables in the restaurants were SO close together, the servers couldn’t even get by to get us our food. Our serving team was SO SWEET, we loved them, but our head girl, it was her first cruise ever to be head server. She forgot a lot of our food, dropped food, service was slow, drink glasses stayed empty, all things we have never experienced before on a Disney cruise. me thinks maybe she wasn’t quite ready for the promotion. We had to wait in a line to get off the ship, never have we had to do that before. Serenity Bay was of course a lot more crowded because of all the extra people, and I could feel it. It wasn’t quite as “serene” with so many people. The fitness room was right over my parents room and they heard weights being dropped and treadmills being run on all hours of the day. Granted, none of these things are deal breakers, and we still had a great time, so if you are booked on the Dream please don’t freak out! You will still have an amazing time! These are just a few HONEST observations I had on my 3rd Disney cruise. I wish they would make a smaller boat with all the new technological advances. I think for adults with no kids, they will start going back on the magic and wonder. The kids clubs are awesome, but apparently super awesome on the Dream so I don’t see any of this being a deal breaker to people with kids. I was definitely amazed at the technology and beauty of the Dream, but just got a little anxious with all the people, but I know that doesn’t even bother some people, so take it with a grain of salt, mmk?

Would I go on the Dream again? of COURSE!! Thanks for reading all about my vacation!

QOTD: Do big crowds bother you? Have you sailed with Disney?

————————————————————-

Last night, Bobby and I went to the gym and did chest, tri’s, and legs, and 20 minutes on the bike. It STORMED thunder and lightning while we were there, and the power even went out. On Twitter this morning I said I was going to do a rain dance…I guess it worked! We have needed rain! Tonight I meet up with my TNT group for a run, it will be my first time getting to run with them!

QOTD: What is your favorite food to eat at the beach?

Kick it into High Gear

Good morning!

In just a couple of weeks, I will be on vacation! I am so ready for it. The past couple months have been such an adjustment with moving, Bobby working at a new place, learning a new town, new, new, new. New is good but also scary and exhausting, so I am excited to get to unwind with my family in my favorite place on earth, DISNEYWORLD!

DSC_0427

And staying at the Polynesian!

and then getting on the Mickey boat!!! (The Disney Dream)

DSC_1369

This is actually a picture of the Magic. I don’t have any pics of the Dream since well…I haven’t been on her yet!

The fact that vacation has snuck up on me has put me in PANIC MODE. Why do you ask? I have not been in public in a swimsuit since last summer. AAAHHH! First things first…I do not think I am fat, and I am not going on a “diet” and I am not trying to get sympathy or fish for compliments. I am honestly just NOT READY to be in a swimsuit yet for the summer.

It’s so easy in the winter to hide the less toned or squishy parts with bulky sweaters and the like. It will be way hot in Florida and the Bahamas so I will be forced to show skin or die. I would also like to mention I am a generally pretty modest person so I feel awkward in a swimsuit in public no matter how I look. This is why I was PETRIFIED to post my before and after 6 weeks to 6 pack pictures! I don’t feel I am where I would like to be as far as the “firming up” goes, so I have put a plan into action for the next couple of weeks that will hopefully help me feel a little more confident. This is my “kick it into high gear” plan:

-Workout 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day (cardio once weights once preferably)

-food overhaul! I know I will eat AWFUL on vaca which is fine, but cutting back on stuff I love will be easier knowing I can eat whatever I want in a couple of weeks on the trip! So what am I cutting back on? Mainly sugar and white flour/pasta/etc. I have a massive sweet tooth and have been eating Easter candy and the like since April. I will be trying to not eat “dessert” after dinner or late at night. Making simple substitutions should really make a difference.

-work on the mental aspect of things (I will never see these people again, it doesn’t matter what I look like or what they think, I am beautiful inside and out, etc.)

2011-05-09181052

Bobby brought me flowers he picked yesterday when he came home from work!

I want to be HEALTHY and TONED not “skinny” Smile

So, do you think I will be able to stick with this for two weeks? Any words or wisdom or tricks of the trade?

*I updated my workout log tab

*I still need ONE guest blogger, any volunteers? It doesn’t have to be fancy! Could be a race recap, recipe, etc. e-mail me!

QOTD: Any tips for me and my “plan?”

Now We’re Cruisin!

HOLA! I’ts Friday eve! I hope you are all doing well. I was having a great morning and then something happened that rattled me, and I shouldn’t have let it…it really upset me and ruined my day, and I REFUSE to let that happen today!

I have some GREAT news for Disney fans! yesterday, Disney announced the rest of the 2012 DCL (Disney cruise like) itineraries, and they are a doozie! Lots of new fun to be had! Ok, so check this out:

New York Sailings
Beginning May 25, 2012, the Disney Magic® will sail a total of 20 cruises from New York.
* 8-night Bahamian cruises include a day at Disney’s Castaway Cay and a stop at Port Canaveral, gateway to the Walt Disney World® Resort. As part of this itinerary, your Client will receive a one-day Park Hopper® Ticket and roundtrip transportation between the ship and resort.
* 5-night Canadian/New England cruises will visit Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick.
* 2-night cruises are perfect for Clients looking for a quick getaway at sea over a weekend.

Seattle Sailings
Beginning May 28, 2012, the Disney Wonder® will sail a total of 14 cruises to Alaska from the Port of Seattle, Wash.
* 7-night Alaskan cruises will call on Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan plus Victoria, British Columbia.

Galveston Sailings
Beginning Sept. 22, 2012, the Disney Magic will sail 12 cruises from the Port of Galveston, Texas.
* 7-night Western Caribbean cruises will visit Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, as well as Grand Cayman.

Los Angeles Sailings

The Disney Dream™ will continue to sail 3-, 4- and 5-night Bahamian cruises. The new Disney Fantasy™ will offer Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, beginning with the maiden voyage on March 31, 2012. Sail dates for both ships are now available through December 2012.

DSC_1008

WHOAH that’s a lot of information, I know. SO basically these sailings are fairly limited, and you can start booking them TOMORROW! So those of you living in New York, Texas, and LA, DCL is coming for you! A lot of people will be happy to know the Alaskan cruises are now going out of Seattle for next summer, that will save a lot of $$ on airfare for people!

DSC_1150

If you have never been on a Disney Cruise you are totally missing out. I was even skeptical until I went, and I am definitely a convert! I don’t even have kids and it’s awesome. Disney does such a great job of having adults only areas on the ship and on Castaway Cay, I honestly didn’t even see kids all that much! And, if you have kids, Disney has THE BEST kids clubs around. I have seen kids CRYING because they didn’t want to leave the kids club and go with mom and dad. The clubs are open late, and they will even pick kids up at the restaurants midway through dinner so they don’t have to sit through a long boring dinner.

Ok sorry about that, I could ramble on and on and on about DCL, if you ever want me to just ask. Smile If you would like a quote for a cruise from now until the end of 2012 I would be more than happy to give you a free no obligation quote. Just e mail me at heather AT travelwiththemagic DOT com. Of If you would like a Disneyworld quote, non Disney quote, anything! Also Disneyworld has some discounts on deluxe hotels out for summer right now!

Ok moving on, I promise!

So last night I made Bobby do my 6 weeks in 6 pack video with me since he was making fun of me for being sore. heh. This morning the first thing I said to him was “are you sore?!” He said he was. YAY! Now maybe he will take my DVD more seriously Smile I know he was always proud of me but it was still fun to torture him.

I am starting to see a difference in my body from doing the DVD. It’s a SMALL difference, but I am starting to get a LITTLE bit of ab definition. (NOT a 6 pack though!) hopefully that will become more obvious in the next 2.5 weeks. I would hate to not be able to post my before and after photos because there is no difference!

Ok, I have to go to Target and spend all my money, then clean bathrooms. Oh joy! (and of course do my ab workout!) I hope everyone has a great day!

QOTD: Does your significant other workout with you?

Cruisin’ With Mickey

Afternoon friends! I hope you are getting through your Monday without too much despair. At least most people probably have a short work week, right? Anyway, I thought since it’s a depressing Monday I would share some of our cruise pictures with you of the sunny Caribbean!

You may remember we got a great deal on a 7 night Disney cruise the week after Thanksgiving. It went to Key West, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Castaway Cay which is Disney’s private island. I will try to do a series of posts so I won’t share all of my pictures at once. Smile

Here are some of Key West:

Ok, so it wasn’t exactly SUNNY that day, but you get the idea!

Today I am going to cross train, I haven’t done that in over a month! Tomorrow will be a short run, Thursday will be a middle distance run, and Sunday will be a long run!

Have a great day everyone!

QOTD: have you been to Key West? What was your favorite part?
