Inaugural Disneyland 10k 2013

I love west coast runDisney races.

runDisney Disneyland 10k

Waking up at 4:45 is like waking up at 6:45 in my brain, and walking to the start from my on site hotel took five minutes. Genius. That may be why I don’t look so exhausted in my pre race photo.

Bobby and I headed down to our corrals right as the 5k winner was coming through. They were not yet letting people into the corrals, so we hung out in a giant mob of people until nearly 6:00 for a 6:15 start. The National anthem was sung, and the race had started! Bobby was running for time so he was up ahead of me. My plan was to have as much fun as possible. After a quick wave at Carissa and a shout out from her, I headed off for my first runDisney 10k.

Within a couple of minutes, Meghann found me, and we found Brian from Pavement Runner! We have been talking about meeting for so long and how fun to see him on the race course. I also saw Karen, and Christine and Pam.

I ended up running with Meghann for the first few miles, and we had a blast!

We made it into Cars Land and the photo taking began.

You can’t tell I’m having fun or anything…734896-1036-0036s

We didn’t stop for this photo, but Mike did a crazy wave for us.

my attempt at a selfie with the castle in the background.

Somewhere around this point I stopped to take a GU and lost Meghann in the crowd. I continued on my picture taking spree and did some waiting in line for photos.

It IS a small world after all. I ran into SO many awesome folks who read my blog, I stopped counting after 15. It was fun to see how runDisney connects up all in one place and one race! A big HI to everyone I ran into on the course!

I told the guy to count so I could jump, he looked confused, but he did a good job! Hooray fall!

I love animals Not horses particularly, but seriously, how often do you take a picture with a horse on a race course?

Loved this sign.

These ladies were fun, I don’t see them out often.

I’m late! The white rabbit shooed me along after this photo.

I had to get a photo in front of the Dumbo ride!

I jumped in line for these guys and told them I had fun seeing them yesterday at the meet up. The Mad Hatter seemed shocked that I missed him already!

I got this one for my buddy Kelly, the red queen is her favorite.

WWWEEEE! I’m running through Disneyland!

I got this one for my bestie Jen who had to miss the race. These guys are her favorite.

I ran through Frontierland to another backstage area before heading out into Downtown Disney. I knew we had to be getting close as the finish we near the Disneyland Hotel. I loved the final stretch through DTD, so much crowd support!

You can tell by my red face the heat was starting to get to me. Ok, time to be done!

I saw the mile 6 sign and gave it all I had. Bobby took video of me crossing the finish with a smile on my face. After another shout out from Carissa, I was done.

Hooray finish line!

I grabbed my medal, water and snacks and found Bobby among all the runners. I finished in 1:11 and change, which is pretty good considered all the stopping and standing in line I did for characters and filming!

Bobby did a great job and came really close to a PR.

Please check out this fun little video I made while running on the 10k course. It was fun to video as I ran through the parks!

Final thoughts: I LOVED this race. I loved loved loved the course. It took you through so much of the parks…it felt like the majority of the race was IN the parks which was fantastic and so much fun. There were a lot of character opportunities, and ending running through Downtown Disney with the crowd support was phenomenal. runDisney did a great job, it’s so tough for inaugural events to know exactly how to plan things, and I think they hit the nail on the head in almost every aspect of the race. The only minor hiccups were not letting us into our corrals until nearly 6:00, and I do think another water stop on the course would be great (with some electrolytes). I missed having electrolytes on that super hot day, and found myself looking for water fountains a couple of times on the course. Oh, one other concern was not all character stops had marathon foto photographers, which I didn’t realize until after. I was bummed I didn’t get professional photos at all of my stops. Minor details of course, still an amazing race!

QOTD: What is your favorite race distance? Are you excited about the addition of a 10k to runDisney races?

Disclosure: I attended this race weekend as media. My registrations, hotel, park tickets and some meals were provided to me by runDisney. However, all opinions are my own.

Tinkerbell 10k Announced!

There have been lots of rumors, but now it’s official: the runDisney Tinkerbell 10k is actually happening!

Tink 10k announced

It will be a fairy themed 10k held on Saturday, the day before the tink half marathon.

runDisney Princess News and Registration Information

I have accurate and CONFIRMED information straight from runDisney concerning the Princess half marathon weekend.

photo (39)

It’s almost time! Registration for the runDisney Princess half marathon opens to the public on June 11th. For Annual Passholders and DVC members, it opens tomorrow June 6th*. Not only is the Princess half an amazing and fun race, but this year there is a new component for you to “try on”, the Glass Slipper Challenge.

IMG_1652 - Copy

This challenge consists of running the Enchanted 10k on Saturday, and the Princess half marathon on Sunday (there is also a Cinderella Royal Family 5k, but it’s not part of the challenge.)

runDisney has also made some for-the-better adjustments to how this years race will be run. Folks, they are listening to the runners and care about our happiness and our safety. Check out some of the new information I was given as confirmed:

-The same new features added to marathon weekend 2014 will carry over to Princess such as decreased number of registrants by about 2k (mainly in the half marathon), more and smaller corrals for a better flow and less congestion, and stricter proof of time (everyone running a 3:15 and under will have to offer one).

-The cutoff date for giving runDisney a proof of time will be December 1, 2013. Changes cannot be made at the expo like in previous years.

-The Fit for a Princess health and fitness expo will reclaim it’s throne at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, and will NOT be held at Coronado Springs Resort like it was in 2013.

-All resorts will be host hotels for the event. This means it doesn’t matter where on Disney property you stay, you will get transportation to and from the expo and races!

-There will be a LIMITED number of spots for people registering for Princess that can ALSO register for the Tinkerbell half marathon in Disneyland! This will guarantee your ability to get the awesome new coast to coast medal (see below). Once these spots are gone, you will have to wait until July to register for Tink.

-Runners will receive a special pink coast to coast medal for completing both the Tink half and Princess half in one calendar year. You can also get a second coast to coast medal if you complete another set of coast to coast races such as wine and dine half and the Disneyland half.

*If you would like to register for any of the Princess weekend events, I urge you to NOT WAIT. These races fill up fast, especially with a new challenge being added into the mix. Keep an eye on to see how full the races are, and register ASAP if you have your heart set on running. You will be able to register directly on the rundisney site on the 11th.

QOTD: Will you be registering for Princess and/or the glass slipper challenge? What about Tink? Thoughts on the PINK Coast to Coast?

*I cannot confirm Disney visa early registration or discount, but in the past it has happened!

runDisney Princess Half Marathon News

runDisney has done it again! More surprises, more races, and more BLING is in store for the 2014 Princess half marathon weekend. I was just given info from runDisney about some new components for runners, so here’s the scoop:

On the heels of a very successful Dumbo Double Dare challenge sign up and Dopey challenge announcement, there will be an ALL NEW challenge fit for a princess, and I can’t wait! At this year’s event there will be a new 10k race option, as well as the opportunity to earn another medal for completing both the 10k and the half for a total of 19.3 miles… The Disney Glass Slipper Challenge medal.

The race will be held the weekend of February 20-23 2014, with the chance to earn a 5k medal, 10k medal, half marathon medal, and glass slipper challenge medal. Just when I thought I couldn’t get any more girly bling, another new component is being added. If you run both the Tinkerbell half marathon AND the Princess half marathon in the same year, you will get a special coast to coast medal with a pink overlay and lanyard. Too cute! If you plan on running both races, you can sign up for them at the same time on when Princess registration opens on June 11. However, if you plan to only register for the Tinkerbell half, registration for that event will not open until July 9th.

Nearly 7,500 runners ran the inaugural Princess half in 2009, and the women’s focused race has grown by leaps and bounds since then with more than 26,000 registered for the 2013 event. There will also be kids races and a health and fitness expo during both race weekends. I was hoping a 10k and challenge would be announced after how well Dumbo was received, and I just hope I will be able to participate! I had a blast running this year’s Princess half marathon and Royal Family 5k. It is my favorite runDisney race weekend, and I love that they are doing even more to allow runners of all abilities to join in the fun. So, who is with me? Glass Slipper Challenge 2014? What about the coast to coast? I would LOVE to run Tinkerbell one year!

QOTD: Thoughts on this challenge? Will you be participating in the weekend events?
