RWS Features #49

Yay for Saturday! I can’t believe a week ago today I was embarking on the first leg of my goofy journey (pun intended). I am working on my race recaps, and waiting for official photos to be released…I want them to be just right before I share, so I apologize for the delay, but they will be up this week, as long as my expo recap, so stay tuned! Today though I want you to meet Jodi. She has written a guest post for me before, and is my featured blogger this week! She blogs at

How/why did you start blogging?

I started blogging with my BRF (best running friend) to chronicle our “race to the castle”! We are both newer runners chasing down a dream to become running princesses at Disney’s Princess Half-Marathon in February. Our blog is essentially a way for us to “scrapbook” the journey, and share our story with others. We’re running to be the best version of ourselves and we tell our readers how we’re doing it, while juggling families and careers. We share the whole story, not just the good parts, from injuries to motivation to time management – we’re really dealing with all aspects of training. It’s all about setting big goals and fighting for them. And of course, embracing the fact that everything is more fun in a tiara!

Sum up your blog in a couple of sentences

Running to the Castle in pink shoes is about more than just a race. It’s about proving something to myself. It’s about setting a goal and achieving it. It’s about being feminine and athletic, not having to choose between the two. It’s about showing my daughters that strong is beautiful. It’s about my sole sister and supporting each other along the way. It’s about realizing the childhood dream of becoming a princess by making my own dreams come true as an adult. It’s about having faith and trust in myself…and still believing in pixie dust too.

What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

We started blogging so we could document the journey we are on, but it has turned into a great forum for motivating others too. We are not Olympians training to win any medals; this is just the story of two moms on the run. If we can do it, anyone can do it and I think that is what makes us so relatable. It is amazing when people tell us they are training along with us or inspired to start running because of our story. Those people really motivate us to keep going – and keep sharing.

What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

After having kids and focusing solely on them, I realized that I was neglecting myself and not setting the best example for them. They deserved better, and so did I. I decided to make a dramatic change. I am now 65 pounds lighter and training for my first half-marathon. I am a Sweat Pink Ambassador for Fit Approach, a Girls Gone Sporty Ambassador and I recently co-captained a team in the CIBC Run for the Cure that won the National Top Team Fundraising Award in the post-secondary division. I am proud of all of these things but, most of all, I am proud to be setting a positive example for my daughters by modeling an active and healthy lifestyle. I run to show them that there will always be someone faster and someone slower, but the goal is just to be the best you can be.  And you’re never too old to believe in princesses!

It’s race day! Today is the first of two races I will complete this weekend. Today is a half marathon and tomorrow is a full marathon, to complete Goofy’s challenge here in Disney World. Please say a prayer for me, and check out Twitter and instagram, (both @runningwithsass) I will be posting! While I am out running my booty off, you can sit comfortably at home and read about sweet Emily from Travel With Emily!

1.) How/Why did you start blogging?

I like to travel and found myself sending out lots of emails to friends and family describing my various trips.  I started my blog as a concise way to share my travels.  Along the way it has grown from recording my travels to sharing my journey to find my inner athlete, albeit a slow one. 🙂

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

My adventures and misadventures as I travel, train, race and take photos along the way.

3.)What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

Blogging is a way for me to be creative, and a place for me to document my life.  An added benefit has been the connections I’ve made along the way.

4.) What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

I would say my biggest healthy living accomplishment so far was completing my first half marathon.  I discovered the joy of crossing the finish line and realization that you can do anything you put your mind to.  Since then I have gone on to cross the finish line many times.

Good morning all! Who is having a fabulous weekend? This time next week I will be running the Disney half marathon. SO excited/nervous/anxious/going crazy! I am going to start packing tomorrow so I don’t forget anything. I have never run two races on back to back days so making sure I have all my “gear” (times two!) is going to be crucial.

Today I want you to “meet” a friend of mine. I am sure many of you already read her blog, and if you don’t, you should! Here is Katelyn from Chef Katelyn! I got to hang out with Katelyn at the Healthy Living Summit in Boston this year.

1. How/Why did you start blogging?

I’ve always felt that there was something “more” to life. Something creative and exciting. My sophomore year of high school, I discovered blogs and just started writing. I had no audience, no “category” that I fit in, no particular topics I wrote about. I just let the words happen. That one faded as more of a journal, and I started Chef Katelyn in July of 2010. The blog began as a food and exercise blog (mainly recipe- and shenanigan-focused), and eventually turned into a lifestyle blog, which is now becoming lifestyle and business-centric. I still talk about food, but I’m letting my more professional side seep out a bit more.

2. Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

Sassy, slightly serious, and full of positivity. I believe that my blog should be a fulfilling place; real, inspiring, and educational at the same time.

3. What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

I want to change lives. I hope that it already has. Every day, I write for me, but I also write for all of the people that are looking for a spark; looking for a starting point. Everyone is in a different place in their journey, whether it be health-wise, professionally, or in the love that they find (or don’t yet find) in the everyday. I want to help people be happier. Because all anyone really wants out of life is a little more happy.

4. What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

Well, I’m not sure if I would call this an accomplishment (maybe I’m just humble), but I’ve tried literally every diet on the planet, even a two-year stint as a vegan, and have finally settled on something that works for me. It’s called “ancestral eating”, and has helped me to beat a long-term depression I suffered from for over two years. That, in itself, is the most beautiful thing: Finding my happy again.

5. What is your blog URL and twitter handle

Blog URL:

Twitter Handle: @ChefKatelyn

Thanks Katelyn for sharing!

QOTD: Bloggers, did your blog start out as just a journal? Non bloggers, does eating right change your mood?

Happy Weekend! I hope you all get to enjoy the long weekend and don’t have to work too much! I am sure I will be working some on Monday but hopefully not on Tuesday. Any exciting New Year’s plans? LSU is playing in the Chic Fil A bowl so I can’t wait for that!

A fun announcement, I was chosen as one of Women’s Running Magazine’s Bloggers on the run for 2012! There were 12 chosen, and I am SO beyond flattered, humbled, and honored. I didn’t even know they were making a list, and the e mail I received last night was such a pleasant surprise, I can’t stop smiling! You can check out the article for yourself (link goes live 6 am EST) on their website. (You may remember I was chosen as a blogger on the run back in May)

Today I want to tell you about my friend Danielle from I got to hang out with her some during Wine and Dine weekend and she is super sweet, and an awesome yogi. Be sure to check out her blog, can’t wait to see her again in Disney in January!

1.) How/Why did you start blogging?

I began blogging a little over a year ago shortly after I completed my first half marathon and was training for my first full to document my training and share my race experiences.  I also wanted to start working on some personal growth goals and figured a blog would be a great way to hold myself accountable!

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

Up until now Live, Run, Grow has primarily been very running and training focused, but starting this January I’ll be going back to school full time (for 5 years!) for Physical Therapy and I’ll be sharing that experience on the blog as well.  Since I just completed my yoga teacher certification I also love to share yoga poses and tips for runners and athletes.

3.)What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

My two main goals in blogging are to use it as a tool to help keep myself on track during my 5 year journey in going back to school and to document my training and races to be able to look back on.  If my experiences can help and encourage others along the way then even better!

4.)What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

I would have to say that my biggest health living accomplishment is completing my first half marathon (my first race ever!).  Before I began training for that race I probably couldn’t even run a mile, but it was something I decided to do in memory of a friend who lost her battle with Leukemia and keeping her in mind really helped carry me through my training.  At the time I thought the race would be a “one and done”, but this January the Goofy Challenge will be my 5th half and 2nd full marathon!

5.) What is your blog URL and twitter handle

You can find me at or follow me on Twitter at @dnardi710

QOTD: Did you go back to school once you were already out like Danielle is doing? Share!

Good morning! It’s officially Christmas weekend! That means lots of baking, family, and very little work. What does everyone have planned this weekend? Going out of town? Family coming in? I would love to hear!

Today I want to introduce you to Caroline from She is a counselor who also runs. Be sure to stop by her blog and say hello!

1.) Why did you start blogging?

I found fitblog back in October 2010 (I think!) while on twitter one day, and started discovering all sorts of healthy living bloggers. I read blogs for about 11 months before deciding to start documenting my own journey. While I’m into exercising and eating healthy, I’m also a counselor, so I have a passion for reaching out to people in that area as well.

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

My blog is an exciting mix of my personal fitness journey, dealing with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (I was diagnosed back in the fall of 2004), recipes I’ve enjoyed making, and mental health as well. I view health and wellness holistically, and try to address multiple aspects of wellness in my blog (not just physical health)!

3.) What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

Blogging has been a great way to document my life, and I often go back to read old posts! When I put something out on the internet, I’m more likely to follow along with my goals, so blogging is a way to motive and push me towards the things I want to accomplish. Blogging has also gotten me involved in a great online community that provides support and encouragement, and I learn a lot each week from them as well!

4.)What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

This is tough! I’ve run 2 half marathons, which I thought I could never do because of having POTS. This is a huge accomplishment because I had a lot to fight through. I think that was my most impressive accomplishment because I didn’t think it could happen. Maybe my “biggest accomplishment” would be just learning about all the factors involved in wellness and learning how to manage each of these areas in a balanced fashion.

QOTD: What are you doing this weekend?

RWS Features #44

Good morning friends. My heart is heavy this morning and I feel almost….bad posting a blog post about things that just don’t seem to matter much after the school shooting events that happened yesterday. I have an 18 mile run on ta for this morning, and am not really feeling like running.

However, I want to introduce you today to Ali from Be sure to stop by her blog and say hello to her. She ran the Disneyland half and is doing Goofy at WDW in January!

1.) How/Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging for a few reasons. I’ve always been a person that learns more from “doing”, so when I began my social media MBA I wanted to have actual experience for my classes than just speaking theory. I also began my blog to hold me accountable. I had signed up for my first half marathon ever (Disneyland Half), and wanted something to keep me on track through my training

2) Sum up your blog in a couple of sentences:

My blog is a blog about running and traveling. I participate in races all around the US, and focus on both the travel and race.

3) What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging

I’d like to motivate someone to try something new with my blog.

4) What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

My largest accomplishment to date has been losing 30lbs through diet and exercise, and keeping it off! It was hard at first, but now I find myself choosing healthier alternatives instantly.

5) What is your blog URL and twitter handle?

My blog is and my twitter is @am588

Thanks so much Ali! Hope to see you in January!

Happy Black Friday! So who went out shopping this morning? I may be at a few stores as we speak, but more on that later. I wanted to share my Thanksgiving photos with you today but I left my camera cord at home #fail. I hope everyone had a great day with their families, and ate lots of yummy food!

Today I want to introduce you to Shannon!

1. How/why did you start blogging?

I started blogging originally to share my teaching experiences with others and connect with teachers in other parts of the world.

2. Sum up your blog in a couple of sentences.

I blog about running, reading, and teaching. Those are my passions, and I want to connect with other people who share those passions.

3. What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

I hope to inspire others with my journey as a runner, share great books with fellow book lovers, and let other teachers know about life in my classroom.

4. What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

I am 5’1 and back in December 2011 had topped the scale at 163 lbs! I decided I wanted to be able to run a 5k so I told my family. My husband laughed. Yes, he laughed. That is all the motivation I needed. 🙂 I ran my 1st 5k in February 2012 and have run MANY since then. Losing weight was not my goal, but when it started falling off it sure did add to that motivation. I now weigh between 125-128 depending on how much cookies-n-cream ice cream I have devoured! 🙂

5. What is your blog URL and twitter handle?

Thanks Shannon! Be sure to check out her blog and give her a follow on Twitter as well. Have a great day!

QOTD: Favorite ice cream flavor?

Hey friends! Guess what? I am in Panama City Beach, FL for Ironman Florida! My sister is racing this morning, and so we are here to cheer her on. It’s been a wild ride so far, first we couldn’t find the condo, then we found it and were very unhappy with the condition of the room we were first put in and they moved us into a much nicer/better one….and then the air conditioner didn’t work! So we went to dinner while the repair guy came, and when we got back we found out the news that….it really is broken and we had to move rooms…again!!! So we JUST got settled into room number three, at 9:00 last night, and then are up early this morning for the start of the race!

I will be reporting on how spectating went later in the week so stay tuned!

For today, please enjoy this RWS feature, Jenelle from Mile Twenty Eight!

1.) How/Why did you start blogging?

I starting reading other blogs and realized how much I loved hearing about how others train, struggle, succeed, etc.  I wanted to share my thoughts and adventures!  I also wanted to be able to meet and network with others through online groups (Fitfluential, Sweatpink)

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

Mile Twenty Eight is where I share stories about my training, racing, and any adventures in between.  I also really enjoy trying new products and sharing my thoughts/opinions on them with others.

3.)What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

I want to reach all types of people all over the world.  I hope to inspire them to keep training and stay fit.  I want to be that “down to earth” person that that has real struggles and success stories to share with everyone.  I hope to offer good advice, product reviews, and entertainment.  I also hope to meet many more people and learn new ways improve areas in my life as well.

4.)What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

I would have to say that training and completing my first marathon felt like one of my biggest healthy living accomplishments.  I spent a lot of time pushing myself further than I had ever run before.  I also focused on maintaining a healthy diet to supplement the hard training.  Everything was worth it in the end.  I was a marathoner!

WOW I can’t believe this is the 40th blogger I have done a spotlight on, madness! I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend. I board the Disney magic today for a week of fun in the sun. Don’t worry, the dogs are being watched at our house, so they are no doubt having a great time. I can’t wait to share photos and pictures with you when I get back! RWS will still be up and running so please come visit. For now, I want to introduce you to

1.) How/Why did you start blogging?

I started a blog when my family relocated to Maine almost 7 years ago at the urging of a friend as an efficient, convenient way to share pictures and stories of our life here in Maine with those we no longer had the pleasure of being with every day.

Then I met Amy and Jen and we started Mainely Running with a goal of motivating others to get moving ~ at their pace and on their own terms. With Mainely Running we hope to inspire others. We always say ~ If we can do it. You can do it!

Read up on our Revolutionaries and you’ll understand what we mean!

2.) Sum up your blog in a couple sentences:

Mainely Running’s goal is to motivate and inspire others to get moving. We offer a running class through our local YMCA to help folks get started and to keep them moving toward their goals.

3.)What do you wish to accomplish/achieve by blogging?

We hope to encourage others to set fitness related goals and to work toward those goals with support from us and from our Mainely Running community one step at a time.

4.)What is your biggest healthy living accomplishment?

Amy, Jen and I found ourselves looking for new outlets and new challenges after putting our careers on hold or leaving our careers completely in order to be home with our children. The challenges inherent in becoming stay at home moms brought us together initially. The challenge of running a mile, a 5K, a half-marathon and then a marathon kept us together and drew us closer then we could have ever predicted.

I think the three of us would agree that our biggest healthy living accomplishment has been finding balance in our lives and realizing that taking care of ourselves makes us better, stronger, healthier and happier mothers and wives!

5.) What is your blog URL
