Trip Recap January 2013

February 5, 2013 | Disney, running, Travel

Hi guys! Happy Tuesday. This is kind of a weird week for me since we are in Louisiana with my family while Bobby takes care of some business in New Orleans. You would think I would get a lot of work done not being in my actual house with distractions like laundry and dishes, but I am having a really hard time focusing here. I thought a fun picture post would be a good one for today, sharing some of my favorite photos from marathon weekend that weren’t in my race recap. We were in Disney for 6 nights, so a lot of other fun things went on besides the races themselves!

We stayed the first four nights at the lovely Yacht Club. Bobby had never stayed here before so it was fun to experience something new with him. We had a great room with a king bed and a huge balcony overlooking the quiet pool.

We hung out at Hollywood Studios Friday

Then picked up Karen and Jason from the expo and went to dinner at Trails End Buffet at Fort Wilderness. It was a fantastic meal with good friends and we went back later in the week!

On Saturday after the half marathon, we got cleaned up and headed over to the Magic Kingdom for lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern (and to stay loose for the marathon the next day!)

The next day after the Full marathon we went to dinner with Jen and Jeff at ‘Ohana

We had a great time with them as usual, and we were sad they were leaving the next day.

Monday morning we checked out of the Yacht Club and into the Beach Club for two nights on the concierge level. We called it a late anniversary weekend getaway.

Our room wasn’t ready so we ate breakfast and walked over to EPCOT. I love the proximity of this resort. Bobby even found a limited time magic photo op in Canada, but the characters weren’t there yet.

We ate lunch at the quick service place in China, before meeting up with Karen and Jason so they could eat in Mexico.

We texted Crystal and found out she was nearby, so we went over to France to meet up with her and Mary. The four of us met four of us first met this same weekend back in 2009. Crystal was running the marathon and the other three of us were not even runners yet. Too funny!

As we were taking photos, a random Japanese couple ran up to us and asked to take a photo with us. Sure! They handed over their camera and we took a picture. Bobby was laughing so hard, but he still managed to snap a photo with my camera, too.

After the mini photoshoot, we got a call saying our room was ready. We were dreading unpacking the car, so we just decided to go ahead and walk back and get that taken care of.

View from our room

Appetizers in the concierge lounge

We had dinner at the hotel at Cape May Cafe, and it was nice to just walk back to our room after dinner. The next day we went to Animal Kingdom with Karen and Jason.

We at lunch at Flame Tree BBQ (side note, we loved all the eating outside we were able to do in the gorgeous weather!)

We went back after lunch and spent some time just relaxing at the resort, and went back to Trail’s End for dinner. We were sad to leave the next day, but we had a great trip and I can’t wait to go back for Princess!

I LOVE the yacht club! That’s my favorite resort to stay at when at Disney. I love going to warm weather places for vacation, mostly because I don’t really have any winter or cold weather hobbies and I love being outside!

I’m like Goldilocks: not too hot and not too cold. We spend Christmas in the Rockies now, and I have to admit I don’t enjoy it like I used to. I’m used to Texas weather now so cold weather and I don’t get along, at all.

Love that you sported your medals afterwards… it’s something I wish more people did around larger events. You earned it. Show it off! Great photos.

Ooh, you guys choose some nice hotels to stay at! Those beds look really comfy. If I had to choose between vacationing in a place that’s extremely hot or cold, I’d probably choose hot, but then again, I don’t think I’ve been on vacation to someplace really cold.

Love all your pics! Shocker…but I didn’t even get to go into the parks one time (except for running through them) this trip! I was planning too the day of the marathon but one of my friends got sick so we didn’t go. I love vacationing in a warm place!

If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten C If you’re planning a trip to Florida’s Forgotten Coast, save this one. 🌊 #RentingTheCoastPartner

We stayed at Singing Waves in Cape San Blas, and it was everything we wanted in a beach getaway: beautiful views, plenty of space, and the kind of place that makes you slow down and actually enjoy vacation.

What really stood out, though, was Renting the Coast. They’re a locally owned, family run company that manages vacation homes throughout Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach, and the surrounding Forgotten Coast communities.

Instead of managing hundreds of properties, they intentionally keep their inventory smaller so they can provide a more personal experience for both guests and homeowners. They’re known for being accessible, responsive, and focused on making sure every stay goes smoothly.

If Cape San Blas has been on your travel list, Singing Waves is absolutely worth checking out, and so is Renting the Coast’s collection of homes along Florida’s most underrated stretch of coastline. ☀️

I didn’t realize how much mental space hair removal was taking up until it just… wasn’t anymore. Between games, trips, and everything in between, having something I can do at home in minutes has been a total game changer. The app-guided treatments keep me consistent without having to think about it, and I’m already noticing smoother skin that actually lasts. And yes — the full-body, 10-minute-at-home situation still feels a little unreal.

If you’ve been on the fence, Prime Day (June 14–27) is definitely the moment to check it out with $120 off. #BraunSmartIPL

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️
