Want to Beat the Pandemic Blues? Try These 5 Simple Tactics

July 14, 2021 | health

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a devastating effect on people’s health, both physical and mental. Studies reveal that some of its impacts are depression, physical inactivity, anxiety, and overeating. Observing protocols, such as social distancing that significantly changed how the world operates, led to skyrocketing mental health issues. Many people are still dealing with job loss, inability to achieve a life/work balance from working from home, and being cooped up in the house. This has brought out those “quarantine blues!” Here are simple tactics to help you beat the pandemic blues.

Socialize

When the pandemic hit, almost everyone went into a lockdown to avoid catching or spreading the virus. Many people lost physical connections from friends and family; virtual meetings were the new norm. Socialization continues to be essential during and the pandemic to prevent loneliness, and most importantly, maintain valuable relationships. If you can’t meet physically, use technology; plan virtual meetings, send emails, and make phone calls to each other!

Keep moving

Physical activity plays a huge role in maintaining good health. It helps with relieving stress and maintaining good body functions, hence keeping away diseases. One of the problems that came about with the pandemic was sedentary living due to the new norm of staying at home and working remotely. (I have been doing this for years already, and know I have to keep myself in check as far as my health goes!)

Many individuals have found ways to stay active during the pandemic through exercising from home. If you valued physical activity before the pandemic, keep at it and beat the quarantine blues. You can go for short walks or runs and do so with the best running shoes for shin splints.

Try new things

While staying at home for so long, it’s easy to get into a routine that can make life a little boring. Although routines get things done, incorporate new things into your schedule. Trying new things is among the coping mechanisms that can help you beat the pandemic blues and relieve stress. Give new recipes a shot, get a new hobby, or train online for something you’ve always wanted.

Eat healthy foods

Your diet plays a vital role in determining your physical and mental health; it can affect your mood. Although during a pandemic, particular foods like those that are sugary or have a lot of caffeine can temporarily make you feel good, they add to stress and physical unhealthiness like obesity. Incorporate a healthy diet in your menu that includes whole foods, veggies, and fruits, and avoid high fat and sugar foods.

Rest

When you’re most likely to be stressed during the pandemic, you might try taking on a lot of work. However, remember you can’t work when you burn out; get as much rest as you can. Take time out of your busy schedule to relax and enjoy music or watching movies. Equally, get a goodnight’s sleep instead of staying up late glued to your phone or the TV. The pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty, resulting in stress, depression, and anxiety. However, if you take the right action, such as accepting things as they are and making necessary changes, you will beat the pandemic blues. Tone your body at home, eat well, rest, and stay connected to your loved ones.

It will be YOU. 🎄 They don’t know it yet. But whe It will be YOU. 🎄

They don’t know it yet. But
when they’re grown and starting
their own Christmas traditions,
it will be you they mirror.
Your family recipes,
the Christmas songs,
the nostalgic smell.

When they think of Christmas,
it will be YOU, not the presents
that they remember.

You are their memories.
You are their magic.
You are their Christmas. ❤️🎄

So slow down. Stop worrying if the presents are wrapped just right, if you baked enough cookies or picked out the right cards to send. It doesn’t matter. They will remember YOU.
