I wish I could say I was doing Expedition Everest! I was unaware that it was the last one until after it sold out. 🙁
Next up for me is the IronGirl half this weekend and a 10k in May. After that, races are pretty sparse here in FL until the fall. Looking forward to my first Wine and Dine in November the most!

hope you had a fun race!

Wish I’d known about Expedition Everest! I wanted to do it just once but I didn’t realize Disney was getting rid of it.

I’m doing a race series out of Fort Meade for the rest of the year. There’s six 5Ks and two 10Ks, I believe. I’ve also got the Wicked 10K in VA Beach and my second Avengers Half in November. I’m super excited for the Avengers weekend because my daughter is running one of the kids races.

    • Heather says

      April 13, 2015 at 3:28 pm

I would love to do avengers!

I’m doing my first half on April 19th, Biggest Looser in Mobile. After that there are a couple of fun 5ks coming up in May, one that starts and ends at the battleship with a ton of activities planned for kids (one Max would love) and one at Bellingrath gardens that includes a 1k dog walk and after party in the gardens. After that I guess it planning out next big races for fall. Jazz half is on Halloween this year, so not sure if we want to brave New Olreans on Halloween day, any thoughts?

    • Heather says

      April 10, 2015 at 7:28 am

Love Jazz half! I think as long as you don’t stay around that evening/night you should be ok

I’ll see you at Expedition Everest! My wife and I will be walking it (she’s not allowed to run). Like you, I’ve never done this race and knew this was my last chance.

I am running a 5K with my mom tomorrow! I am really excited, its my first race since last summer. =) The following Saturday I am running a 10K. May 3rd I will being doing my second half in Pittsburgh with my sister and cousins!

So jealous of all your Disney runs! Running the princess half is on my bucket list!

I’m currently training for my first 10k on June 6, and I’m absolutely terrified

    • Heather says

      April 13, 2015 at 3:27 pm

      oh no why!

      • Tristin says

        April 13, 2015 at 3:34 pm

I’ve never run anything further than a 5k race, and I’ve been struggling so much physically since my baby was born. I’m hoping to use this 10k as proof of time for either the Glass Slipper or Princess half in 2016 (I want to do glass slipper, but I’m a little chicken). This race is the closest one to me that is certified, and it’s still 3 hours away. My oldest is hoping to do it with me, which would be nice.

        • Heather says

          April 13, 2015 at 3:56 pm

You can do it! Have you been upping your mileage?

          • Tristin says

            April 13, 2015 at 5:08 pm

I am. I’m doing a bridge to 10k app. The race is the first weekend in June, so I should have enough time to make it all the way through the program.

  7. Jennifer says

    April 10, 2015 at 10:21 am

I’m doing a 5k tomorrow that’s sponsored by a bar. And they’ll be serving beer at 8am at the finish line. Can’t wait! Then I have a 10k in 2 weeks. And I’m looking for another certified 10k in the SE (that’s easy to travel to) from north Florida for my proof of time for Wine and Dine. It looks like I’m mostly out of luck though.

    • Heather says

      April 13, 2015 at 3:27 pm

      hope your race was fun!

  8. Jen says

Can’t wait for EE! I can’t believe how close it’s getting!

  9. Rachel says

Sunday is the Strawberry Strut in Ponchatoula, you should try to do it next year! It’s 1 mile, 5k, or 10k and always the weekend of strawberry fest. I hear it’s usually between 100 and 200 people. I’ll be running it Sunday, probably in the rain!

    • Heather says

      April 13, 2015 at 3:26 pm

      oh fun!

I have a 5k tomorrrow (Angels Foundation 5k) and Im excited to run through angels stadium again! Next week I have the inaugural sunset strip half (think the hilly part of the LA marathon on sunset into West hollywood. that huge hill we ran down, we get to go up! eek!). then Inaugural Pixie Dust challenge!! and then a much deserved break until a 4th of july 5k and a Dumbo Double Dare before another break and the NYC Marathon, Wine and dine half, inaugural infinity gauntlet to close out the year

    • Heather says

      April 10, 2015 at 4:23 pm

Wow you have a lot of races! Jealous! I was so hoping for wine and dine this year.

I have one last half this weekend, then I’m done for a long while. I’ll be busting butt trying to loose the rest of the baby weight before June. Then I’ll start training for NYC.
That’s when the fun really begins. lol

    • Heather says

      April 13, 2015 at 3:26 pm

      oh wow nyc!

  12. Vanessa says

I have the Chickamauga Chase 15k next Saturday and then the Peachtree Road Race (10k) on July 4th in Atlanta – yeah, I know, it will be sweltering! Just like in Jackson/NOLA, the race season in North Georgia ends at the first of June and doesn’t pick up again until late September. I need to do speedwork. I’d like to break a 12 min/mile.

    • Heather says

      April 13, 2015 at 3:26 pm

      good luck!

I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just o I used to think dairy-free desserts were “just okay.” Like, fine in a pinch… but never something I craved. 👀

But then this little picnic happened—just me, my girl, and a sweet treat we both loved enough to fight over the last bite. 😅

We’ve been trying to be more mindful with food choices lately (especially with summer travel coming up), and I grabbed these So Delicious treats at Kroger kind of on a whim. The new packaging caught my eye, but it was the taste that totally surprised us. Creamy. Indulgent. No weird aftertaste. And no, we’re not fully dairy-free—and we still loved them.

It’s one of those little swaps that doesn’t feel like giving anything up.

And that? That’s a win for both of us. ✨@So_Delicious

🚨 Homeschool decision!! If you have been aroun 🚨 Homeschool decision!!

If you have been around here since Christmas time, then you know we pulled Emma Kate out of her private school after the first semester and put her in a hybrid homeschool for the spring. The main reason being we wanted more absences than the school allowed.

What is a hybrid? In our case, she went to a school all day 3 days a week, and we taught her at home two days a week.

It seemed like the best of both worlds, not having absences count since we were also her teachers, being able to stay home some, sleep in, and travel.

Well, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. For one, the school we sent her to ended up not being what we thought. We were told being absent wouldn’t be a problem, but it became clear very early on her teacher was not a fan and she was not kind or accommodating to Emma Kate. There’s a lot of other reasons we didn’t blown the school I won’t go into. (If you are local and considering hybrid feel free to dm me and I will share my concerns and grievances.)

Teaching your kid is hard. There were lots of tears and frustrations, and she got bored since Bobby and I also work from home/I’m not a stay at hoke mom. We couldn’t just sit with her all day and teach her with our crazy long hours owning two businesses.

It was tough to keep a schedule and while getting to travel a lot was great, she didn’t thrive on not having a routine and struggled with the randomness of everything.

She is also a very social only child who missed her friends and also wants to play sports for her school.

In the end while there were a lot of pros to hybrid homeschool, the cons outweighed them for us so we are returning to her old school in the fall.

Am I glad we did it? Yes! I always would have wondered otherwise and now we know. We will still be pulling her out of school some to travel in the fall, just not as much.

If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments below and I will be happy to answer the best I can! 🩷

Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Hav Tucked away just outside of Gatlinburg, Alpine Haven was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway—and then some. ⛰️

This luxury cabin has 4 spacious bedrooms (including one with built-in bunks that my daughter loved) and 4 full bathrooms, making it perfect for a family trip or group vacation.

We spent our days soaking in the hot tub with mountain views, lounging on the deck by the fireplace with coffee in hand, and playing pool in the game room.

The cabin even has its own private sauna and steam room—YES, really! It felt like a full-on spa experience right in the woods. ✨

And one of the best surprises? It has its own playground, which was a total hit with with daughter and such a bonus for keeping little ones entertained.

We were just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but honestly, we barely wanted to leave. If you’re planning a Smoky Mountains trip, Alpine Haven is that perfect mix of cozy, modern, and wow-worthy. 💫
