Why I’m Taking First Aid More Seriously

July 25, 2022 | health, injury

When you run a busy family, injuries and illnesses are guaranteed (Emma Kate currently has COVID, for instance). No parent survives the first five years without some sort of health emergency cropping up, and possibly necessitating visits to the ER.

Because of this, families like mine are taking first aid more seriously. Parents are gaining skills that allow them to deal with problems as they arise, instead of panicking the moment something goes wrong. I am in no way shape or form a doctor or medical personal, but I have been trying to learn and research to best help my family.

This approach to health is more empowering. Parents no longer feel like they are at the mercy of the system. Once they have the skills to help their children and family, they are more confident when things go wrong, and they know what to do. In some cases, they can avoid dreaded late-night visits to the ER altogether.

It Can Stop Infection

When a child gets injured, the risk of infection is high. Bacteria can make their way through broken skin and into the body, leading to secondary complications.

With proper first aid, you can stop this. Using alcohol or another sanitizing product on the wound and removing any dirt or grit makes it easier for the body to heal naturally. It reduces the risk of infections and secondary problems significantly, speeding up the healing process.

It Makes It Easier To Tell Professionals What Happened

There’s often a language gap between how parents talk about medical problems, and how professionals address them. Parents will often use simple language and won’t be able to explain to doctors precisely what happened, leading to slower diagnoses and missed factors.

That changes, though, when you have first aid knowledge. All of a sudden, you can communicate better with doctors and get your message across.

It Means You Can Save A Life

According to https://cprcertificationnow.com/collections/cpr-and-first-aid-certifications, first aid can save a person’s life. Knowing how to do cardio-pulmonary resuscitation keeps the body going until professional help arrives. It could be the difference between losing someone you love and keeping them in your life for decades to come.

It Makes The Pain Go Away

When you’re a parent, there’s nothing worse than an inconsolable child who’s in pain. They keep screaming and crying and you often feel helpless.

Fortunately, with advanced first aid training, there are techniques that you can use to reduce pain that go beyond just giving someone painkillers. For instance, you might learn how to set broken limbs or pop shoulder sockets back into place. You can also dress wounds so that they don’t hurt so much and that the pain goes away over time.

It Keeps Your Children Safe

Knowing how to do first aid is also a good way to keep your children safe, according to https://theimportantsite.com/10-reasons-why-first-aid-is-important/. Why? Because children aren’t always able to communicate their health problems with you. For instance, having more knowledge of medical conditions could tell you when your child is about to have a seizure. This can prevent them from having bumps or scrapes while playing. As a parent, it is ingrained in us to protect our kids, so what better way than to educate yourself to be better equipped when something happens? The more you know!

This past summer, we learned how real dog anxiety This past summer, we learned how real dog anxiety can be. (Ad)

After a really stressful week with a new sitter (who wasn’t a great fit and left her alone far too long), Dolly started coping the only way she knew how — nonstop licking. What started as “normal anxious behavior” turned into a raw wound that required a vet visit, meds, and constant care.

We changed a few things in her routine, and we also added NaturVet Daily Emotional Support Calming Supplements into her daily support. The difference has been incredible. She’s settled, sleeping better, no more licking, and truly back to her happy, goofy self.

I’m sharing this for anyone whose dog struggles with stress, separation, or big changes. You’re not overreacting. Their anxiety is real — and it deserves real support. 🤍

You can find @naturvet Daily Emotional Support Calming Supplements at select Walmart stores, and they’ve been such a gentle, helpful part of Dolly’s healing.

I was so tired of dragging around heavy, clunky ba I was so tired of dragging around heavy, clunky bags on my trips! ✈️

So I invested in the Carry-On from @hulkenbag! It’s lightweight, sleek, and glides effortlessly wherever I go. It has 4 pockets and opens from the top, so it’s very easy to grab things in flight! I’ve got room for everything I need and can fit all my devices, snacks, books, and a neck pillow seamlessly inside.

I always pair my Carry-On with the Schlep Stack because who has time to dig through a messy bag? 👜✨

Trust me, Hulken is a total game-changer!

The beaches of Alabama are the kind of place where the days feel slow, the kids are happy, and you don’t feel like you need a vacation after your vacation.

Alabama beaches in the spring just make sense.
