Ah, vacation. A great time to connect with family and friends, eat amazing food, and go somewhere new. Luckily, you can do all of these things and also not forget about your health and your workouts. Here are 5 tips for working out on vacation that have worked for me over the years. I leave for a trip in less than two months, so I’m gearing up for my workouts while I’m away!
1.) Don’t Stress out about it. You are on vacation! If you don’t work out as hard or as much, it’s ok! Just do what you can, when you can.
2.) Take advantage of your new surroundings. One of the reasons I love working out on vacation is that it’s somewhere new to run, with new scenery and places to visit. It makes the workout go by faster!
3.) Mix it up: If you have access to a pool, swim or tread water while your family catches some rays. Or, you could go for a walk and explore a new city, your resort, or the beach. Surf or snorkel in a tropical paradise. Play golf on a new to you course, or make new friends and play beach volleyball.
4.) Check out the hotel gym. Sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised at the nice equipment or a great view out the windows. It makes a difference!
5.) Workout early: Get your workout done before your day starts so then you have extra energy and don’t have the thought of exercise weighing on you all day. Then you can just focus on your family, friends, and creating memories.
QOTD: What is your favorite vacation workout?

Usually on vacation we do active things like hiking or biking. But if we can’t do that, I’ll try the hotel’s gym or pool. Or go out on my own. For example, the last time I was in Vegas I ran in the morning and it was one of my favorite runs! So cool!

oh how cool to run in vegas! Sadly, a lot of hotel gyms are disapointing.

I just love running in new places. To me it’s not a vacation unless I get some good runs in because I like enjoying myself on vaca, and I enjoy running 🙂
Good job on the run today!

Joe and I always walk more on vacation, exploring and trying not to drive… In NY we made it our goal to walk the entire length of central park, not as big as we once thought, but still cool nonetheless.

that’s very cool! You will do a ton of walking in Disney for sure lol!

I’m with you, I love running in new places. I feel like I get a better feel for wherever we are when I’m in my running shoes and not behind a windshield. I also always go to Jazzercise. Once you sign up in one location you can usually go to any other one for free. It’s always fun to find classes close to where I’m staying. Last time I was in California I would actually run to the Jazzercise place, take a class, and then run back. It was fabulous!

that’s awesome, I didnt know that about jazzercise!

My favorite way to workout on vacation is just to go for a nice long run, especially when I’m at the beach or the lake. So pretty and scenic! Plus it’s always nice to switch up sometime

beach runs are so beautiful but hard!

I like to run in new places too… sometimes it even gives me new ideas of places to check out later- coffee shops, restaurants, shops or beaches. But I definitely agree with the no stress!

Yes! Love it

Sadly, I haven’t taken as many long vacations to necessitate planning workouts in awhile. On our short trips, we’ve been able to manage to get in our regular runs and some additional walking. It’s enough to make us feel less guilty about our food and drink splurges! For Thanksgiving though, a lot of family all signed up for the local Turkey Trot–that was a great way to guarantee a workout and fun with family! This may become a tradition!

That will be a fun thanksgiving event!
