My Goals for Heart Health

 

Hey everyone! Happy February! It’s also American Heart month. Staples has started a campaign called #GetOutAndGo that I thought you might be interested in. In honor of this, I began working with Staples to come up with some fitness and heart health goals for this month. At the end of the month, I will check in with my goals and will be giving away a Fitbit!

To make sure I knew what I was talking about as far as goals, I checked out the American Heart Association’s website to see some facts. One of the biggest things I think of when I think of heart health is stress. In this day and age I feel that people are constantly stressed out, which is of course not good for your heart. Here are a few things that stress causes:

Aches and Pains

  • Headache
  • Backache
  • Neck ache
  • Stomach ache
  • Tight muscles
  • Clenched jaw

Energy Level and Sleep*

  • Feeling tired without a good reason
  • Trouble sleeping

Feelings

  • Anxiety
  • Anger
  • Depression
  • Helplessness
  • Out of control
  • Tense

Other Emotional Signs

  • Easily irritated
  • Impatient
  • Forgetful

I don’t know about you but I think that is a lot of scary stuff.I don’t want those things in my life, so one of my goals for this month is to work on my stress level. How do I plan to do that?

1.) Take time for myself every day2.) Delegate3.) Let things go4.) plan aheadphoto (35)I also checked out the AHA recommendation for overall cardiovascular health for adults and exercise. Here is what they recommend:

    At least

30 minutes of moderate-intensity

    aerobic activity at least

5 days per week for a total of 150
OR

  • At least 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity at least 3 days per week for a total of 75 minutes; or a combination of moderate- and vigorous-intensity aerobic activity
    AND
  • Moderate- to high-intensity muscle-strengthening activity at least 2 days per week for additional health benefits.

I decided to make my physical activity goal for the month a pretty lofty one since I have a full marathon coming up in March. My goal is to run 100 miles this month. I’m not sure I have ever done that. I ran 80 in January so I think I can do it! Staples has provided me with some gear to help me achieve my goals. I received a balance board, some compression socks, a foam roller, a Garmin 10, and a fitbit of my own to help me be more heart healthy this month.IMG_2508 (2)

Pure Bliss


When I was asked to try out Neuro BLISS, I will admit I was a bit skeptical. Typically when drinks claim to do anything other than satisfy your thirst, they tend to taste well….Nasty. I was so pleasantly surprised when I opened my first bottle of Neuro BLISS. It has an amazing taste (lemon lime maybe?)! Only 35 calories a bottle! And it’s supposed to elevate my mood, help me feel stress free AND help me concentrate? I can handle that!

Check out this infographic. 1,200 consumers were surveyed, and findings found that nearly 50% of Americans spend at least half of their daily lives stressed out (wow!) Most people agreed that a vacation would help them be less stressed (more on THAT later, keep reading!)

Ah, yes. Being out in the middle of the Caribbean on a cruise is DEFINITELY my BLISSful, stress-free moment. Whenever I “think happy thoughts” it’s definitely of this beach vacation! As a Disney lover and beach lover, a Disney cruise makes sense to me, and going to Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, is my favorite stop. A full day of sitting in the sun reading a book on the ADULTS ONLY beach is PURE BLISS!

Since we unfortunately can’t all take vacations every day, what CAN we do? Drinking Neuro BLISS is a great start. It has a blend of minerals and antioxidants as well as chamomile and an amino acid found in green tea that helps improve focus and relieve stress.  I could definitely tell after drinking this that I had better concentration on my work and didn’t seem as distracted.

Hanging onto the ledge

This is how I feel I feel! Like I am dangling off the edge of a building, holding onto dear life for the edge. What a crazy week, what a crazy day. We have one week of school left, and I have about a million things to do.
One teacher said it best by saying “when I teach it feels like the information is bouncing off of them and coming back to me.” It’s so true! They are retaining NOTHING anymore. It’s sadly useless. I am trying my best but they have lost it. I love them to death but it’s time for summer!
If I can make it to next Friday I will be so happy! Then I will officially be done! Then, I can start thinking about my cruise! I have a million things to do for that, too, but cannot even begin to think about it.
I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the eliptical and came home and did some arm weights. Tonight is Bobby’s early night so he should be home in about 45 minutes woo hoo!

I am going to go veg out so I can try to maintain some sanity. Hoping I have time tomorrow afternoon to get in a good run. Sorry to rant but it has just been one of those days! Soon I will be a much more cheerful person!
