I was contacted my ASICS recently to try out their new GEL-Electro33 shoes. Since my feet are way swollen and I can barely fit into any of my other running shoes comfortably, I thought it was a great opportunity to give it a shot since ASICS shoes typically have more room for my foot in the forefoot/toebox area anyway.
The first thing I noticed about these shoes were the three fun colors you can choose from. Of course, there are more important things when choosing a running shoe than colors, but it didnāt hurt that I was drawn to these so much! The purple and yellow immediately reminded me of LSU colors (go Tigers!) so I knew I had to get them.
From ASICS:
This shoe is one of the first lightweight, flexible shoes with pronation support, along with several new features to improve your running experience.
Anatomically correct deep flex grooves have been aligned to the joints of the foot. This innovative construction enables the shoe to recognize, adapt, and respond to the athlete’s exact load and positional change from first impact to toe-off.
ASICS lightest midsole compound has been reengineered to reduce weight while providing enhanced cushioning and exceptional durability. The use of seamless materials reduces the potential for irritation and friction caused by traditional stitches and seams.
My thoughts:
This shoe is definitely lighter than the ASICS I am used to wearing, but it still offers stability and support that I need as a pronator. It did take me a couple of runs to figure out how to best tie the laces to fit my specific foot (at first they were too loose and my heel slipped causing rubbing, but I figured it out and also changed my socks).
I always shy away from more minimal shoes because I need arch and forefoot support, but this shoe gave me that without being clunky, which is a huge plus! I felt light on my feet in them without sacrificing comfort. If you are a pronator who likes support but are nervous about trying a more natural feeling shoe, I think this option is a great āstepping stoneā to see how you transition into a lighter shoe. I recommend it!

Those shoes are so cute! Sadly, I still think the cuteness factor is what draws me to shoes initially. I’ve got to feel good when running too, right?

I haven’t tried these but think it’s a good idea for a lighter shoe to still have support. I’m wearing Newtons but with inserts because of my arches. I overpronate like crazy and need support in my shoes.
I have inserts too, and way high arches, we are so lucky huh? haha
I have never bought a pair of Asics before because they’ve never had my size at the running store. I admit that the reason I have been wanting to try them is because I think they are one of the prettiest shoes out there and come in such fun colors. ( I know that is not a reason to buy a running shoe though). When I last tried a pair on ( 2 weeks ago), the running store owner told me that Asics do tend to be a bulkier shoe like you had mentioned. Alas those shoes were not my size anyway. Some day I will get a pair…lol

Do they have wide widths? I have giant feet (size 10) and have to go wide for my running shoes. Add the that the need for major arch support and the running stores usually have only one or two shoes for me to choose from.
Yes they do! wide width, and I have SUPER DUPER high arches and need support and have worn asics for years. You can also put your own orthotic into the the shoe to help with arches (I do that sometimes, too)

Do you feel like these will be supportive enough for long runs, or are they better for shorter distances?
great question. I have only run 3 miles in them so far (#pregnancyproblems) but I plan to try to run up to a half marathon in them. They are def lighter than other asics but not “minimalist” light if that makes sense.

oh girl me too. I tore ligaments in both of mine multiple times playing volleyball and basketball. SO wobbly.
These are super cute Asics! I usually don’t think running shoes are cute. I have a pair that I’m rotating with my other shoes, but it might be time to splurge on a new pair. I’m not an LSU fan, but I love me some purple and yellow together. These might work for me too!
I’m a pronator and always get support shoes that can be stiff and heavy. I get soooo jealous looking at the neutral wall and all the fun stuff they have!
I think the Electro33 is an excellent, lightweight shoe that is perfect for fast workouts and racing. super cute shoes
