Emma Kate: Month 10

We are in double digits! I can remember back to other bloggers who have had babies in the past couple of years, and how fast it seems they approached their first birthday, and now it’s happening to me!

ek 10 months

It’s getting harder and harder to get her to be still and look at the camera for pictures. I’m guessing by twelve months I will just have pictures of her backside as she’s running away from me!

It’s still incredibly hot outside, but we still go walking with friends when we can, but we go early in the morning. Emma Kate still loves her stroller and will fall asleep if it’s during nap time. (Thursday I ended up walking 8 miles because she fell asleep at the end of mile 4!)

unnamed (17)

Sleep is going excellent. Emma Kate goes to bed between 6:30 and 6:45 and sleeps until sometime between 6:30 and 7:00. She takes two naps a day, and they are from anywhere between 40 minutes and two hours, with the average being an hour and fifteen minutes. She loves her crib, and we recently started letting her sleep with a light blanket that she loves.

unnamed (18)

The biggest thing that happened this month is right after she hit 9 months, she started crawling! (We are also pulling up to standing now!) It was very slow and calculated at first, but now she is all over the house and getting into everything! She gets bored with her toys but of course loves getting into all the things she isn’t supposed to. I have done a lot of baby proofing and moving things, but some things have to remain where they are, and it’s a good opportunity to teach her “no”. And she still loves here baby carrier, click here to see 3 different kinds of soft structured baby carriers. They’re really great!

unnamed (20)

Eating is going great, too! Emma Kate is fairly adventurous and will try anything that we give her. She still eats some purees, but also loves finger foods like bits of ground beef, carrots, puffs, and even broccoli! She also has learned how to feed Bella, so now they are BFF’s.

unnamed (21)

A not so fun thing that happened this month is about ten days ago Emma Kate got SUPER whiny and clingy. She is a pretty independent baby, so this was out of character for her. She wanted me to hold her all the time and she wasn’t eating as much as usual. It finally occurred to me to check her mouth, and sure enough, we have two more teeth coming in making it 6 all together. There was about a week of a very unhappy child, but she is coming out of it now and back to her happy playful self.

unnamed (22)

Much to Bobby’s dismay, Emma Kate still won’t say “da da”. She says mama and ba-ba an babbled all the time though. When I say something like “where is Bella?” she will turn all around looking for the dog.

Emma Kate Loves:

-Crawling and exploring

-Eating, especially puffs and banana/vanilla yogurt melts

– Playing with my phone

– Music/songs on TV

– Daycare and other babies

– Peek-a-boo

– Ripping up paper

Emma Kate does NOT like:

– Getting her diaper or clothes changed

– Being told “no” (ha. Who doesn’t)

– When I take something away from her she isn’t supposed to have

– When I walk into a room she is in, then leave

I have started party planning a bit, and I can’t believe she will be ONE soon. This little girl has taught us so much and challenged us a lot. She’s so happy and giggly and at such a fun age. Here goes another month!

QOTD: Did your kids get really fussy when they were teething? What is your favorite party theme?

Emma Kate: Month 6

Happy half birthday to my baby girl! This seems like such a huge milestone, and se is getting more and more fun every day. A lot has happened this month, so let’s jump right in!

Emma Kate loves:

making any and all noises

watching the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

petting Bella

playing with her feet

eating her bib/chewing on her clothing

when I dance, do jumping jacks, hop around, or act silly

IMG_3472 (2)

Emma Kate does not like:

sleeping in her crib

When she can’t reach something

being woken up from naps

taking her medicine

We now have two teeth! One popped up soon after she turned five months, and the other came just a few days later. She was a little fussy but took it like a champ. We have been consistently walking with her the correct way in the jogging stroller (no car seat) but not running that way just yet.

At her 6 month appointment, we got EK’s stats. She is 18 pounds two ounces (84%), and is in the 97% for height (no surprises there!) and 92% for head circumference.

IMG_3456 (2)

Emma Kate is in size 3 diapers, and is busting out of her 6 month onesies. She is in 9 month sleepers full time, and most of her pants are 9 months. She is eating about 34/35 ounces of formula a day, and the new thing that was “big” this month, was starting solid food! It took her about a week to get used to and figure out the spoon, but home girl really loves her some bananas!

IMG_3918 (2)

She is now officially in her bed full time. We had a bit of a setback when we came back from staying at my parents for a week where she slept in the swing, but we powered through and after a few rough days, she is accepting the crib (still taking SHORT naps) but she slept all night in the crib last night without waking up, hooray!

We are having a great time learning more and more about Emma Kate and can’t wait to see what the next 6 months bring. She is such a sweet smiley girl.

QOTD: When did your baby get their first tooth? Who thinks EK needs to do a diaper dash?

Emma Kate: Month 4

Four month update! Emma Kate seems like such a little girl now instead of a baby. It’s crazy to see how much she changes so quickly. She is getting to a more fun age where she interacts a lot more and understands more.

Everyone things she is much older than 4 months because her hair is so long! I swear it’s going to be down to her waist by the time she is two! Just like I said in month 3, EK is definitely a dramatic tiny human. When she decides she is ready to eat/sleep/do something else, she can turn on the waterworks in two seconds flat.

EK4 months old

This month, Emma Kate Loves:

-Trying to sit up. Homegirl wants to sit by herself SO badly, but always ends up slumping over to the side. She gets so angry and is mentally there but her body just won’t let her just yet.

– Gnawing on her hands. They are always in her mouth, and she is chewing away.

– This girl loves to giggle and things everything is super funny. I have been able to finally capture some on video and they are fun to watch.

– Talking, talking, talking. I just wish I knew what she was saying! She also loves when people talk and sing to her.

– Jumping in her rainforest friends jumper

– Being up high. On daddy’s shoulders, sitting on the counter, anywhere she has a better vantage point

– Sophie the giraffe is a new favorite for chewing.

-Eating. nonstop. I swear this girl is always hungry.

She does NOT like:

– Being ignored

-When you take her bottle away

– Getting her fingernails clipped (OMG. awful.)

– Her carseat

Knock on wood, our baby is still a great sleeper. I had to wake her up yesterday morning after she had been asleep for 13 hours. About once a week she will wake up around 2-3 am and want to eat, but I’ll take it! Naps are still very short. She naps for 30-45 minutes four times a day. We have tried making her stay up a little longer, but she gets super fussy after she has been up for two hours.

We started sleep training a couple of weeks ago and EK caught on very well and very quickly. I am considering doing a whole post on this if anyone is interested? It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be and has really helped free up some time for Bobby and I.

Emma Kate is busting out of 3 months clothes, and is in 3-6 months except for sleepers, she is so long she is now in 9 months in  those. We are in size 2 diapers, and eating around 30 ounces of formula a day.

She had her 4 month check up and shot yesterday and did so well. Didn’t even flinch for the first one, and fussed for maybe 5 seconds for the second one but no crying of screaming. I was so worked up for no reason ha.

emma kate 4 months

We discussed her spit up issue (as in she spits up a TON all the time and gets fussy about it sometimes) and decided to try her on some Zantac to see if it helps with the acid.

Her official four month stats: She weighs 15 pounds 10 ounces (77%), is 25.5 inches tall (88%) and her head is 42 cm (85%).

We started Mother’s morning out twice a week at church, and it’s been a little rough. She’s not used to sleeping with all the noise and light, so I’m hoping she gets used to it because she has been really cranky and overtired. But, it’s the only time I can get work done at home.

Also, I joined the gym and have brought her to gym childcare twice…but I will be honest I really don’t like it. It’s very overcrowded and has kids of all ages. I had a 2 year old pelting me with wooden blocks when I brought EK in, and it was just pure chaos, so I try to use it as a last resort.

We left baby girl for the first time last weekend while we went to New Orleans for two nights for a half marathon. It was great to recharge and hang out with adults and I slept for 9.5 hours the first night! Grammy and Grandpa watched her and she was a good girl so I didn’t feel so guilty. Smile I missed her but realize the importance of getting away, too. When I can recharge and travel a bit, it makes me a better mom, so it’s a win for everyone.

We plan to start solids after we get back from Disney at the end of February. She will be just over five months old then. We don’t want to start before we go out of town because it will just make things more complicated for the mine and Bobby’s mom who will be watching her.

I remember thinking back when Emma Kate was born that if I could just get through the first couple of months things would get better, and they have. Each stage has it’s own challenges, but she’s becoming more of a little person every day. I love my little nugget!

QOTD: When did you start solid food with your baby?

Emma Kate: Month Two

Guess who turned two months old on Monday? Crazy right?!? The first few weeks went by SO SLOW at times as I waited for her to get out of the newborn-crying-for-no-reason stage, and the needing to eat every two hour stage, day and night. Emma Kate has changed SO much in just a month’s time I don’t even know where to begin!

EK 2 months

I can remember when I wrote her one month update, there just wasn’t a lot to say as far as her likes, dislikes and personality. I realized at that time that well, she just didn’t do a whole lot and had not grown enough to have a lot of personality, but boy has that changed!

Here are some things EK Loves:

-Stretching (like in the photo below)

-watching the monkeys on the mobile on her swing and bouncer

-looking in mirrors

-putting her entire fist in her mouth

-‘’talking” to us

Ek 2months

She has also shown a lot of personality as far as her dislikes. I have a feeling we have a bit of a drama queen on our hands! She does NOT like:

-Being burped

-taking naps. ever.

-clothing going over her head

-bright light/sunlight

-when you don’t pay attention to her

-putting a pacifier in her mouth when she doesn’t want it

Oh, this kid. We are very fortunate with her nighttime sleep, which is good because day naps are a disaster. About two weeks ago she started refusing to take her morning nap, so she would crash and burn and get so cranky by about 2:00. I can usually get her to at least take one or two 20 minute cat naps, and sometimes she will take a long afternoon nap, but the mornings are a no go.

However, she has been going between 8-10 hours at night which is awesome. The problem is though, when she doesn’t nap well she is exhausted by 5:00 or so, and ends up going down for the night at 6, so the 8-10 hours still puts us at between 2-4 am. If we can get her to stay up a little later it would be awesome if she slept until 6:00 or later!

Emma Kate has been sleeping in her swing. She has been having a good amount of spit up, so sleeping in a more upright position has been helpful, and the motion really helps as well. When she is in her crib and wakes up, that’s it, she’s up, but in the swing, she can soothe herself back to sleep. The plan is to slowly slow the swing down until it’s stationary, then we can start sleeping in the crib again (and hopefully the spit up will get less and less as we go as well).

She started smiling at just shy of seven weeks, and now smiles all the time, I love it! She has different smiles and grins and it’s fun to watch her try to mimic my facial movements. She is just starting to touch/feel things with her hands open, where as before she kept her fists closed tightly. I think we are on the verge of discovering hands and feet! She figured out she can kick in her bouncy seat and make her mobile move, so she is getting there.

We went to the doctor for her two month shots/checkup early so we could start taking her out more, so she had them done at 6 weeks and 5 days. She was a champ and did really well. At that time she was weight 11 pounds (68th percentile) and was 22.75 inches tall(87th percentile).

She is out of newborn clothing and in 3 month and in some things 3-6 months especially if they have attached feet/since she is so long. She is in size 1 diapers, too. Everyone still goes nuts over how much hair she has. It’s so long and hangs down past her ears. I think I will be able to put it in a ponytail before long.

I can’t believe she will be three months old on Christmas eve. Because of the holiday, her update next month may be a little late. Oh, I am also working on MY two month post partum update, so stay tuned!

QOTD: What is your favorite “baby” age? I am liking this stage SO much more than the first month, but I also can’t wait until she is a little more independent!
