Easy Chili


Good afternoon! I hope everyone is having a great hump day! I have been pretty productive today. Bobby and I got up and ran 4 miles, our last run before the half. We were scheduled to do 5, and I even had my alarm set…but..you can’t hear your alarm if your phone is on silent now can you? We were running late so we just did 4 miles then went to the chiropractor, cleaned out more stuff at Bobby’s dad’s ate lunch, and now we are waiting for the AT&T guy to come because our internet is acting up. Don’t you love how they give you those windows of time…”Someone will be there between 1-5.” Not cool! We have to go BACK to the chiropractor later and then dinner with friends.


Ok, here is the easy chili recipe I promised. I kind of made it up, so you can change things to your liking. I think it came out good! This amount was enough for 4 large bowls.


-1 .5 pounds meat (we used ground sirloin)

-1 can Busch’s beans in chili sauce

-3 tsp of chili powder

-1/4 of an onion chopped up (I am not a huge onion fan)

-1 small can of tomato sauce (like the little mini cans)

-water (I used two cans worth of the beans can)



-chop up onion

-brown meat, then add onion

-drain excess fat

-put into a pot with rest of ingredients, simmer for 45 minutes (the longer the better)


We served ours with crushed multigrain tortilla chips and cheese on top. and served with bread. It was great for the cold weather we had for a couple of days!

Light the Fire


Good Morning! It’s another beautiful sunny COLD day here! The high is in the mid 70’s and the low tonight is 39! wow! To think 2 weeks ago it was 95 degrees and I was in a swimsuit. I finally got yesterday’s pictures uploaded so sharing time!

Bobby came home from the gym at nine and brought me a Smoothie King smoothie. How sweet! We went for a quick 3 mile run, and I wore a long sleeved shirt! After that we decided to do some cleaning and reorganizing. See, since we decided to move, we have started packing up boxes of things we don’t need right now and putting them in the garage. Well, we didn’t plan properly and it was all very disorganized and random.

    We had inherited a broken golf cart almost 2 years ago and never had it fixed, and we kind of boxed it in with our packing. Bobby decided to get it fixed so we had to move all the boxes to get it out, so we just decided to repack everything correctly once we got it out.

My girls don’t get along too well, so the fact that they were laying this close to each other make me so happy!

After we got all cleaned up we ran a couple errands including grocery shopping and came home where I made a new chili recipe! (I will post it at some point with a picture.)

After we ate, we decided to do some burning. In our packing and cleaning out we had a ton of old papers with personal info on them we didn’t want to throw away, so we decided it would be a good night to burn them in the fire pit.






I enjoyed it. it was nice because it wasn’t TOO cold outside, but the fire was nice and cozy! We stayed out for about an hour or so until all the paper had burned and it was dark and getting much colder!

Then, this morning, Bobby made us waffles!


They were quite delicious. I added a little pumpkin spice to mine. Yumm-o!

Today we were supposed to go to the gym and do more cleaning at Bobby’s dad’s, but he isn’t feeling well so we are going to stay here, wait for the golf cart people to come pick up the golf cart, and then we have a chiropractor appointment this evening to get together a “game plan”.” I am excited about this because I so want my running to improve!!!

Tomorrow will be 5 miles. Normally it’s a tempo run or speedwork, but since we have the half marathon Saturday it will just be 5 easy miles.

Mardi Gras RnR Race Recap!

I had a BLAST this weekend! The weather was beautiful for the race, I met my goal, and the whole weekend was fun. I feel like I can’t recap without telling some of the details of the weekend and showing pictures, so I hope yall don’t mind I add that in, too! Here we go!

Friday night we drove down and stayed at my parents house, Karen and her husband Jason stayed too. Then Saturday we drove downtown, checked into our hotel and headed to the expo!

we shopped, ate at the riverwalk then walked back to the room and tried to get some sleep!
the next morning we got up at 5 and at about 5:15 I heard sirens, and a band and looked out the window and saw a 2nd line band leading a large group of people already haeding to the start. We were still in the room getting ready! oops.

we walked down to where everyone was hanging out until we could get into corrals at 6:30.

it was a beautiful sunny day but slightly chilly, but it was great for running once we got going.

we were in corral 13 of about 21 maybe. you can see the start curved to the left, see the balloon arch? that was the start!

there was a wave start and they let a corral go every 3 minutes or so. we didn’t start till 29 minutes after the start!

when we got close I started getting pumped and singing and dancing and embarassing myself. Then it was pretty quiet, and the announcer made a joke about Drew Brees being there, and so i SCREAMED rally loud, WWWAAAHHH! DREW BREES, WHERE! I LOVE HIM!
some people laughed and some looked at me like I was crazy. It was funny.

We started out at a good pace, not super fast, but fast enough, and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep it up. It takes me about a mile to warm up but after that I felt great and we kept a great pace for us.
Karen and I were talking and I was taking pics of the pretty houses to post for yall. I love these old houses.

we hit the 5k mark at 33 minutes, which I was happy with because I ran my first 5k 9 months ago and my time was 33 minutes so I was stoked this was my split on a half marathon!

at mile 4.5 we stopped to take some GU and drink water so we stopped to walk a few seconds while we partook haha. That was when this guy stopped behind us and says “I have been following you ladies for over 4 miles, I am not a stalker yall are just keeping a good pace” Well, alright then! haha
we kept on grooving, and then Karen’s heart decided to speed up and go crazy so we stopped for a minute or two until it stopped. We hit the 10 mark around 1:08 and miles 7 and 8 flew by and we headed back downtown on magazine

about this time, I got an AWFUL cramp in my right side, like someone was stabbing me. We stopped and walked for a minute, then it went away. at mile 9 we got to the GU station, and walked for a sec while we ate that and got some water. Soon after, the cramp came back, and it was the most AWFUL pain! I could barely walk. I tried to stretch, change my breathing, it was awful. I kept apologizing to Karen! It went away after a minute or two and we were off again and I am happy to say it never cam back.

Mile ten is where it started to suck. I have no pics till the end bc I was hurting! My fet ached and I was wearing down. My longest training run was 10 miles so I was not surprised this happened at the ten mile mark! I looked at my garmin, did some math and realized if I wante to hit my 2:30 goal, we could NOT slow down!
I saw the museum of art ahead and knew we were withing a couple miles bc the Crescent city classic ended at the same place. we took a right and I saw we had to go around a lake, but it was a trick! when you ot to the lake you had to go RIGHT down a road, then back up THEN aroun the lake. What a tease! This is when Karen’s knee started hurting so we stopped for a minute, got some water, and then kept going.
We got to mile 12, and I realized we were only a mile away! I passed a girl groaning with every breathe and I wanted to turn and look at her and say “I feel your pain!” I was so close to my goal and was pushing myself so hard. We could hear the finish line music, so close! The last mile was TORTURE! We rounded a corner and had two tenths left and we started into a flat out sprint! We ran about a 9:20 pace and crossed the finish line at the same time. It seemed to go in slow motion. As soon as we crossed we yelled WE DID IT and hugged. I was SO HAPPY to be done I could cry! Not only did we reach the goal but we ran under it by 2 minutes. we ran a 2:28:07!!

We got our medals and our food, took our pics with the backdrop and met Karen’s husband and then went and found my husaband. He ran a 2:14. I was so proud!
we sat down and it felt so good to sit!

we walked back to the shuttle, then walked back to the hotel to shower and check out then we headed back to my parents for lunch, then drove back to MS and got home about 8:00. WHEW! It was great but so tiring. I am sore but not near as bad as after the Disney half! It was a great experience, and a very organized race, I highly reccommend it to anyone! Happy race day eve! We got up this morning, took our time, came downtown, checked into the hotel. Then we went to the expo and walked in the French quarter. Then we walked to the riverwalk and ate and hung out. It was a nice relaxing day. Now we are in the room winding down before bed.
The race is at 7 in the morning! I am getting nervous! I will try to remember to Twitter my time when I am done so either follow me on Twitter or cone visit the blog for Twitter updates. My phone will be in the room though so it will be a little while.

Mardi Gras Mambo!

Today is not very exciting, and I am about to head to the gym to run (I SO don’t feel like it!) So I thought I would use today to talk a little about the Mardi Gras Half I am doing Sunday! This is my second half marathon, my first was in January in the Disney half marathon.
The Mardi Gras half has been in existence for awhile, but this is the first time it has teamed up to be a part of the rock n roll series! Go HERE to check out the official site. There will be local bands along the way, and cowboy mouth and sister hazel are playing at the afterparty. The expo is Saturday. Our plan is to drive down to my parents and my friends Karen and Jason are meeting us there and spending the night there as well. Saturday we will go to the expo and check into our hotel, and then we plan to go to the Riverwalk that evening. The race is at 7:00 AM Sunday morning. early, but not as bad as the Disney half (5:40!) After the race we will go back to my parents for a bit then head home. I wanted to go home Monday, but I have no more days off for the school year, so back on Sunday we will go!
I am excited to race in my hometown area, get to see friends and family, and celebrate Mardi gras some more! I have yet to decide what I am going to wear, I may let you help me decide so stay tuned the rest of the week!

Happy Mardi Gras and a review

Yes yes I am aware that 99% of you could care less today is Mardi Gras, and that 85% of you didn’t realize it was Mardi Gras. When you are from the area though, it’s just one of those things that is a part of you. I miss it sometimes, and am sad I didn’t get to go to any parades. Anyone up for a road trip next year? I can play tour guide!!!
Ok I am getting off topic. The Mardi Gras 1/2 marathon is in less than 2 weeks. I know I have talked about not feeling ready, which I don’t, but I am so excited about the whole weekend anyway! Hanging out with friends, eating good food, what can be better? I got my e-mail to print out my waiver, and Bobby and I are in corral 13. I don’t know how many there are but I think it goes into the 20’s? But they are going to let each corral go at 1-2 minute starts and not TEN like in Disney. BOO!
We also got all of our final info about the expo, bands, etc. Being the type A person i am, I printed it all out, busted out a highlighter and went to town! Let the countdown begin! Tomorrow my goal is to do some speedwork, we shall see! Today i did 20 minutes elliptical and am doing some more strength training.

Ok so as promised here is my review of my runningskirts.com long sleeve shirt. They actually have (had) two kinda…one is softer on the inside (polyester) and it’s the one I have, the other one is the one made of lycra, the one I have was $58.00, the lycra one is $48.00. I know I know, expensive but SO worth it. I have worn this baby every time I long run in the cold and it’s SO WARM and has the nifty thumb holes to keep your hands warm. sizing is a bit odd, I am not a big person but I got a large. You want it to be snug, and the sleeves are TIGHT but that’s how it is supposed to be. I wanted the large for more length in the torso (I am 5’9″).
This shirt wicks sweat away from your body and really helps with the wind, even when running in super cold temps I actually get a bit too warm in it sometimes! You don’t have to wear a bunch of layers with this baby. I highly recommend it. I bought mine at the Disney expo. On th website I don’t see the one I got, but I am sure if you e mail them you can get more info. Here is the page: running skirts tops

I am going to wear my nice warm long sleeve running shirt from runningskirts.com tomorrow.It keeps me ssoo warm. I will take pictures of it tomorrow. I highly reccommend it! I am also going to wear my C9 champion pants I got at target. You will just have to come back tomorrow to see!


I have this poster hanging up in my classroom. I am big on motivational kind of stuff like that, and a lot of those types of things really apply to school. I have looked at the poster 100 times but today I REALLY looked at it.

Effort. You can’t become a better runner, spouse, parent, employee, without effort. I tell my basketball girls all the time that they aren’t going to just wake up one day and be a good basketball player. They have to work at it, and put in the time and EFFORT to become great.
I think the hardest of the 4 on the poster for me is the last one. Making the most of every opportunity. I squander a lot of opportunities to be better at things but especially my running. Sometimes I can just be flat out lazy. I am really trying to work on this. I can’t let the small stuff get in my way of me running/working out. Yes there are days I literally just need a break and can’t do it, usually when I am so mentally tired. But, there re a lot of times I am just being lazy! Anyone with me? So. Imprint this poster in your mine. Give your best effort. don’t give up or give in. Make the most of every opportunity. Achieve your goals through commitment and hard work. You can do it!

I did however reward myself today with McAlister’s sweet tea. I have been so good lately with my liquid calories, so I thought I deserved it.

On a workout note, it is pouring rain and 45 degrees so no run for me, and I am achy from my good run yesterday. But I am about to hop on the elliptical, and put forth some EFFORT!

Spring Fever

Today is groundhog day. Sadly, the little guy decided it would be fun to torture us runners with 6 more weeks of winter! This excites me….not so much. I am SO TIRED of cold. It was “supposed” to get up to 60 today…but what is it? 49! Now, I know to some of you crazies that live above the mason dixon line, that is not cold, but to me, thats cold! Especially when its gloomy and overcast, and you have had a long day, a long meeting after work, and a headache.
I know it’s only February, but I so long for spring! Pretty green scenery, nice warm temps, and longer days. I LOVE when it gets dark late. I feel like I have so much more time to “play” outside. It’s my favorite. So in case you didn’t figure it out, that long day with the ehadache and meeting and stuff, well thats me today. So here I sit, watching super bowl media day on the NFL network.
I have done some abs and legs, but nothing to constitute an actual workout, so I guess I will go do a few more sets, and pack my gym bag for tomorrow, and dream of this:
