Under Armour Visit Part 4: My Yoga Attempt

August 28, 2013 | fitness, health, motivation, Under armour

Hey guys! Be sure to catch up on parts one, two, and three of my trip before reading today’s post!

We left off with our amazing dinner out in Baltimore before heading to bed. We woke up bright and early for another jam packed day of fun, starting with some rooftop yoga.

better than yesterday

Now, if you know anything about me, you know just how inflexible I am. it amazes people that I can’t touch my toes. Thanks to scoliosis, I can’t bend certain ways, and much to the disappointment of my chiropractor, my hips are all out of whack and super tight. This makes yoga very difficult for Heather. Heather was a little scared going into yoga with all of these awesome ladies who do yoga regularly. Oh boy.

First, let me back up. When we got out to the pool area, we saw this gorgeous view.

photo (9)

There was a pool attendant who told us to go up the outdoor flight of stairs for yoga, and we saw more breath taking views.

There were yoga mats and towels (which are awesome by the way) laying out for us.

We met the lovely Camille who would be teaching our class that day. She was so cute and sweet and wasn’t too hard on me for being a total noob. Smile

It was a great class in the most gorgeous location, and I was sore for DAYS after! The class was really hard for me, but I stuck it out, and am #BetterThanYesterday because of it. Super proud of myself!

We were in a time crunch, so we hurried down to breakfast at the restaurant in the Four Seasons. It was heavenly. I had an omelet, bacon, and some fruit. So delicious. However, we had to eat fast because we were running behind for our spa appointments! That’s right, we were all getting massages!

photo (11)

I had the most amazing massage, and since I was already sore from our insane workout the day before, it felt wonderful and was such an amazing treat! I wish we had more time to explore the spa area, but we had to shower and pack up our things and get back to UA Headquarters. Maybe next time!

photo (12)

We headed back to Headquarters where lunch was waiting.

photo (13)

We had the privilege of meeting with some other teams and departments, and it was so much fun when they asked for our input on products and ideas. I love how willing they were to listen to us and ask for our advice. Before I knew it, it was 3:00 and time for my car to take me back to the airport, and I had to say goodbye to these lovely ladies.

photo (14)

Oh how I wish I would have gotten to spend more time with this one, the amazingly hard worked who made all of this possible for us FitFluential gals. Jami is such a pleasure to be around, and is so sweet and accommodating. She wanted everything to be so perfect for us, and it was just that! UA is so lucky to have her!

photo (15)

Look out for a post coming late next week about my thoughts and takeaways from this experience. I still have so much to share!

QOTD: Do you ever try a class you don’t do often and step out of your comfort zone? Are you as inflexible as I am?

Again, huge thanks to Matt Ryb for the awesome pictures from our yoga sesh, they are beautiful, even if I look super awkward in them!

Wow! Looks like an amazing trip.
I didnt know you have Scoliosis.
My daughter was put in a back brace in May. She has to wear it for 23 hours a day/ two years minimum. It has put a strain in her training to continue doing 5k’s etc but we are staying positive and I am doing my best to keep her motivated. She does Yoga stretching almost daily during her one hour she is out of her brace. It helps her flexibility and soreness.

mine’s not that bad, but it does hurt me a lot in my low back and I go to the chiropractor. I have leg length decrepincies and my hips are off bc of it so I struggle with running injuries!

I am not flexible at all. I tend to do yoga at home just so others won’t see what I can’t do. I haven’t been able to touch my toes since elementary school.

I bend over to pick stuff up off the floor, that’s typically the closest I get to yoga lately. I tried rowing and I didn’t fall in the river or get hit in the face with an oar handle, so I’m going to say it went really well!

Great job in stepping out of our comfort zone! It’s amazing how when we push ourselves we can discover things we’re capable of that we didn’t think we could do. A couple of weeks ago, I tried hot yoga for the first time. Was scared to do it, but am so glad that I pushed myself to try it out!

I am so unflexible it’s insane. My old boss and coworker took me to a hot yoga class. I had never done yoga, let alone hot yoga so I felt ridiculous and kept falling over and losing my balance. I was sore for days but it really was so relaxing and I slept like a baby the days I had the class.

We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we We didn’t set out looking for a “perfect” trip… we just needed a break from the noise.
What we found in Florida was something better than that. #ad

Our first stop in Auburndale was all about slowing down in the best way. We stayed in a cozy tiny home at Camp Margaritaville (you can also stay in an RV!). We enjoyed coffee on the porch, our daughter loved the pool and waterslide (there is even a splash zone for the littles!), and at night we slowed things down with s’mores instead of screens. It felt like nature + comfort + family time all finally in the same place. They have so many other amenities like mini golf, golf cart rentals, pickleball, a playground, cornhole, and more. Nearby, we explored the Florida Children’s Museum and had incredible food and drinks at Smith’s American Tavern and Black & Brew Coffee.

Then, we headed over to Fort Myers to experience a completely different side of the state. Shelling walks at sunrise, beach volleyball, pool cabanas, and the kind of Gulf sunsets that make everyone go quiet for a minute. Direct beach access at the Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers made it effortless to go from “let’s check it out” to toes in the sand in minutes. There were several restaurants on property, so we never even got in our car. That plus live music, fire pits, the spa, and lawn games made it easy to want to stay put and relax.

What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery… it was how easy it was to actually be together here. No rushing or overplanning. That’s the true Floridays feeling for me. Laid-back, a little unexpected, and exactly what we didn’t know we needed. 🌴☀️

One of our favorite family activities in Pigeon Forge because you can snow tube year-round, rain or shine, without worrying about the weather outside.

My daughter could do the tubing hill over and over, and the indoor snow play area makes it even more fun. Honestly such a good break from the summer heat. Plus, it’s super close to nearby attractions like Dollywood and several mountain coasters.

Getting in a walk or run when I can. Actually drinking my water. Sticking to a skincare routine instead of overthinking it. Paying attention to my hair and scalp instead of just throwing it up and moving on. Nothing extreme, just consistency in the basics.

I’ve also been using Mochi Health for personalized skincare and hair support, and it’s made it way easier to stay on track without guessing what my skin or hair needs.
