Disney Fantasy April 2013: Part 3

I left off my trip report with Palo brunch on our first full day onboard the Disney Fantasy. We were stuffed, and decided to head back to the room for a glorious nap. We ended up staying in the room for most of the afternoon reading, watching movies and just lounging around. It was the best way to relax on vacation! Around 6:00 we got hungry (go figure!) and sat up by the adult pool area and had a snack. We relaxed some more then got ready for Dinner. It was formal night!

Dinner was at the fanciest restaurant on the ship, the Royal Court.

We went back to the Tube for some fun adult entertainment before calling it a night, and found this guy waiting for us in our cabin.

The next morning, we woke up in beautiful Grand Cayman.

We ate the buffet breakfast, and then got in line for a tender boat to get off of the ship. We made it to land, and went to find a taxi.

Funniest thing, I went to grab a driver and saw the SAME GUY that drove us back in October. Hilarious. He got a kick out of the fact that we remembered him (he prays with his passengers before they get off of the van) and he took us to the public beach.

We rented a beach chair and umbrella, and I spent my time reading while Bobby swam and snorkeled.

We stayed about five hours, and I was starving. We didn’t want to pay for the expensive food on the beach so we headed back to the ship where the food was included, of course!

We caught a tender boat and were back on the Fantasy in no time. The ship looks SO MASSIVE from the little tender boat.

We grabbed some food and headed back to the room. That’s when I realized we were BOTH sunburned! I forgot to reapply and Bobby must have washed his off in the water. Ug. Not a good day to burn, at the beginning of a seven night cruise. We aloed up and headed to dinner.

We were in Animator’s Palate which is super cute.

Crush came and talked to us. Dddduuuuddddeeee!

Dinner was delicious, and after we headed back to the tube for Magic quest. This is SO MUCH FUN. It’s an adult scavenger hunt, I always end up laughing until I cry, and I ended up having to give Bobby my bra…again.

We had a blast and enjoy this game show so much. Our team won, but sadly we didn’t get a prize like I have seen on past cruises.

We were exhausted after a day in the sun, so we turned in ready to dock in Costa Maya the next day.

QOTD: When was the time you got sunburned the worst? Do you remember?

New Favorites

I may be a little behind with my love for a few things but still wanted to talk about the “new to me” things I have been enjoying lately!

The Walking Dead

I have heard a lot of people profess their love for this show, and honestly, I was a bit scared to watch it. I am not a horror movie kind of girl. The thought of flesh eating zombies jumping out from behind buildings really freaks me out. However, I gave it a shot and I am happy to report in my opinion, the “walkers” are not even that scary. It’s mainly about surviving in a post apocalyptic world, with a lot more plot than just zombies chasing characters around. The zombies are actually quite dumb which is more funny to me than scary. Bobby and I are midway through season two and are really enjoying it. Can’t wait for season 4 to start in the fall!

The Kill Order

I have said before how I really loved the Maze Runner book series. I was at Target browsing the book section a couple weeks ago and stumbled about a prequel that I didn’t know existed called the Kill Order. I hurried home and downloaded into onto my tablet, then finished the book in three days. I loved it! Great way to round out the series and explain some of the things that happened in the 3 books that come after it.

The Elite

Another book I talked about last year was The Selection. I read it super fast and hated I had to wait a whole year for the next book to come out. Well, it finally came out and now I am awaiting the third! This is a good beach read type of a book, very easy and fun. It’s technically a young adult book, but I love it. (Hey, I’m young right?)

QOTD: Read any of these books? Love the Walking Dead?

It Can Wait

Is it really that important? Too many people are getting into deadly accident because they just HAD to check that text/text while driving. Most of the time, the text is something like “ok” or even something silly that doesn’t need an answer. Not earth shattering things that have to be addressed immediately yall. I consider myself a very safe driver, but there is absolutely nothing I can do if someone else out there driving decides to do something stupid. Over 100,000 crashes a year involve drivers who are texting!

I am asking you all to take the It Can Wait pledge with me to not text and drive. The pledge states “no text message, email, website or video is worth the risk of endangering my life or the lives of others on the road.” Amen.

If you go to the website, you will see it’s easy to take the pledge and you can even share a personal story if you would like. There is also a badge you can download and put on a blog, etc. You can also use the #itcanwait hashtag when sharing on Twitter that you made the pledge!

It Can Wait Pledge Logo

Take the pledge, then put the logo up on your site. I am pinning it so you can save it from Pinterest!

QOTD: Did you take the pledge? I would love to know!

Inspire Others

My personal and team goal for the Under Armour What’s Beautiful Campaign is to help inspire other people, mainly through social media and blogging. I have had a few people ask me some ways they can do this, and I have suggested Twitter, Facebook, etc, but two of the best platforms people forget about are Instagram and Pinterest. I decided to take some photos in my Under Armour gear and add some motivational text. My hope is that you will help me spread the word by pinning them (or repinning from my board) so we can inspire beautiful ladies around the world who may need a little nudge today. I hope you enjoy!

Sometimes all it takes is one simple photo, a word of encouragement, or you posting about a workout to get people inspired. Don’t miss your opportunity to be a leader in this online community. Share your story, your words, and your experiences!

Bobby’s Duathlon May, 2013

On Saturday, Bobby participated in his first duathlon. This one consisted of a two mile run, followed by an 11.2 mile bike ride, then another 2 mile run. Luckily, the race was five minutes up the road at the community center. I shot a video while I was there, you can check it out on yesterday’s post.

We also lucked up with the weather, it was gorgeous and cool for late May, so it was a perfect race to spectate.

The race started at 8:00, so we got there at 7:30 so Bobby could register and get his transition area set up. The 2 miles were an out and back followed by a 11.2 mile bike lop then the out and back two miles again.

Bobby hadn’t ridden more than 6 miles on his bike since April, so we were both interested to see how he would do. The gun went off, and everyone took off down the road. Within ten minutes the first man was back. Wow! He hopped on his bike and was gone. I waited on Bobby then timed his transition for him as he got on the bike and left. About 40 minutes later, he appeared again and began his last stretch of the race.

I had fun watching everyone come into the finish, and I did a lot of cheering for strangers. I soon spotted Bobby and got some pictures of him coming across the finish line. He did it!

QOTD: Have you ever done a duathlon? Would you consider doing one?

Weekly Workout Recap: May Week 4

Back on track! I had a week of workouts that I am pretty darn happy with last week.

You can still join my What’s Beautiful team and follow my profile! Set a goal for yourself and join the fun!

I even had a couple of days where I worked out twice. Hoping to keep this trend up and finish getting rid of a couple of pounds from the cruise. Take a look at last week broken down by day:

Sunday: rest

Monday: 40 minutes stationary bike, body pump class

Tuesday: 3.1 mile run

Wednesday: 30 minutes elliptical, abs, hips

Thursday: 60 minutes elliptical, 60 minutes stationary  bike, triceps

Friday: 7 miles on the treadmill, back, bi’s, and hips

Saturday: 2 mile run, abs and legs (weights)

I am pretty excited about how hard I worked. Also, on Saturday, Bobby participated in his first duathlon (recap soon). This one was a 2 mile run, 11 mile bike, 2 mile run. Not only did I spend time cheering for Bobby, but I cheered on a lot of strong, beautiful women as well. I wanted to share the Under Armour #WhatsBeautiful love and motivate, encourage, and inspire others. Check out this video:

QOTD: Do you ever work out twice a day?

Disney Fantasy Part 2: Palo Brunch

Check out part 1 of this trip here. Then come back and check out Palo brunch!

We left off after the first night onboard the beautiful Disney Fantasy. We slept in the next day because we had Palo brunch reservations at 11:00. This brunch is all you can eat, and Bobby’s favorite part of the cruise. Not only is there a buffet selection, but there is food you can order from the kitchen as well. You get a complimentary glass of champagne or a mimosa as well. It’s nice and quiet (adults only) and they don’t rush you which I love.

Dressed up for Palo brunch

We went up a few minutes early and sat in the beautiful waiting room that Palo shares with the other adults only restaurant, Remy. Soon our server came to greet us and sit us down.

We had a beautiful table looking out the window at the water. After you are given your drinks, your server takes you over to the buffet and shows you every single thing and table you can order or get yourself, and answers any questions you may have. I even saw them taking plates of food back to people’s table for them so they didn’t have to carry it!

Bobby loves the crab legs, and the eggs benedict the best.

I had some lasagna and chicken parmesan as well as some delicious fruit, cheese, and pastries.  I like that they give you small portions so you can try everything! My favorite part however, has to be dessert.

Please note I did NOT bring all of this back myself. Our server offered to go up to the buffet and get me a selection of his favorite desserts and this is what he brought back for me!

I went up to the buffet and took photos of some of the food tables. They have samples of food you can order from the back like these pizzas.

Below is more food you can order from the back

It’s safe to say we had an amazing brunch and weren’t hungry for quite some time afterwards. Our server, Ivan, was wonderful, and did a fabulous job. The $30 charge is a small price to pay per person for such a wonderful experience! This is always a highlight of a Disney cruise for us, and we have considered going more than once on a sailing it’s so wonderful. I highly recommend Palo Brunch to anyone sailing with Disney

QOTD: Have you ever eaten at Palo? Are you more of a main dish person or do you love the desserts?

Ten years ago this weekend, I donned a cap and gown, walked across the stage, and graduated from high school. Graduation was held in the school gym, and then my parents threw me a big party after at our house. I still remember it like it was yesterday, but it also seems so far away.

Wow. Time truly does fly. Being such a sentimental person, this is so bittersweet for me. There are things about high school I miss SO MUCH (not much responsibility, sports, hanging out with friends non stop, etc.) But there are things I wouldn’t go back to for anything (drama, curfews, wanting to do my own thing). I flipped through my senior memories book yesterday, and it was a fun trip down memory lane. Senior year was a blast in a lot of ways, especially at the end when everyone is SO excited for the future. We had our senior trip, counting down the days to graduation, and looking forward to going to college and being “adults” with “freedom”. Oh boy.

mom decorated my car the last day of school

We thought we were so big and bad, taking on the world, leaving childhood behind. A lot of people say they wish they knew the future, but I for one am glad I didn’t know everything the next ten years would hold. I think I would have been scared out of my mind! There is definitely a reason God doesn’t reveal the whole picture to us in the beginning, most of us would run away screaming.

I am no longer the wide eyed 17 year old who thought high school, the “worst” part of my life was over. Sometimes I wish I could go back and do it again knowing what I know now. I would tell myself to not take everything so seriously, and that even though it seems like it, the “big things” I thought were a huge deal would be very small in the grand scheme of things, so let it go. I made a lot of mistakes, and then made the same ones again. I laughed, I loved, I cried. I got home sick, I enjoyed my freedom, and I grew up.

My picture table at graduation

I look back at my senior memory book where I filled in blanks such as “plans after college”. I wrote down law school. This makes me laugh. I am married to an attorney. I thought I would graduate college, get married, go to more school, and my plan was to have my first baby at 25. I laugh some more. I DID get married right out of college, but I am nearly 28 with no kids in sight, and no advanced degree. I am totally ok with this.

mom and I right before graduation

There is SO much I didn’t know then, and even more I feel I don’t know now. But one thing I can say as I look back over the past ten years is that God was with me the whole time. There have been many days when I felt alone, and that things were never going to get better. Days when I thought my little world was over, and I couldn’t possibly face another day. Even though I had to drag myself through some days, weeks, months, and even years, I have never done it alone. It is my prayer as I look ahead to the next ten years, that I will use my past experiences to help myself and others get through the next hard time. I hope to remember God’s faithfulness and grace as I navigate life.

My page from the graduation program. “Be enthusiastic in your work, and think with your heart.”

I hope I never lose sight of that goofy 17 year old girl with the world in front of her with so many plans and dreams in her heart. She may have been naïve, but on that night she took home a brand new diploma she was right about something. There is so much yet to be discovered and learned, and with my family and God by my side, I don’t have to go through it alone.

Cheers to the class of 2003. Smile

QOTD: What are your thoughts on your high school self vs. now? When did you graduate?

My IT Band is Angry

Well friends, I have tried to ignore it, but for the past few days my IT band has been very angry at me.

I am not 100% sure what sparked this anger since I haven’t been running, but I think my muscles have weakened in my hips with my “break” in my training, leading to the aggravation.

So, this is what I have been doing…following my own advice and partaking in some IT Band Stretches. I have been stretching, foam rolling, and massaging (and praying!) the pain away. So far…it’s still there. It’s not bad, and honestly it doesn’t even hurt while I’m running, just after. I know I spoke of my Dumbo training plans the other day, but I think I may put them off another week.

It’s frustrating, I have been doing so well on the injury front being so careful NOT to overuse my body, that it didn’t even occur to me that on the OTHER end of the spectrum (letting my muscles get weak) could be just as harmful. You live you learn right?

The rest of this week I will be cross training and doing LOTS of yoga and stretching. There is no excuse for me to not get in a good calorie burn because I am taking it easy on the run. This girl is staying motivated, whatever it takes!

QOTD: Ever have IT band woes? What about another injury? How do you still get in your burn?

Beauty Defined

This post is sponsored by Under Armour through FitFluential

I participated in a Twitter chat Monday night put on by Fitfluential and Under Armour.

We were talking specifically about the #WhatsBeautiful campaign, and how we can inspire, motivate and challenge other women. We talked about true beauty, and it got me to thinking about what beautiful really means. Then, I noticed one of the challenges on the Under Armour What’s beautiful site is asking us to define Beauty, so I thought a vlog was in order! I would love to hear your thoughts.

QOTD: What is true beauty to YOU?
