Weekly Workout Recap…yeah…

So on Sunday I typically do a weekly workout recap…but I literally haven’t worked out a single time this week! This hasn’t happened in a very long time, but I knew in order to get well I needed to rest and not prolong my cold.

I feel SO much better, but can’t get rid of this nasty cough. I have been sleeping sitting up all week and still sound like a frog when I talk.

I am hoping to go for a long power walk tomorrow then lift weights Monday. I really am ready to get back into the swing of things and miss the gym!

QOTD: how long do you rest when you are sick?

Baltimore Running Festival Expo

This time last weekend I was running a half marathon! It was such a whirlwind trip, but also SO much fun.

I flew straight from vacation in Orlando up to Baltimore for the Baltimore running festival, and a car picked me up at the airport at 3:00. They brought me to the Hilton, where I would be staying for the night. My room was ready, and I had a great view of the marathon start line, the baseball stadium, and if I looked in the very left corner I could see the football stadium.

photo 3 (6)

I headed over to the expo, as I was told it was next door. I didn’t even have to go outside which was nice because it was cold! I left Orlando and it was in the upper 80’s, so my body was VERY confused.

photo 4 (4)

The expo was very organized, they had a section for people who had already registered to pick up their bib, and then they sent us downstairs to get our bag and shirt. I LOVE the Under Armour shirts. They are SO silky and soft, and a very fun color.

photo 4 (5)

They had a big course map at the expo, which really did me no good since I knew where nothing in Baltimore was. I didn’t even know where the start line was! I assumed I would just follow people on race morning. ha.

photo 1 (8)

There was a big section for official merchandise, and they had some really cute stuff. I went on through out to see the other vendors. It was a smaller expo compared to the ones I am used to with Disney or Rock n roll, but it was organized, and had some familiar booths.

photo 2 (7)

At the end there was a huge Under Armour section with a great selection of merchandise.

photo 3 (7)

I was wearing my UA speedform shoes, and had several people ask me about them, and I was happy to share how much I love them! Overall the expo was well run and I was able to get in and out without any problems or long lines.

I headed out after that, I was meeting Jami from under Armour for dinner, and we went to the cutest little place called Live 2 Eat. It was adorable, and had the most AMAZING food. If you live in the area, you don’t want to miss this gem.

photo 1 (9)

We shared delicious risotto balls for appetizers. I also had some great baked chicken for my meal that I devoured before taking a picture.

photo 2 (8)

We shared fudge like chocolate cake with delicious ice cream. We were stuffed. It was getting late, and we had to race in the morning! I think I may have fallen asleep before my head even hit the pillow, but I slept wonderfully in the comfy beds.

Be on the lookout for my race recap on Monday!

QOTD: Do you eat dessert the night before a race?

Disclosure: My friends at Under Armour sent me up to Baltimore to run this race, and covered my airfare, hotel, and race registration. However, all opinions are my own.

Pain in the Butt

Literally! Yesterday I got my first steroid shot…right in the rear! Ouch! Even for someone with quite the fleshy backside like myself, that sucker hurt! Luckily only for a few minutes.

Shameless plug, don’t forget to enter my giveaway and order from my Thirty-One party! Make great Christmas gifts!

So, yesterday morning I still felt awful and could. not. stop. coughing. So I finally went to the doctor on day six. She isn’t 100% sure if it’s viral or an infection, so to avoid having to take antibiotics just yet I got the steroid shot and if I’m not better by Monday, antibiotics it will be. I also got some awesome cough suppressant and decongestant I am hoping will help.

I haven’t been this kind of sick in a LONG time, but it’s not surprising considering I was in Disney for a week, then, exhausted, flew to Baltimore and ran a rainy chilly half marathon then got back on a plane. Just hoping I’m well before I get BACK on a plane next week!

Did I forget to mention? I am sailing on a two night cruise with my boss next weekend! The newly re-imagined Disney Magic is going to be sailing out of Miami, and she was invited and is bringing me along to experience it. I can’t wait! I have several clients sailing on the Magic in the next year so I know they can’t wait to see pictures of all the new stuff, and I can’t wait to share it all with you.

Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2013 Race Recap

On October 5th, I was able to run my very first runDisney Tower of Terror ten miler. It was a night race, and it didn’t start until 10:00. Yikes. Remember, I am like an old person, I go to bed quite early. The LSU game came on at 7:00, so we spent an hour at ESPN watching the game before going back to our room at the Boardwalk, changing clothes and walking over to Hollywood Studios for the race. (We decided to stay at Boardwalk for this very reason).

Hidden Mickey!

photo 3 (5)

I loved my Cruella costume, and I got a ton of compliments and shout outs on the race course! The arm sleeves got very warm, but oh well.

As soon as we arrived, I ran into some friends, then hunted down Team runDisney for a group photo. There were a lot more of us there than I realized! it was great chatting with everyone.

I also got to meet Lesley, who made my tutu for me. She was super sweet, and has started making tutu’s as a side business.

photo 2 (5)

Soon they were calling for everyone to get into their corrals. We headed into C and someone offered to take a photo of us after they saw us struggling with a sad looking selfie.

photo 1 (5)

We had walked a good ways to get to the start line, but I ran into Kristen and we chatted until the race started so it didn’t seem long at all.

photo 1 (3)

I love starting line fireworks. So pretty and adrenaline pumping!

Carissa and Rudy counting us down in adorable costumes.

photo 2 (4)

Our corral made it up to the start, we got a shout out from Carissa, and we were on our way through the twilight zone!

photo 4

It took me awhile to get into the groove. I had been eating restaurant food for days, and walked around the parks for three days already, so I was feeling sluggish. I finally felt better by time we got to Animal Kingdom and saw some cool looking stilt walkers.

photo 3 (1)

Watch out for the giant spider!

photo 2 (1)

I had to stop and get this picture for my boss. The queen is her favorite. Off with their heads!

photo 2 (2)

We headed back in the direction we had already come, and it was then that I realized just how many people were running. Look at all the people on the left side! (I’m on the right next to the guy in the green shirt). SO cool to be in the same place at the same time with so many people with the same passions as me, Disney and running.

photo 1 (2)

photo 3

We headed towards the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, and I was curious how this “trail” portion was going to go. For the most part it was ok, although my ankles did not like the huge rocks so we went really slow. There was one portion that had zero lights and I got really nervous not knowing where I was stepping, but other than that it was well lit. We ran around the track and saw these guys. They told us they liked that our bibs because they had the number 13 in them haha.

photo 3 (4)

There was one guy wandering around the track dragging his shovel, cracked me up. I love it.

I had to go to the bathroom since the race started and didn’t run into the woods like Bobby before the race started, so we took a quick stop here. It was so nice to pee in “real” bathrooms along the race course.

Soon we were going into Champion Stadium. It was nothing like running through the stadium at Disneyland, sadly not very many spectators were there. However, I had to remind myself it was late at night and most sane people were probably in bed already.

photo 2

This next photo was my favorite of the whole race. After posing with these guys, I went to walk off and one of them grabbed my shoulder and wouldn’t let me go! I started screaming that I had to finish the race so he’d better let go. They were SO in character and did a great job!

photo 3 (2)

Next we ran under the Hollywood Studios sign, if you look closely you can see a villain yelling at us from atop the sign.

Into Hollywood Studios we went, and I knew we were close! I stopped with this guy for my dad. He loves him some Mike.

photo 5

Bobby’s photo did not come out below. One bad thing about night races.

photo 4 (2)

We passed the Sorcerer’s hat, went around a couple more corners, and then we were at the finish line. We crossed in 1:52, but the race seemed to go by so much faster than that.

We got our medals and had to walk FOREVER to get to the gear check area at Indiana Jones.

photo 4 (1)

We walked back towards the hat and I found this lovely lady.

photo 3 (3)

We were really tired and ended up not staying long at the Villain’s bash. Most people were just sitting around, and I didn’t really want to ride or eat or drink anything right after running a sweaty race.

photo 1 (4)

We left about 1:45 and made the long trek back to the Boardwalk and crashed. After showers of course.

I LOVE my new bling, it glows in the dark and the elevator moves up an down. Good job runDisney.

photo 2 (3)

Overall thoughts:

-LOVED the distance. Long enough to be a challenge but short enough to not feel like death.

-I thought the on course entertainment and amount of characters was very good. Loved seeing ones that aren’t normally out and about, and the lines were not very long.

-The course going through WWOS…meh. I wish it went through Animal Kingdom instead, would be more entertaining, and safer than the trail to WWOS.

-Post race party, not sure what I was expecting but maybe I was just too tired to enjoy it. The lines for characters were super long and we only saw two of them, food and alcohol had to be bought, and I was just flat out tired.

-The bling is awesome, love this medal, and the race shirt design was cool. Was bummed the “I did it” shirt you can buy at the official merchandise table was long sleeved. it’s the first time EVER I haven’t bought the shirt. I just get no use out of LS, and wish they would give us an option of both.

-I think having more and smaller corrals helped. I never felt crowded at all, and am so glad runDisney listened to the runners to make the course more safe and enjoyable!

-Didn’t like I had to walk so far to get my gar check bag. I just wanted to sit down! Must be somewhere else they can put it? Minor detail.

-Would I do this race again? YES! I had a really great time just having fun with it and felt it was well organized. Two thumbs up, which means a lot coming from someone who does not like to stay up late for anything!

October Look Back to 2012

These are always fun posts to write, and I can honestly say I am SO glad I am not in the same boat I was in at this time last year. While I do have a cold, I am not near as sick as I was last October!

photo (10)

Never thought I would end up in urgent care two hours after this photo was taken.

We got off a Disney cruise and I was very sick and nauseated. I ran a half marathon the next day, and ended up in urgent care. Then I ended up having stomach issues that lasted until Christmas, so last fall was a difficult time for me. VERY glad that is over with! I can honestly say though when all of that was going on, it felt like it was NEVER going to end. I felt helpless and defeated, and it really taught me not to judge other people when it comes to illness, because you just don’t know what they are going through or how one sickness can affect someone else differently than you.

Not sure if ANY of that made sense, hoping it did! Anyway, I will take a cold any day over some things other deal with and what I was dealing with last year. We did however have a good time on our cruise last October with my parents, and I will never forget our jeep excursion “experience” through Costa Maya in the pouring rain and driving though enormous mud puddles to get back to the ship.

QOTD: What is something you did or were doing this time last year you are glad you are NOT doing this year?

Still Sick

Hey guys I’m still sick. I finally made it home last night after being gone 11 days, and went straight to bed. Was hoping I would wake up this morning feeling better but no such luck.

I apologize for two days with. No real posts, hoping I feel well enough later to get one written for tomorrow. Have a great Monday everyone.

Under the weather

Hey guys, no real post today. On the plane coming home yesterday my throat started hurting, then I started aching, and now I feel like crap. I haven’t been sick like this in awhile, so I went straight to bed and didn’t even turn on my computer. Hopefully I feel better today and can blog for tomorrow!

I had a great time in Baltimore and can’t wait to share!

Number 21

Today is my first half in Baltimore, my 21st half total. It’s going to be a tough one and probably cold and rainy, but I am excited to experience something new! I fly home this afternoon after the race then the blog will get back to normal (including my Tower of a Terror recap!)

Here goes nothing!

QOTD: have you run a race in the rain?

Back to Baltimore

Guess what? I am headed back to Baltimore today! Yup, hopping a plane from Orlando and headed up there for one day to run a half marathon with Under Armour as part of the Baltimore running festival.

Under Armour is one of the sponsors of the race, and they invited me up to run. So, poor Bobby will be driving home from Disney alone while I take Magical express to the airport this morning! I am so excited and can’t wait to share the experience with you.

As always I will be posting on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and will do a full race recap after. It’s just a quick trip, but I am stoked none the less.

Let me give you some fun facts about this race:

-VIP section for Under Armour employees

-Post race yoga

– A set up at the event so people can get more familiar with Under Armour

-Held in Under Armour’s backyard in Baltimore

-over 30,000 runners come to Baltimore for the festival

-Tough, hilly, (but fun!) course.

Be sure to follow the Baltimore running festival on Facebook for more information! There are a FEW half and full entries available at the expo if you still want to run!
