Spring has Sprung!!

It’s official! The grass is getting greener overnight, our bradford pear trees are blooming, and it was 76 and sunny today!
see all the white trees?!

I didn’t workout today because I met my friend for an early dinner. We went to Sweet Peppers Deli and got to eat outside at the outdoor mall, it was fabulous and relaxing!

we talked for two hours, and then I did a little browsing in some stores after she left. It was really nice and relaxing after a stressful day. I had a stressful confrontation with someone at the end of the school day and it really stressed me out. SO GLAD tomorrow is FRIDAY!
Hoping to get a run in tomorrow afternoon and then Saturday I go down to NOLA and my mom and I leave Sunday! I hope everyone had a good afternoon! I may go do some yoga!

Sun and snakes

Yes, you read the title right, sun and SNAKES! First of all, the sun. It came out today and I got to run outside! I did 2 quick miles and it was 76 degrees, hot for running! It felt good to stretch out and go though.
yeah this didn’t come out so good

so pretty

You know you ran hard when your face looks like this after a run

ok so I know you are all waiting for me to move on to the snakes part. Well, I HATE snakes. With a very great passion. I do not understand why God created these disgusting creatures! I refuse to trail run by myself in the spring/summer, mainly because of snakes.
The other day when I was running, I happened to look down, and I stepped about FOUR INCHES away from a snake in the road UUGGGG it totally freaked me out and I thought I was going to throw up and pass out all at the same time. It wasn’t a huge snake, but he would have at least TRIED to eat me…UG. Now I am very paranoid and a constantly looking at the ground for snakes!! This make me think back to the post I wrote on the dangers of running, and I think this definitely falls into that category!
So, as the weather gets warmer, be careful and cautious of creatures coming out! YUCK!

So apparently I have gone over my bandwidth limit with photobucket. Luckily, my month resets tomorrow so all will be back to normal then, so no worries. does anyone know of a picture uploading site that gives you more than 10 GB of bandwidth a month, that is FREE?!?

oh and by the way…it’s POURING outside. so yuck! At least it’s not cold. I am wearing a skirt and sandals today!

I was at the store today and they finally started carrying Oikos greek yogurt, which I was told I must try (I have been eating dannon and chobani.) Well, I found it, but it was $2.00 a container. yikes! So that led me to today’s topic. The cost of eating healthy. How do you do it?
There are a lot of things i would love to buy organic/more healthy but it’s way more expensive than the “regular” stuff. For people on a strict budget such as me and my husband, it has been kinda hard! Does anyone have any tips or tricks? Of course if I see something on sale I buy in bulk, and there are some things that just have to be occasional treats unfortunately. I LOVE fresh market, but everything in there is crazy expensive, so we go there about once every 6 weeks and splurge on a few things that are healthy that we really love.
Does anyone out there have any tips/tricks or hints?

SO my run didn’t happen. I had to go to the grocery store to get food for tonight and it is POURING down rain. SO I jumped on the elliptical for a quick 15 minute workout. I still feel like a blob but not as bad. At least now my gym clothes are already in the car and ready for tomorrow!

Spring Break Plans

I just got off the elliptical and am about to do some yoga! But I thought I would take some time to talk about why I am SO EXCITED about spring break next week. I am going to Disneyworld with my mom! Leaving the boys at home, just taking a relaxing trip, just the two of us.
We leave Sunday morning early and are driving to Orlando. We are staying 5 nights at the Boardwalk Inn on the concierge floor. I have never stayed here so I am super excited!

We come back Friday then I will drive back to MS Saturday. I am excited about running outside in the mornings in Dinseyworld, I will for sure take pictures to share with the blog world. I may even check out their health club and take pics.
These past few months have been kind of stressful so it will be really nice to take a break from reality and just relax and have fun. I think that’s why I love Disney so much. You can have fun and be a kid and not think about things going on in your life.
Now, hopefully these next 4 days won’t go by too slowly! I do feel kind of bad leaving Bobby to tend to himself and the pups for a week. I am going to cook something Friday so he at least has some leftovers while I am gone.

Tomorrow I am going to run in the afternoon, it’s supposed to be warm, in the 70’s! I can’t wait.
Also, I was good today. I have a green monster, a banana muffin from scratch, greek yogurt, apples, almonds. I am doing well!

QOTD: what is your favorite vacation spot?

Check up time

I thought I would reflect today to “check up” on how I am doing with my road to a more healthy me. I think I am doing well so far.
1.)I ran a fun race and PR’ed which made me feel great
2.)I made 2 green monsters this week and 4 smoothies all together
3.)I made more of my healthy banana muffins and taco soup for veggies I don’t like
4.)I got a haircut, something fun and fresh for spring
5.)I am easing back into working out after the race. My body thanks me.
6.)I have been strength training more than usual
7.)I have been trying to keep my house clean for my mental health
8.)I have started trying out yoga to help with my flexibility and running/injuries.

I think that’s a pretty good list so far! I am happy with it. baby steps is my motto. If I do something drastic I have learned it most likely won’t stick, so this is working for me. So remember if you want to change your habits, you CAN do it! Just take baby steps and pick one or two things a week to change or improve upon and it is addicting!
I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend! One more week till spring break and VACATION for me!!!

QOTD: Do you have a change or a “baby step” you want to make?

Beautiful Day!

Today is a gorgeous day! High 63, sunny and beautiful! I got up this morning and ran for the first time since the race, and it felt good. I ran 3 miles faster than I anticipated, I was running at last fall’s race pace! I guess that means I am improving! Then I came back and cleaned out my car since I will be going to DISNEYWORLD in it in a week, and then Bobby was kind enough to wash the outside while I took the dogs for a walk.

We are just being lazy now, watching tv and hanging out with the pups. The sun makes me so happy! Now, if I can just make it through this week, I will be on spring break. I have a feeling it is going to d-r-a-g on, but hopefully it won’t.
I made some banana muffins this morning and ate one with my white chooclte peanut butter this morning. Yummo!!!
Hope everyone is having a good saturday!

QOTD: what is your favorite lazy Saturday activity?

Ok, so I did something last night I have never done…YOGA! I am EMBARASSINGLY unflexible. I would have been so embarassed if I had been in front of people doing that! I can’t even touch my toes. Yes, it is that bad. So I found some free videos online and did about 30 minutes worth. It felt really good to do some stretching. I am going to try and do it about 3 times a week and see if it helps my running, specifically my hip pain. Time will tell! I want to be able to touch my toes!!!
I am so glad it is Friday, today was good but exhausting. May go for a quick run tomorrow, first run since the race. I can’t believe it was a week ago we were driving down to NOLA!
Hope everyone has a good afternoon/evening! I may even do more yoga tonight..hhmm..

QOTD: do you do yoga? Do you like it? Does it help your running?

Random Happenings

So I have had a few small things to post lately, but they aren’t enough for a whole post, but now I have several small things so I thought I would put them all into one post. Here we go!

Last weekend when I went down to New Orleans, I had a couple of fun things waiting for me. My sister was lucky enough to go to the Bachus ball/parade and she caught a football that Drew Brees threw to her and she gave it to me. I was so excited that he had touched it that I kissed it and my mom took a pic.

Also, she went to some fashion show and got Anthony Hargrove’s autograph. He is a defensive tackle for the Saints! Here is my autograph.

EEEKK. He even put my name on it. 🙂

Then to top it off, my mom made the most yummy cookies in the shape of Fluer de lies!

Super excited about my fun filled Saints night.

Ok next thing, today I got a haircut. I get REALLY bored with my hair, very easily, and I am not a big hair person…just kind of indifferent on how it looks. I go through phases of wanting it long then short….so I chopped it off!

Oh, also, I saw this peanut butter on someone’s blog, can’t remember which one…and decided I had to try it. it’s called White chocolate wonderful, its yum! Has just a HINT of sweet in the aftertaste. No hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup, too.

they don’t carry it in all stores, but if you go to the website they have a store finder. They have other flavor, I want to try the dark chocolate next!

So night i am going to ATTEMPT yoga. I say attempt b/c I have been really done it, but a lot of people swear by it so I thought I would give it a go! I will let you know how it goes!

QOTD: Do you have a favorite kind of peanut butter?

Creamy Chicken Casserole

Ok, This is my favorite comfort food, and I have taken it and made a healthier version of it and I made it last night. Yummy!

-1/2 rotisserie chicken
-1.5 cans low sodium crema of chicken soup
-1 8 oz container lowfat sour cream
-1 pakage wheat Rotini noodles
-ritz crackers (or any crackers)
-smart balance light butter

cook noodles according to package directions and heat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix shreads of chicken, cream of chic. soup, and sour cream in bowl.
pour noodles in bottom of 13x 9 pan, put some butter on top (however much you want)
spread chicken/sour cream/cream of chic. soup mixture over noodles, top with crumpled crackers. I only put crackers on the part I am going to eat b/c it gets soggy otherwise.
Bake for 20-25 minutes. enjoy!!!

today was my first post race workout. I was starting to feel blobish so I needed to do something. I did 20 min. elliptical and 25 min. stationary bike for a total of 45 minutes cardio. I did a pretty light workout, just wanted to ease back into things. May do a short run this weekend, we will see. I am still a tad sore!!
