Today will be the last installment of my Disney Cruise from Galveston. You can check out parts one and two before reading this one.

Our last port day was Cozumel. Bobby and I have been here twice before, and were excited to show it to my parents.

DSC_0866

We headed to our favorite spot, Paradise Beach. We hadn’t been here since they put in their huge amazing pool, and it looks great. We headed to the beach and got some lounge chairs and ordered some drinks.

DSC_0869

DSC_0870

oh, dad.

DSC_0873

After awhile, my mom paid for Bobby to have a wristband to go use the inflatable trampolines and climbing toys in the water, and he headed straight for the trampoline.

DSC_0879

He did some flips, then decided to canon ball into the water.

DSC_0881

If you look really closely, you can see the big mistake he made…Bobby jumped in wearing his Oakley sunglasses. I knew as soon as he came up. he started looking around, going underwater, and my stomach dropped. Money doesn’t exactly grow on trees around here, and those were expensive sunglasses I got him for our anniversary and they weren’t even a year old. He stayed out about 20 minutes, then came in and got some snorkel gear and went back out there. We watched from the beach, praying the whole time that he would find them. Poor Bobby spent almost an hour out there, and I finally had to make him stop, I knew they were long gone. I convinced him to go enjoy the other stuff out in the water, and not let it ruin his day.

DSC_0883

After awhile, we got hot and hungry, and decided to go up to the pool area and eat lunch in the shade by the pool.

DSC_0887

Gorgeous view from our table

They had a cool fan, too

DSC_0890

DSC_0893

I had some really yummy quesadillas

DSC_0894

We enjoyed our lunch then decided to relax in the pool for a bit. It was so nice and refreshing. After awhile we decided to take a cab back to the port, we were beat!

DSC_0895

beautiful landscaping by the pool.

I let Bobby borrow my sunglasses because his blue eyes are way more sensitive than mine.

DSC_0898

When we got back on the boat, my mom wanted to go straight to the hot tub because her shoulders were hurting from being so tense on our jeep ride in Costa Maya. We almost didn’t go, but decided to go for a few minutes. We headed to the adult pool and jumped in the hot tub. Then we relaxed in some chairs and a couple about my parents age came and sat next to her. (I promise I am going somewhere with this, keep reading…)

We struck up a conversation with them because my dad and Bobby went and got us ice cream cones and my dad got one for the lady because her husband had gotten one and didn’t get one for his wife so my dad being the nice guy he is, got the lady an ice cream cone.

So, we all start talking, and come to find out they were at Paradise beach as well that day. Out of the blue, the man starts talking about how him and his wife were on a kayak way out past the far buoy, and they found a pair of sunglasses floating in the water. My mom and dad immediately jump up and scream and ask if they were black Oakleys.

YYYYYEEESSSS!!! THEY HAD FOUND BOBBY’S SUNGLASSES!!!! We could NOT believe it. the lady had them in her backpack and gave them back to us, what a miracle! We were in utter disbelief, we thought they were long gone. Scroll up tot eh photo of Bobby jumping on the trampoline…see the couple in the foreground on the kayak? THAT’S THEM! What are the odds. Seriously. We all (the couple included) said a prayer of thanks, it was DEFINITELY a God thing, and a good reminder to us that even when things are out of our power and control, HE is still able to do things that we can’t. It was so cool, we were on a high the rest of the day. We ended up chatting with the couple and this grown son for a long time, it was just a great day!

DSC_0902

It was semiformal night at dinner, which also meant lobster night.

DSC_0909

DSC_0910

The next day was out last day, a day at sea.

DSC_0913

We went to the movie theater and saw a movie, went to the gym, took naps, watched movies in our stateroom, and just enjoyed the ship.

DSC_0919

We enjoyed our last dinner, and said farewell to the Disney Magic.

DSC_0925

Until next time, see ya real soon!

Thanks for reading and looking at my photos. Next I will recap my November WDW trip leading up to the Wine and Dine half marathon.

Disney Cruise From Galveston Part 2

Part one of my Disney cruise photos can be found here.

I left off after our first port day, Grand Cayman. That night, was pirate night, arrrgghh!

DSC_0744

DSC_0748

After dinner we went up on deck for the pirate party and fireworks at sea. Pretty cool stuff.

DSC_0758

Followed by the pirate buffet. I was so full from dinner I couldn’t eat much, but that didn’t stop Bobby.

DSC_0762

The next morning, we docked in Costa Maya. For those who aren’t familiar, Costa Maya is very….errr…primitive compared to places like Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Most of the area doesn’t have electricity, and it’s a very, very poor place. We decided to do a jeep excursion, and it ended up being quite the crazy day.

DSC_0763

DSC_0769

Rain clouds threatened, but at the time we had no clue how much it would impact our day

DSC_0771

There were six jeeps total following the two guides in their jeep, and ours was right behind the guides, we we had the fun task of trying to keep up with them…with a broken speedometer. Yes, it read zero the entire time.

DSC_0785

We drove out of he tourist area down some roads and to another little town.

DSC_0774

DSC_0778

DSC_0779

It was quite sad. They told us the school doesn’t have a teacher and the kids watch a TV to learn then walk home. We walked around the village for a few minutes and then got back in the Jeeps to head through the jungle, off road to a beach where we could swim and would have lunch prepared for us.

DSC_0784

We drove on the main road for a few minutes then took an abrupt left into the jungle. Seriously.

DSC_0786

After about fifteen minutes of laughing hysterically, trying to keep up, going through huge holes and having trees whacking us, it started to POUR. Everyone stopped and we put the tops up, except there were NO SIDES to the jeep in the back so my parents still got soaked.

We actually passed one vehicle on this “road”, it was a very nice new looking camouflaged truck, and inside it were about 25 soldiers…with giant guns. Not going to lie it was kind of creepy. Where did they come from? We were literally in the middle of nowhere a good 20-25 minutes off the road. It surely reminded me we were not in America and we needed to be mindful and observant.

We finally made it to the beach, still pouring rain.

DSC_0795

It looked like it would be beautiful on a nice sunny day. SmileThis place was really cool, and about as authentic as it gets.

DSC_0799

They had a “buffet” for us (which I was slightly hesitant to eat)

DSC_0798

DSC_0800

The rain turned to a drizzle and we were able to go walk outside, and some of the kids even got in the water.

DSC_0802

DSC_0804

DSC_0809

Soon we were told it was time to start heading back. I snapped a few photos before heading to the jeep.

DSC_0811

DSC_0812

Luckily we had brought some beach towels and were able to dry off and use them to help us from getting soaked. It was still raining a bit, but we had to get back to the boat! Little did we know….

DSC_0821

We took a different way back than the way we came, all dirt, well, now, all RIVER. The road was washed out and what remained were gigantic “pot holes” stretching the entire length of the road. We were the lead car and HAD to keep up with the guides who were flying through them, and since it was a manual jeep, Bobby couldn’t slow down too much or we would stall, so we had to fly through these bad boys and it was insane. Photos don’t do it justice. My mom and I got SOAKED in the back seat, covered with mud. Mud went flying up over the top of the jeep, as we bounced along. Oh, and the windshield wiper only worked if you held it down, so my dad had to keep leaning over and hitting it for Bobby. We were cracking up laughing the whole time, my stomach was aching. This went on for about 30-40 minutes, all the way back into town. Hilarious. I have a short video of part of the wild ride, please ignore me laughing hysterically in the background, but it is worth watching. Check out my mom’s face at the very end!

We finally made it back to the main road and into town.

DSC_0826

We were taken to a souvenir store and given free tequila. We stood in a little group as he talked to us about the “Mexican medicine” and then he called me out of the crowd to take a shot in front of everyone. Great. Those pictures are on my mom’s camera and I will probably never see them. The most hilarious part as when he tried to give a shot to a seven year old girl. Her mom freaked out, it was quite funny.

DSC_0831

Dad’s turn. We shopped a bit then drove the rest of the way back to drop off the jeeps. Whew! When we set out on this adventure I had no idea what to expect, and it was a little out of my comfort zone but I am so glad we did it, and I don’t think it would have been near as much fun without the rain. Smile

DSC_0834

DSC_0835

After we got cleaned up, I went back on deck to take some photos with my stalker zoom lens. We were in port until 11:00 pm, so I went back again to see how little of this huge area had electricity.

DSC_0841

DSC_0843

DSC_0850

The hurricane back in 2006 knocked a LOT of this area out. I remember going on a cruise in 2007 that was rerouted from here because there was so much damage.

DSC_0853

DSC_0855

We had a great day in Costa Maya. Everyone was so friendly with the jeep rentals and at the beach/restaurant we went to, and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for something fun and family friendly to do here.

Next up, Cozumel!

QOTD: Have you ever done a ship excursion? Any favorites?

Disney Cruise out of Galveston

Back in October I was lucky enough to get a great rate on a Disney cruise sailing out of a new port, Galveston Texas. This was great for us because it was a three hour shorter drive than driving to Port Canaveral, and I had a lot of people asking about the new cruise and port. Instead of doing a day by day report, I just decided to do some photos of the trip for you in 2-3 installments, with a few quick captions/explanations. If you have questions about Disney Cruise line cruises please contact me (or any other cruise line!)

We sailed on the Disney Magic, which is one of the classic (smaller and older) ships. I have sailed on her twice before, and while she doesn’t have the newness or technology of the new ships the Dream and the Fantasy, it is much less crowded and has a more intimate feeling.

DSC_0605

Disney did a great job of sprucing up the port in Galveston by adding signs, etc. All in the waiting areas before you board the ship.

Number 14

Hello friends! I am back on land. Well, I was back on land yesterday to be exact. We had a great time on the cruise, aside from slight motion sickness one night, and then being car sick for 6 hours on the way back to my parents house, no fun! To add to the fun, Bobby and I are running a half marathon this morning! Oh yes. We may be crazy. I ate whatever I wanted on the cruise, and feel like crap to prove it. (Hello sodium).  So, today’s goal is to have fun since Bobby is going to run with me. We really loved this race last year, so hopefully it will live up to the same expectations! I will have my race report up on Wednesday, so stay tuned. We are now back to regular scheduled blogging. Oh, and a huge shout out and thank you to all my guest bloggers. You guys rock!

Ok, it’s go time. Gulf coast half, here we go! Be sure to follow me on Twitter and my Facebook fan page for updates and photos before and after the race!

QOTD: Do you get motion sickness? I even had the patch on during the cruise and still got a little sick one night!

Cruise on the Magic Part 5: Castaway Cay

Happy 4th of July! I am so blessed and honored to live in America, and am thankful for those past and present who have fought to protect our freedoms!

Check out my earlier installments of the cruise before reading this one!

DSC_0770

We woke up very excited about this day, we were going to Castaway Cay! For those of you who don’t know about my husband and I’s obsession with Castaway Cay, here are a few posts you may want to read:

Get the idea? Anyway, because of our deep love the the island, we decided NOT to run the Castaway Cay 5k again. here’s why. I literally had just ran the race 5 weeks prior, and was totally cool not doing it again. Bobby didn’t care, he just wanted to be on the island. Also, it was very hot and I struggled 5 weeks prior due to my motion sickness patch, which I had on again and didn’t want to get dizzy like last time. We like to have as much time as possible and we love being the first ones out to the adult beach to get the best chairs and one of the coveted hammocks.

We watched us pull in from our verandah, it was really cool to see how everyone scurried around getting the boat tied off, and getting supplies on the island etc. before they let the passengers off.

DSC_0688

DSC_0690

As soon as we got the all clear to disembark, we headed to the gangway and were back in our favorite place on earth.

DSC_0692

DSC_0698

We hopped on the tram excited for a full day of relaxing fun in the sun. We switched trams to go to the adults only beach, serenity bay. I tell you no lie when I say we were LITERALLY the first people of the cruise to step foot on our beloved Serenity Bay, and it was fabulous. We have been the first one other time before and I just love those early morning few quiet minutes before it gets full of people.

DSC_0735

DSC_0739

The sun was quite bright, so I found it necessary for my awesome hat to make a reappearance.

DSC_0743

After lunch and more relaxing, we decided to head to the family beach so bobby could do some looking around underwater at some of the statues and things. We have never been to the family beach, and since it was about 2:30ish, it was already starting to empty out. We found some chairs/umbrellas in a quiet area and Bobby took off towards the water.

DSC_0746

DSC_0749

DSC_0752

I may or may not have instantly fallen asleep for about 45 minutes. Bobby came back in from the water and we sat for a bit before decided to head back. Always the saddest part of the trip for me, walking back to the ship at the end of Castaway Cay day.

Cruise on the Magic Part 4: Pirate Night

AAARRRGGHHH! We left off with part three at pirate night aboard the Disney Magic.

DSC_0651

hehe.

DSC_0654

Dinner was at Parrot Cay again, with a pirate menu of course.

DSC_0662

The food had a Caribbean flare, and after we were done with dessert we headed up on deck for the party.

DSC_0664

The actual party itself is more geared towards kids, we walked around another part of the ship and then waited for Mickey to come in and save the ship from those blasted pirates!

DSC_0669

DSC_0674

Then, it was time for fireworks at sea! Being the smart kids that we are, we had already positioned ourselves on the correct side of the ship at the railing for the best viewing.

DSC_0677 DSC_0678

DSC_0680 DSC_0682

Right as the fireworks were ending we did something else because we are veteran Disney cruisers and smart kiddos…we started heading down a deck to the pirate buffet! (Like we hadn’t eaten enough at dinner!) Bobby loves this part most because they have whole turkey legs like you can buy in the park, of course these are included in the price of your cruise!

DSC_0668

There were two different stretches of tables, one of “real food” and one of desserts. They had tacos, crepes, turket legs, fruit, cake, chili, it was wonderful.

DSC_0683

DSC_0684

We took our plates back to the adult section and found a table. They had started playing one of the Pirate’s in the Carribean movies on the big screen outside at the family pool and it was loud and very busy over there with all the tables set up. Word of advice, don’t wait until the fireworks are over to get in line. The lines got SO LONG, SO FAST. When I was on the Fantasy they had the buffet in Cabanas where they have buffets every day so it wasn’t bad, but on the Magic and Wonder they have had them on the pool deck and it’s chaos.

DSC_0685

The happy boy with his turkey leg

DSC_0687

We waddled back to our rooms with very full bellies. Why do they make Pirate night right before Castaway Cay day when everyone will be in their swimsuits? I was feeling QUITE bloated the next day! My next installment will be Castaway Cay day!

Remember, I am a Disney travel planner. I have been on all four Disney Ships and would love to help plan your next vacation! It is no additional cost to you to have me book for you! e mail me at heather@travelwiththemagic.com for more details.

QOTD: When heading for a buffet such as this, would you head to the “real food” table first or the “dessert” table?

Cruise on the Magic Part 3

Ok so We left off with Key West’s sunset, and I realized my post was getting a bit too long. Let’s pick up with dinner that night:

DSC_0562

We saw captain Mickey in the lobby

DSC_0566

Dinner was great, not sure why I didn’t take photos of the restaurant. But I do have dessert!

DSC_0576

The next day was sea day. We hit up the sit down breakfast before heading to the pool. We relaed a better part of the morning, then decided to do sit down lunch. I wanted an ice cream mickey for dessert and the server asked if I wanted minnie or mickey, I said surprsie me. here is my “mini mouse” bar. Oh dear. The spelling.

DSC_0582

That afternoon we hung out around the ship, watched movies, went to the gym, and relaxed. It was glorious.  Dinner was semi formal, so we got all gussied up for the occasion.

DSC_0588

We were in Animator’s Palate for the evening.

DSC_0594

DSC_0595

Dinner was great as usual, and we were tuckered out from all the sun so we headed to bed shortly after.

The next day was Nassau day. We have been here twice before, so we really had no desire to get off the ship. We woke up to this outside our balcony:

Hello Disney Dream! This was our view from our pool chairs all morning! I was on the Dream last summer, so it was weird being on the Magic and looking over at her! QOTD: Wen you cruise do you always get off at every port?

May Disney World Trip and Cruise Part 1

As you probably know, Bobby and I just got back from a long vacation. Bobby had not been to Disney since September and we hadn’t cruised together in a year (I went on a 3 day work cruise in March) so we were excited about the opportunity to unplug and have a nice long trip together. We first sailed on a 5 night cruise to Key West, Nassau, and Disney’s private island Castaway Cay, and then spent 4 nights in WDW.

We got on the Disney Magic at lunchtime and were able to snag Palo brunch reservations before heading to lunch. The weather was beautiful so we were able to eat outside and not sweat to death (seriously we had gorgeous weather the entire time!)

We walked around the ship and took pictures while we waited for our cabin to be ready.

Before long it was time to head to our rooms. I was ready to ditch my carry on bag and start getting our luggage so we could unpack. We were in a deluxe oceanview stateroom with a verandah on the 6th deck. (6130) I highly recommend this room if you are looking for a specific number. It was clean and everything was in working order, and our hall was very very quiet.

Let’s just say Bobby didn’t know I had a fooseball table for awhile growing up and that I am pretty darn good if I do say so myself. Eventually it was time for dinner.

After dinner we went to the adult’s only area/club and played a really fun scavenger hunt game where I ended up taking off my bra through my dress in front of everyone and giving it to Bobby to wear on stage…don’t ask. We also watched match your mate (kind of like the newlywed game where all the men always end up getting into trouble). We laughed and laughed and had a great time and then went to bed for our first night, ready to tackle Key West the next day!

QOTD: Who will be watching the Grey’s Anatomy finale tonight? Who do you think will die? What about American Idol? Who’s going home?

Disney Fantasy Part 5

Hello friends! I am currently at the Grand Floridian enjoying a vacation with my hubby (I know I go out of town a lot but Bobby hasn’t been since September) so it has been nice to get away. We will return to regular blogging when I get back so stick with me!

Since I just got off the Magic Wednesday, I thought today would be a good day to share more photos from the Fantasy when I was on her for work in March. Check out my other recaps below as well:
