New Year’s Eve Weekend Recap

Hi friends! Here we are in the thick of the first week of January and I realized I never recapped the holiday weekend. Whoops! Not that we did anything super exciting, but anyway. I didn’t even make it to midnight on NYE, but did enjoy watching some football. On Friday, I took down the Christmas tree and all the other decorations around the inside of the house (sad panda) aannddd I did it like this:

KIDDING! although, how flippin awesome is that?!? Genius. If I didn’t enjoy the putting on of the ornaments so much, I would consider it. We stayed inside that day because it was pretty chilly. I moved Emma Kate’s table and chairs into the living room and she is really enjoying it.

Saturday was another cold day, but I needed to run 6.2 miles, so I left Bobby home with EK during her nap time and headed out. I swear the cold weather makes me run faster so I can get. it. over. with. I ran a super hilly course and ended up running less that two minutes off of my 10K PR!

Also yall, seriously, I am going to have to go back to braiding my hair when I run. It’s getting longer and is so thick…When I started my run, my ponytail was super tight and ON THE TOP OF MY HEAD. Check out it’s ending location. Whomp whomp. #HairDrama.

Later that afternoon, we all needed to get out of the house, so even though it was 44 degrees, we took Emma Kate to the park. I thought for sure we would be the only ones there and I would be shamed for brining my child out into the frozen tundra (don’t laugh, I have lived in the south my entire existence), but I had to laugh when the park was FULL. Then I remembered, kids have been out of school. For two weeks. Parents are losing their minds. Everyone, let’s go to the park!

Emma Kate LOVED this cool slide. She went down it about ten times. Little daredevil.

She is so sweet. I love it when she has a good time.

After we were sufficiently frozen, we went to Chick-Fil-A where I got what will most likely be my last Peppermint milkshake of the season. More sad times. Emma Kate wanted to try it, and thankfully she loved it, unlike her daddy. Shame.

Sunday morning was a little warmer, and we headed off to church before watching the Saints win their final game of the season.  How adorable is Emma Kate’s dress?!?

We went for a family walk (Bella included) in the afternoon, took down outdoor lights, and just hung around Sunday night, because we have a really great social scene here in Mississippi yall.

That’s about it! I hope you had more excitement than us, and that you don’t still have your tree up. Seriously, it’s time. Have a great day all!

QOTD: How long do you leave your tree up after New Years?

Thanksgiving 2015

Has everyone come out of their turkey comas yet? On Sunday night as Bobby was eating more leftovers, I told him I just couldn’t do it, and I had waffles for dinner instead. We did have a great few days though, and three different Thanksgivings!

Thursday morning we anxiously awaited the arrival of my parents and my sister.

Emma Kate was one happy little pigtail-ed girl when they finally got to the house!

We cooked and played

Emma Kate was being a serious show off with everyone paying her so much attention. She kept running for toy to toy making sure everyone was watching her.

We of course watched the parade.

Lunch was great, and I was pretty proud of three new recipes I used, and also of my table setting I created. Also, I fail at blogging and have no food pictures! Bobby informed me he posted one on Instagram which made me laugh because he hasn’t used Instagram in months, but apparently the food was deserving of a post.

After lunch, we had a pretty serious game of cornhole going. I mean, just look at the concentration in my moms eyes.

My dad was pretty good at it, much to Bobby’s dismay.

Emma Kate loved chasing the bean bags and picking them up and running back and forth.

Everyone napped except for me, and we watched football all afternoon and capped off the night watching a couple of FRIENDS Thanksgiving episodes, which are the best. Friday morning, my mom, dad, sister and I hit up our local outdoor mall. Dad and I ended up just wandering around and sitting on benches while my mom and sister shopped, but it was a pretty day so we didn’t mind.

Friday at lunch we all headed to Bobby’s cousins house for another Thanksgiving lunch. More turkey was consumed.

Unfortunately, after lunch my family packed up and headed home. Bobby and I spent the rest of Friday and Saturday just hanging out with Emma Kate, eating leftovers, and watching college football. Oh, and playing baseball with a pumpkin and a machete. What? You don’t do this? I think I got a couple of pretty good action shots.

Saturday night we had a Friendsgiving with a bunch of friends from our lifegroup at church. More turkey was consumed, and more football was watched.

Sunday was church and more football (I am detecting a pattern here) and sadly our holiday weekend came to an end. I hope you had a great one like I did and got to hang out with friends and family! Happy Thanksgiving!

QOTD: Favorite Thanksgiving food. Go.

All 4 Run: Virtual Run Recap + 4th of July

I completed my “All 4 Run” virtual race this past weekend. Gone for a RUN put on yet another fun race with a great shirt and medal included. I ran on Friday July 3rd because I knew the 4th would be pretty busy!

IMG_6154 (2)

It was a hot morning and I didn’t get started until mid morning. I’m really not sure why I thought this time frame was a good idea.

IMG_6155 (2)

I ran one of my favorite routes in a nearby neighborhood and tried to find some shade. It was tough and hilly, but I got it done! Of course I had to dress the patriotic part, too. While my time didn’t reflect a race pace, I am glad I had a fun event of my own to participate in.

I really enjoyed doing this run. I decided not to run our local 4th of July 5k because it’s very hot and very crowded, and we had two parties to attend that day so this worked out better for me. I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend and that you were able to get a race or a run in!

On the 4th of July, we had two fun parties to go to. Our life group at church had a lunch get together, and our neighborhood had a dinner potluck plus fireworks. It was fun to have a full day of hanging out with friends and meeting some of my neighbors (we have a pretty big neighborhood so a ton of people I don’t know).

4th of july

Emma Kate’s shoes stayed on for about 2.5 minutes. Oh well. I got to wear my flag sandals that I wear exactly one time per year.

QOTD: Have you ever participated in a virtual run?

As a Gone for a run Ambassador, I received free entry into the virtual race.

4th of July Plans + Virtual Race

I love holidays, so in my mind it’s never too early to start planning for the 4th of July! This year we have a lot going on, but I’m really excited.

First of all, Gone for a RUN is hosting another great virtual run. This one is a four mile race. Just sign up, receive your race packet in the mail, and run, walk, or crawl the 4 miles on the course of your choice during the race window. In exchange you will receive a REAL finisher’s medal! You will also get a race shirt (either a Women’s Athletic Tank Top, Men’s Lifestyle Tee or Youth Short Sleeve Tee), real race bib (no downloads!) and a car magnet.

Race will be held July 2nd-5th.
In order to ship your race packet in time for the race, please register by June 22nd. Here is a close up of the medal. I love it!

If my quad is cooperating, then I plan to run the local Watermelon 5k in Jackson. It’s a big fun race but it’s going to be super hot I’m sure so we will see what happens.

Also, our life group from church is having a 4th of July party. We will have BBQ, slip n slide for the kids, and everyone is dressing up in their red, white, and blue. It’s going to be so much fun, I can’t wait. I love dressing up for themed parties so this is right up my alley. Here are a couple photos from years past:

QOTD: What are you doing for 4th of July?

Disclosure: as a Gone for a RUN ambassador I received a free entry into this race, however all opinions are my own.

Easter Weekend 2014

Good morning! We are back home from visiting my family for Easter, and we had a great weekend. We were blessed to have the most gorgeous weather the entire time, and spent a ton of time sitting outside enjoying the low humidity.

We arrived Friday afternoon and went to dinner for my dad’s birthday then had cake and ice cream back at the house.

Saturday Bobby and I were up early for the Crescent city classic in New Orleans. Over 25,000 people were registered for the race! (Recap to come on Thursday). We had a blast, and came home and sat outside with my parents. Bobby may have fallen asleep on the porch.

My parents got a new patio set for the backyard, and my dad spent a ton of time working in the backyard making it beautiful for spring and this is where we we spent most of the weekend.

Sunday morning we went to my parent’s church and heard my mom sing in the choir.

After church, we did some grilling in preparation of two of my aunts and uncles coming over for lunch.

We had a great lunch and a fun time visiting with family Sunday.

The rest of Sunday was just relaxing and chatting, a great way tow rap up a holiday weekend. We left Monday morning, with plenty of leftovers now in our refrigerator. What a great weekend!

Bella is worn out, too. By the way, today is Bella’s 6th birthday!

QOTD: What did you do for Easter?

Happy New Year 2014!

Well…it’s 2014! I hope everyone had fun last night. I am visiting family so will be writing a couple New Years posts over the next few days, but I just wanted to pop in and wish you all a year of health and happiness!

We all have a blank slate starting today so think carefully about what you will do with it! Do good things, make healthy choices, don’t bring unnecessary baggage into 2014. Love y’all!

QOTD: what did you do last night?

Thanksgiving 2013

Happy black Friday! No shopping for us today, we are driving about three hours north to visit with Bobby’s family today. We had a great day yesterday with my parents and are a ton of food, and more of the same today!

I hope you all had a great day with family and friends and continue to enjoy the weekend. Here are a few pictures from our day.

Love Story

I first saw this cute survey on Brittany’s blog and knew I had to post as well! So in honor of Valentine’s Day (a day late) here are my answers to our Love Story:

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?

We started dating September 2004, then we got engaged December 2005, and married January 2007…so…7.5 years? WOW! Doesn’t seem that long.

2. How did you meet? {What’s your “love” story?}

Bobby and I met a couple of times my freshman year of college but were both involved with other people. Both single, we really “met” our first weekend of college my sophomore year, his senior year. We were playing on opposing sand volleyball teams in the intermural tournament. He started talking to me and asked for my number “so he could let me know the next time they were playing volleyball so I could join.” Rrriiggghhhttt….

3. If married, how long have you been married?

We celebrated out five year anniversary on January 6 of this year.

4. Where did you get married? Big or small wedding?

We had a big New Orleans wedding, over 200 people. The ceremony was at First Baptist New Orleans and the reception was at Southern oaks Plantation. It was amazing.

January 2007

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!

Honey, sweetheart, hon, sweetie…boring stuff. :0P

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.

I could name a bunch but 1.) he loves God more than anything 2.) He would bend over backwards (and has) to make me happy. 3.) he has strong family and moral values that fit in with what we both want out of life.

7. Tell us how he proposed?

The day of my last winter exam Junior year. In the living room of my apartment after we watched an episode of Friends and ate dinner on TV trays. he said he just couldn’t stand it another minute.

December 2005

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?

Really not either. He can do both and has, but we are more low key and don’t tend to do traditional Valentine’s day gifts.

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?

Once again, really both. We love the beach (and food!) but also love just relaxing together at home.

10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?

Hhhmm…we love to travel, so just travel more I guess? I’m boring, I have come to grips.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine’s Day.

Well I can tell you what we DID, since it was yesterday. We both worked and then met at our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. Then we had to go to Wal-Mart and buy him some specific clothes for a TV show he is filming in today as an extra, then we came home and hung out.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day?

I didn’t ask for anything in particular but got two amazing gifts. A new piece of furniture and a trip to Disneyland to run the half marathon! I get my coast to coast medal!

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.

Communication. I know it’s cliché but your spouse cannot read your mind, so talk and share.

14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.

QOTD: What did you do for Valentine’s Day? Doesn’t have to be sappy, romantic, or even have to do with love!

*Rouge Orleans recaps start TOMORROW!

Holiday Wrap Up

Well friends, it’s January. Christmas is over, decorations will come down tomorrow. It’s 2012, so time to move on and get MOVING! But, before we do that, a few things to wrap up:

Ortholite Giveaway Winners:

Ladies, Congrats! Please e mail me at so I can get you your prize. Thanks to everyone who entered! If you didn’t win, don’t worry! stay tuned for another giveaway coming up in the next week or so.

Before I move on to all things 2012, I wanted to wrap up a couple of 2012 things with some pictures. As I mentioned before, my mom’s birthday is Christmas day. So, Christmas night she had a cake, we sang, and we ate…again.

Bobby and Bella had a long day.

My dad testing out my mom’s new foam roller. Ha.

New Year’s eve…

Happy New Year!

I actually fell asleep about 11:00, but woke up at midnight because I thought the street was blowing up there were so many fireworks! The dogs were going crazy of course.

So, looking forward to 2012, I have some exciting things coming up….like a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday as a 2nd follow up for my foot. Hopefully, I will FINALLY be cleared to run (I haven’t run since Thanksgiving.) I have been walking up to one mile with no pain, so I am praying that means I can slowly start running again (and get back to BLOGGING about running!)

Look for some fun things coming up like giveaways, fun vlogs (more than just me talking to the camera sitting in my living room) and some more guest posts. I am determined to make 2012 great! Have a great first Monday of the year!

Do you shoot off fireworks on NYE? Go watch them somewhere? Spill!

Christmas Day Recap 2011

Good morning! Yesterday was quite sad. It was rainy and gloomy, and we left my parents house, so Christmas is officially over. Sad! We are back home and trying to get back to normalcy. Bobby is off work today, so we are getting to hang out, go to the gym, etc.

I hope you enjoyed my Christmas eve recap from yesterday, and here is what we did on Christmas day!

We woke up at 7:15 and headed downstairs. There was a fire roaring, the tree looked beautiful, and the Christmas music was playing. I grabbed some coffee, and it was time to open presents!

We always steal one of my parents suitcases when we go on vacation because we don’t have enough, so they got us one so we would “stop stealing theirs.”

I got mom a running skirt, of course.

dad torturing Bella

You know you are a runner when your parents put clif shots in your stocking.

Bobby has a big gift for me and I had no idea what it was…turns out it was one, of a set! he got me the nightstands that go with our bedroom set! (So far all we had was the bed.) I was stoked!

My mom’s birthday is on Christmas day, and I couldn’t wait until dinner for her to open her gift, so I made her open it tat morning.

She had been wanting a Disney Dooney of that style for a long time, so she was quite excited!

After making my cream cheese Danish for everyone for breakfast, we were off to my cousin’s house.

Check it out, they recently got two corvettes, and redid their garage to match. So. freaking. cool.

We had lunch with a lot of our relatives, always a plentiful amount of amazing food.

There was also a birthday cake for mom!

After all the eating, Bobby decided an afternoon nap was in order.

aaannddd my dad didn’t want him to have the luxury.

Trying to get everyone together for pictures is always a good laugh.

the boys

brother and sisters

Look how cute they are.

We drove home through the yucky rain, and you bet, ate again! This time it was in front of the fire and TV while we watched Home Alone.

My sister and her husband came over later, just in time for more cake and ice cream. It was pretty late by time they left, and we were all very much in a food coma, so none of us fought off sleep. It was a great Christmas with my family, but as usual, it went by way too fast! I hope you had just as great of a weekend as I did! Only 363 more days…It will be here before you know it. Merry Christmas.

QOTD: What was your favorite part of Christmas?

**Don’t forget about my OrthoLite GIVEAWAY! three winners!
