#DisneySportsFestival Day 2 Part 1

I blogged last week about the Sunday night we spent at the Disney Sports Festival. Since I have already written a post about the sports complex in general, I am going to instead tell you a little about my day and highlight things that I didn’t mention or go into detail about in my previous post.

disney sports festival

Monday was our first official full day, and it started bright and early at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. We were there for a tour which was led by a friend of mine, Carissa!

We were welcomed to the complex, were fed breakfast, and then heard a little bit from some important people in Disney sports. Recognize anyone?

It was a great way to open things up and start our day at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, but of course we had to get pictures with the main man, Mickey!

photo (58)

This next picture of me and Jen totally cracks me up. We are just discussing some Fantasy Football picks. Raise your hand if you would watch a sports show with me and Jen as hosts!!! No? Come on!

We started our tour and were shown some parts of the complex I had never seen before. This Office Max business center was way cool. it had phone charging stations as well as signs and fans you could write on with sharpies to cheer on your team!

We also got to see a really neat thing that you can do at the sports complex, and that is make customized shirts. You pick a sport, and can have a wide range of things put on the back and sleeves of the shirts. I was stoked when I learned we got to make shirts of our own! I put my Twitter handle on the back, of course.

Looking through the book of logos.

After picking out our shirts we were brought down to a place where we saw some green screens. I have seen these before and was interested in learning about how a team can have their photo made together, or even put their super stars on the cover of ESPN magazine!

Again, I loved the interaction. Not only were we TOLD about how this process works, but we were given the opportunity to join in the fun. Photos with Goofy in front of a green screen anyone? I made him “run” with me. I felt a little goofy (haha) taking the photo but I think it turned out cute.

photo (59)

I cannot even tell you how many people thought my ESPM magazine cover was real in I posted it on Instagram. I wish!

photo (60)

This post is getting a bit lengthy so I will pick up with the rest of the tour and the surprises that were in store for us next time!

QOTD: Have you ever had your photo taken in front of a green screen?

LAST DAY to enter my medal hanger giveaway by Sport Hooks!

Disclosure: I attended this event as a media guest for Disney Sports. My flight, accommodations, park tickets, and meals were supplied by Disney, but my opinions are my own.

Luv Footwear Giveaway

I was contacted by the folks at Luv Footwear to review and giveaway a pair of their new Dream flats.

photo (57)

Dream flats are a revolutionized ballerina flat that fuses artistic expression with anatomical performance. These shoes come in a variety of colors and patterns, are super comfy, and cute!

LUV Footwear releases collectable, limited edition Dream Flats seasonally, each with its own fun, cute, and beautiful personality.

Here are some facts on the shoes:

· Extremely light and flexible

· Machine washable

· Waterproof, and they float

· Anatomically shaped and supportive insole

· Protective toe cap

· Collectible, colorful designs released seasonally

photo (56)

Also, youth and toddle sizes are available. I think my favorite thing about these shoes is the ability to wash them. I have had a lot of this style of shoe in the past, and they can get very dirty, especially the lighter colors. I didn’t hesitate to order a light color this time because I knew they could be thrown in the washing machine!

They do run small, so I suggest sizing up if you order a pair. There are so many cute patterns I wasn’t sure which to try, but I knew these would go with the most items in my closet. These would be great as a runner to have in your bag check and slip on after a race as you walk around, instead of flip flops. I think I will try it at my next one.

The Luv Footwear folks are allowing me to give away a pair of Dream Flats on my blog, follow the instructions below to enter!

Weekly Workout Recap: July 2013 Week 4

Rainy weekend down here in Mississippi. Bobby and I  got POURED on during our 11 mile run yesterday. If only we had run a little bit faster we wouldn’t have had sand pelting our bodies (exfoliator anyone?) crazy wind and hard rain. At least it was in the last couple miles of our run.

soaking wet after 11 miles at the beach + a thunderstorm

Check out how the rest of my workout week went:

Sunday: rest

Monday: 6 mile treadmill run

Tuesday: weights, 40 minutes stationary bike

Wednesday: 3 mile run, 15 minutes stationary bike

Thursday: weights, 30 minutes stationary bike

Friday: 40 minutes elliptical

Saturday: 11 mile long run

I was very proud that I did cardio 6 days this week after being out of town for so long. It was tough getting back to it, but this is the first time I have run 20 miles in one week since February I think. This next week will be a running cut back week, then the next will have my last really long run before Dumbo Double Dare. I am not where I wanted to be speed wise, but I am confident in the distance. Now what about back to back runs…yeah I haven’t done any of those yet. Maybe this week.

QOTD: How many days of cardio do you do a week?

July 13, 2013

Happy Saturday! So I realized with all the madness around me going out of town and getting home/playing catch up, I never told yall what I ended up doing on my actual birthday 2 weeks ago!

My plane from New Orleans left at 7:30, so my sweet hubby dropped me off early in the morning for my week in Florida. When I landed, Jen had already arrived, and I met her down at Disney’s Magical Express where we hopped on a bus and headed to the Boardwalk Inn.

photo (49)

We checked in and our rooms weren’t ready, so we walked to Beaches and Cream to eat lunch, and I got a birthday balloon!

photo (50)

I felt like a 5 year old, but that’s ok. After lunch we headed back to the resort and my room was ready, and in it was a special surprise from Jen!

photo (51)

She knows me so well. She even got my favorite flavors.

It was SO delicious. She had another surprise for me, we were going to the spa at the Grand Floridian to get pedicures! I honestly haven’t had a pedicure since high school, so it was a real treat.

photo (53)

We ended up in a downpour walking to the bus stop, but that’s ok, it was my birthday and I wasn’t going to let anything ruin it. We got all cleaned up and dried off then headed to dinner at the Flying Fish. Jen had never been there, so I thought it would be fun.

photo (54)

We had a nice time, and were even given free champagne and a free dessert (peach crème brulee) for a birthday treat. The waitress even put a candle on it, so sweet.

photo (55)

We were pretty exhausted from all the traveling and the fun, but it was a great day and the only time I have ever been in Disney for my actual birthday!

QOTD: Have you ever been away from home on your birthday?

#DisneySportsFestival Day 1

When I was in Disney World for the Disney Sports Festival, I learned about a lot of things I didn’t know that were going on while I was in the parks with my family enjoying a typical trip.

There are SO many sporting events, parties and the like that they have a whole calendar dedicated to sports! I was lucky to get to experience first hand some of these events while also learning about other offerings at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

On Sunday, the first day of the media meet up, we were invited to tag along at the opening party for the International Cup youth soccer tournament.

Me and Jen on the bus

(More about this tournament to come on my blog!) The party was held at Animal Kingdom park on Sunday night. There was SO much excitement in the air as soccer teams from all over the world, dressed in their teams’ colors, ran around singing and laughing.

There was a buffet inside one of the restaurants, and I helped myself to the food and cotton candy for dessert!

photo (44)

photo (45)

We went outside and discovered we could get free ice cream from the ice cream cart. This seriously made my night. It was the best dessert I had all week!

photo (46)

Jen, Meghann, Kelly, and me

Dinoland was open, so we rode a couple of rides and played some of the carnival games. It was a blast!

photo (47)

At about 11:00, we decided to head back. As we were walking through the park, my shoe broke! So I had to walk through Animal Kingdom and the parking area barefoot. Klassy with a K. Not my finest moment, but what can you do? Sadly, my shoes went in the trash.

photo (48)

We had a great time and it got me excited for the next day when we would be touring the Sports Complex!

QOTD: Have your shoes even broken in public?

Disclosure: I attended this event as a media guest for Disney Sports. My flight, accommodations, park tickets, and meals were supplied by Disney, but my opinions are my own.

Senses Spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs

Have you been to the newly re imagined Senses Spa at Saratoga Springs Resort in Walt Disney World?

I jumped at the chance to check out the redesign. I was lucky to get to visit and get a massage at the spa at the Grand Floridian, so I was curious to see the differences between the two spas and especially curious if any of them had Japanese massage chairs. While they may share the bulk of the same spa menu, one thing they do not share is the same theming and decor. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I was blown away!

senses spa

Dark woods, stone, and Native American influences are sprinkled throughout the large space. We saw lots of cool touches like Italian mosaics, hummingbirds, and even hidden Mickeys. The idea here is to look like a 19th century wellness retreat in New York.

I am not going to go into the spa menu as much since I already covered the basics in my last spa post, but I did want to share with you the beauty of this location.

senses spa2

There is a mani/pedi room with the same amazing massage chairs you will find at the Grand Floridian spa.

senses spa3

There are several types of treatment rooms available, all with gorgeous lighting and great touches like hot bar racks to keep your robe warm.

The walls have a beautiful texture to them, and I just loved these outdoorsy light fixtures in the hallways.

senses spa 5

Can you spot the hummingbird in the relaxation room? This is where you relax and wait before your treatment begins. By the way, these lounge chairs are so soft. I didn’t lay down because I knew I would never get back up!

senses spa6

The men’s and women’s locker rooms have these plunge pools, as well as my favorite heated tiled chairs, just like on the Disney Cruise ships. Unfortunately, they weren’t turned on or I would have been taking a quick nap. What a great treat after participating in a runDisney race, huh my fellow runners? Something to think about!

senses spa 7

The tiles on the wall were imported from Italy. Check out that hummingbird! Also, can you find the hidden Mickey?

senses spa12

We took a peek into the locker room which resembles the one at the Grand Floridian, and they offer all the same amenities at both locations.

senses spa8

The bathrooms have blow dryers, straighteners, and other items you may need to primp after a relaxing massage or an invigorating facial.

senses spa10

During the tour, I was told about special seasonal offerings that sound so amazing. I really want a pumpkin enzyme facial! Sounds amazing, right?

QOTD: What is your favorite spa treatment? Have you been to one of Disney’s spas?

Giveaway time! I am super excited about this one for many reasons. 1.) I was totally running out of room for my bling

2.) It’s a DISNEY inspired giveaway

3.) it’s just in time for the Disneyland half marathon and Dumbo Double Dare!

Ok, I am getting ahead of myself. I was contacted by SportHooks by HeavyMedalz to host a review and giveaway of one of their Disney inspired medal hangers. There were one, five, and ten hook displays to choose from. I have a lot of runDisney medals, so I of course chose the 10 hook display. They even have a special Princess, Dopey, and goofy display! BUY ALL THE MEDAL HANGERS was running through my head as I browsed the website.

What I love about these babies is they are so easy to install and come with the parts you need to get it into place on your wall. Hubby had it up in just a couple of minutes, and soon after my lovely runDisney medals were being showcased on the wall.

Inspiration in Everything

I love inspiring quotes. They help me through the hard days, and especially through the hard runs. My all time favorite is “you are stronger than you think”, but there are so many other great ones out there as well.

If you look hard enough, you can find inspiration in just about anything. Thankfully, the folks at The Universe Knows have made it super easy to find! They sent me a few of there inspirational items, and I have loved using them to keep me inspired and maybe even inspire others. I was given a journal, a mug, and a long sleeved hoodie.

My favorite of the quotes is on my journal. It is a great reminder! It is a leather journal with a ton of pages. I haven’t yet decided what I will use it for, but I love the color and quality.

I have used my mug several times (dishwasher safe) and absolutely love the summary they put with the mug on the website, so I am sharing it below.

what a difference a day makes.

just for today I am going to allow myself to be imperfect. I will forget my past and not worry about the future. today I will love myself, forgive myself and relinquish any feelings of guilt that I have. today, I know that I am enough. just for today, I will stretch my boundaries and push just beyond my comfort zone. today I will smile more and be more generous. just for today I will be grateful for the simple things, celebrate little things and allow myself to be loved.

I love it! So well put. I think of that quote when I drink out of my mug.

I was also given this great pink find your balance hoodie. I however haven’t had a chance to wear it because it has been in the mid to upper 90’s every day this summer! It feels so soft, and the words are stitched into the fabric. I can’t wait to have something new to wear this fall.

Be sure to check out their website for other great products, colors, and quotes. So many to choose from!

You can follow along with other product reviews and tweets with the hashtag #inspirationwear

QOTD: If you could choose a quote to put on a product what would you chose?

#DisneySportsFestival runDisney Fun Run

This past week while I was in Walt Disney World for the #DisneySportsFestival, I had the opportunity to participate in the runDisney fun run that was held one morning.

Me, Jen, and Carissa before the run

We got up bright and early (although not as early as a runDisney race!) and met up at Sea Breeze Point on the Boardwalk between our hotel and EPCOT. Darrell Fry, sports media director, welcomed us and gave introductions.

We also heard from our friends at New Balance who were joining us that morning. After our .8 mile loop if we wanted to we had the chance to keep running along the path that they are calling the “New Balance trails”.  Mention of the new runDisney shoes for next year also came up, and I can’t wait to see what they came up with this time! They also said they will start rolling out teasers during Wine and Dine weekend. cannot. wait.

We started up on the bridge before going into EPCOT. We spotted a friend before we started, and took a group picture. She promised we could take pictures with her after the run, it was a good incentive to hurry and get back.

We made it into EPCOT and weaved our way around the World Showcase. It’s so much fun running through the empty park listening to the music and enjoying the surroundings. An amazing way to start the day.

I can’t remember what was so funny but there are several pictures of us looking at each other and laughing!

We made a pit stop in Germany for some water, and some of my favorite pals came out to cheer us on. Of course, picture taking was in order.

photo (36)

I spoke to Dopey, and told him that I would soon start training for his race in January. I asked him if he could tell me about the finishers medal, but he just acted well…Dopey and pretended like he didn’t understand. Oh well, I tried.

photo (37)

photo (39)

I wanted to stay and chat, Rapunzel was just getting to the good stuff, but sadly we had to continue on our run.

We made it back to the exit of EPCOT, and as promised Princess Minnie was there waiting for a photo op.

photo (38)

I hadn’t seen Minnie since the Princess half marathon, so we had a lot to discuss. But first, we worked on my posing.

Some people decided to go back to Sea Breeze Point for refreshments like bananas and Powerade, and some continued on the New Balance trails to get in some more mileage.

As a runDisney runner, it was a great reminder of why I love this brand and their races so much. The fun run was just what it was named: fun. I smiled the whole time! It was a great behind the scenes look at the spirit of runDisney. I got to speak with several folks after who have never participated in a runDisney event before, and they all said they couldn’t wait to try one out after experiencing the fun run!

QOTD: If you could have a photo with any Disney character on a race course who would it be?

You can runDisney too! Spots are still open for the Happy Haunted 5k trail run, Mickey’s Jingle Jungle 5k, The Disney marathon, Goofy’s Challenge, and The Tinkerbell 5k and 10k! (as of 7/22/2013)

*Disclosure: I was a guest of Disney sports for this event. They provided me with accommodations, flight, meals, and park tickets. However, all opinions are my own.
