Pregnancy Update: Week 18

Another week has flown by. I do wish it would slow down a little! I have felt pretty good this week, some days I ever forget I am pregnant for a little while because I am feeling much more normal.

The belly is definitely growing (sadly, along with other parts, ha!) and I can’t wait for my anatomy scan next Wednesday!

18weeks bump

Let’s compare week 12 and week 18 to see how much I have changed in 6 short weeks.

12weeks bump2 18weeks bump

Yikes! II t’s crazy to think I am going to get SO much bigger, too. Oy.

So let’s take a look at how this past week has gone:

Symptoms: A lot of the same…acne, peeing a lot, tired, can’t focus well, emotions all over the place, round ligament pain when I run, get lightheaded if I stand up too fast. But honestly, those symptoms while annoying, don’t really change my ability to function on a somewhat normal level, so I am feeling good this week.

Baby’s Size: Sweet potato and bell pepper are the two I have seen.

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new, but can fit into less and less of my normal things!

Stretch Marks: still ok

Sleep: Eh. I have no trouble falling asleep but if I wake up in the night I am wide awake at least an hour or two, and it’s maddening! Plus I pee 1-3 times a night.

Miss Anything?: Sleeping on my stomach. That will be a glorious day!

Cravings: My sweet tooth has been in overdrive, especially for chocolate. Easter candy was consumed in abundance.

Aversions: Still iffy on veggies, red sauce, and large portions of protein in one sitting. I snack a lot.

Looking Forward to: Seeing my family this weekend, although the occasion is sad (my grandmothers funeral).

What I’m Loving: Feeling relatively normal this past week. It’s been nice to feel a little more like myself and not like my body has been taken over.

unnamed (5)

Workouts: Not as good this week. After my race last weekend I took it easy for a few days because my round ligament paid was bad from the race. I did walk five times, run 2.5 miles once, and did the stationary bike at the gym + arm weights once.

QOTD: Ladies who have been pregnant: Did you feel “normal” at this stage? Anyone else: How were your workouts last week?

Questions for You

1.) Should I cut my hair? It’s getting way long and it’s getting way hot outside, and I never ever feel like fixing it b/c it takes too long to blow dry and straighten. Is a mom cut in my future? (***Edited to add, chopping off hair to me = shoulder length, so yes I could still put it in a ponytail!)

2.) Have you ever fed a stray cat? If so, you know that once you feed them, they don’t leave. We have had a visitor in our backyard the past few days. We think kitty lives under the dumpster next to our house (temporarily there for construction on the home being built next door) so I named said kitty “Oscar” since it lives under the dumpster/trash. Smile

3.) What are some things you have had good luck selling on ebay? Trying to make a little extra cash and wondering what I could get rid of that someone else may want. As they say, one man’s trash…

4.) Anyone know how to get rid of carpenter bees? You know the ones that bore holes in your wooden deck? Yeah….

5.) How many times have you seen the movie Frozen? I have seen it twice but have yet to force Bobby to watch. It is my mission for the week. Do you wanna build a snowman?

Bumpdate on the blog tomorrow!

QOTD: Answer one of the above 5 questions (or more!)

A Quick and Delicious Start

I have partnered with belVita and Dannon to help promote the belVita and Dannon partnership. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program, which includes writing about the promotion and product. However, my opinions are entirely my own, and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.

I will admit, I am not a big breakfast eater. This goes back to my elementary school days, and I am just typically never that hungry in the mornings. This has come back to haunt me in my pregnancy, so I am having to be careful to make sure I get a full and nutritious breakfast in the mornings not only for my health but for the health of my baby. I don’t like to spend a lot of time preparing something most days, and prefer to get straight to work at my laptop. When I heard about the partnership with Dannon and belVita, and their quick and convenient breakfast partnership, I was excited to try this #MorningWin for myself. no cooking involved, just grabbing a quick but filling breakfast is right up my alley.

The yogurt contains 12 grams of protein (twice as much as regular non fat yogurt), and the belVita crunchy biscuits give me continuous energy to power me through until lunch time. (Everything tastes great, too!) I will try any flavor of Greek yogurt, but I went with my standby of strawberry this time. As far as the belVita goes, I bought golden oat and cinnamon brown sugar, and the honey oat is my favorite! Other belVita flavors are apple cinnamon, chocolate, and blueberry. Each package of biscuits is individually wrapped with 4 biscuits, so they are easy to throw in your purse along with your yogurt to eat on the go if necessary.

For someone busy in the mornings, it can help to have a plan for how to get the most out of your time when you wake up. Check out these tips:

Tips to get the most out of your morning:

-Prepare as much as you can the night before, you will thank yourself in the morning!

-Plan your to do list a day early. Again, less to do the next day!

-Start your morning with a yummy, balanced breakfast. This will help ensure that you have the stamina to get your to do list done, and have a productive day!

Be sure to visit the Dannon and belVita websites for more product information, and use hashtag #MorningWin when talking about this great breakfast combo!

QOTD: What is your favorite easy/go to breakfast?

I know I haven’t been on social media as much this past week, but it’s been a little crazy around here. My grandmother who was very sick and in hospice since last Monday, passed away Wednesday evening. She was only 81, and my last living grandparent.

My parents are out of the country right now, so we are not having the funeral for a week until they get back. My maw maw broke her hip about a month ago, had surgery, and was in rehab when her kidneys began to fail and she was too weak for dialysis.

Bobby and I drove to New Orleans to see her in the ICU, she was basically in a coma not speaking, moving, or responding. That is the last time I saw her, two weeks ago, as she was brought to hospice the next day and has been there since.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been thinking of us and praying for us during this time, we appreciate you so much, and I hope you understand my absence on the blog/social media over the next week or so until this is all settled.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Crescent City Classic 10k Recap 2014

This was my third year running the Crescent City Classic, and this year was by far the most enjoyable.

Last year I was going for a PR, so I was really stressed out the entire time and didn’t have as much fun. This year, being pregnant, there was no chance of a PR so Bobby and I decided to just take it easy, enjoy the course, and take lots of photos. I am so glad we did, we had a blast and got to see several blogger friends as well.

We stayed the weekend at my parents about 35 minutes from the race start in downtown New Orleans, so we woke up at 5:15 so we would have plenty of time to drive over to the race.

Gorgeous sunrise on the way across the lake.

We parked at the Superdome, and hung out in Champions Square while we waited to meet up with some other bloggers.

We had to go through a security checkpoint to get to this area and the corrals, but luckily we were there early so there were no lines.

Panera Bread and Community Coffee were both set up in the square with free cinnamon bagels and coffee for the runners. The weather was great, a little chilly to start but it definitely warmed up!

We met up with some blends, and before we realized it the race was about to start so we had to dodge and weave to get into our corral.

Larisa, Jen, me and Nicole.

Just 25,000 of my closest friends.

We hit the starting line, crossed over the timing mat, and were off on a 6.2 mile adventure! We started in front of the Superdome then headed towards the French Quarter down Decatur.

As soon as we started running, I immediately had to go to the bathroom even though I went when we arrived at the race. I knew this would happen, and kept my eyes open for a good time to stop. I knew we were coming up on some well hidden public restrooms, so we ran as I looked, and before I knew it we were passing St. Louis Cathedral.

Then we passed the always delicious Café du Monde.

Finally I spotted the bathroom, and luckily there was no one even in there, hooray! I felt much better after that and we continued on through the quarter.

We turned onto Esplanade, which is a great street to run on because it is entirely shaded by huge beautiful trees.

I loved looking at all the old homes, and there were so many spectators cheering us on!

We passed one of my favorite sights on the course, free beer and breakfast! Oh, the breakfast is alligator sausage. Only in New Orleans my friends.

I passed on the sausage and beer, but a lot of people were taking it!

These folks had free mimosas. Yum. If only I wasn’t pregnant I would be all over that!

The miles were ticking away, and soon we were coming off of this street and out into the sun towards the park and the Museum of Art. I remembered these last couple miles being tough because there is no shade and no great scenery to look at. We took a few walk breaks because I didn’t want to get overheated.

We made it into the park, and had a mile to go. The Saints mascot gumbo and the new New Orleans Pelican mascot were out at the mile 5 water stop, so of course this girl had to get a “character photo.”

We were in the home stretch as we passed the museum of art. Only .3 to go!

We rounded a corner to the last .2, which I love. It’s a gorgeous oak tree lined street. I kicked it in and we pushed hard to the finish.

We did it! Our time was 1:19. Definitely my slowest 10k and over 20 minutes off my PR, but also my most fun 10k! I felt very accomplished especially with how I had been feeling. I took two Tylenol before the race to help with the round ligament pain, and it definitely helped a lot. I was still uncomfortable but it was bearable.

We walked a good bit to make it to the entrance to the race fest, and got our medals before heading in.

Runners got in free, and spectators were only $5 which is a great deal if you ask me, all the Jambalaya, red beans and rice, and beer you can drink, plus live music!

Before we headed to the VIP tent we had to go find where to pick up our race shirts since we didn’t go to the expo, and we stopped off for some grub.

There were people EVERYWHERE.

We made it to the tent to discover lots of amazing food and drinks for us. We enjoyed having a shady place to hang out and eat with my blogger buddies and all recap our race experiences.

Bobby put his name down for a free massage, too.

Melanie, Me, Larisa, Mindy, and Holly in the VIP area after the race.

We got a text from some other friends to meet up out in the main area, so we went out to chat and for more picture taking!

We stayed about two hours after the race just hanging out, then decided it was time to head back. I was hoping since we had stayed so long the bus line would be shorter…I was wrong. This is my only complaint about this race. Since we parked downtown, we had to take a shuttle back to the Superdome after the race, and we waited in line 31 minutes just to get on a bus, and I was so tired and ready to be on our way home. They had several busses lined up but were only loading one or two at a time, I’m not sure why there weren’t more volunteers loading up 5 or 6 busses at a time. Honestly other than that the race was perfect, so it’s really my only complaint! Maybe next year we will park at the finish and shuttle to the start instead so we can leave right after.

All in all we had a great time and the weather could not have been more perfect. If you are looking for a laid back, fun New Orleans race this is for you. You definitely get your money’s worth, and get to experience a New Orleans after party as well as running through some great parts of the city! Not to mention it is an EXTREMLY flat and fast course, great for a PR. I can’t wait for next year, I won’t be missing this race.

QOTD: What us your favorite thing to see at a race after party?

Pregnancy Update: Week 17

Another week has gone by! I can’t believe in just two weeks I have my anatomy scan (but we are not finding out the sex until our gender party that Saturday). It’s been fun to see people due around the same time as me starting to find out what they are having, I can’t believe it’s so close for me, too!

17weeks bump

Let’s compare week ten with week 17.

10weeks bump17weeks bump

I feel like I look ssooo sickly and tired in my week 10 picture, because well…I was feeling pretty crappy! Let’s take a look at what is going on this week.

Symptoms: This acne is going to be the death of me….and round ligament pain still…even when I just power walk. I am not one of the lucky ones who can run miles upon miles with no issues! Also, I feel like I have to pee all. the. time. I start running. Have to pee. Doesn’t matter if I just went. Sinus issues/stuffed up nose and ears but not really a huge deal. Occasional headache, but not often. Round ligament and acne are really my two main ones right now. I know last week I talked about feeling lightheaded and weak in the mornings even after eating, and I am happy to report this ha gotten better! I am forcing myself to eat MORE calories in the morning and also eating more iron rich foods. Hoping it was just a phase!

Baby’s Size: Turnip

Maternity Clothes: Haven’t bought any more. Trying to make do with what I have but the amount of regular tops I can wear is getting less and less!

Stretch Marks: Still ok!

Sleep: Pretty good this week. Getting up on average once a night to go to the bathroom.

Miss Anything? Not feeling bad about caffeine. I would love a big starbucks, fully caffeinated iced coffee.

Cravings: Same. Cold and frozen things. Also, all the chocolate. All of it.

Aversions: Still not crazy about veggies (but really, was I before?) and large portions of any one thing, especially dense things like chicken or beef.

Looking Forward to: Feeling baby kicks! Hopefully soon!

What I’m Loving: That I finally feel like I look pregnant and not just chubby in the middle, and that while I still don’t CRAVE a ton of food, I am eating better and better!

Workouts: I took it easy the first half of the week because I had the big 10k on Saturday which was SUPER fun (recap tomorrow). My time was slow but I did it and am proud of myself! Back to walking with occasional running until this round ligament pain (hopefully) goes away.

Easter 2014

QOTD: Did your round ligament pain ever go away? Who raced this past weekend?

Easter Weekend 2014

Good morning! We are back home from visiting my family for Easter, and we had a great weekend. We were blessed to have the most gorgeous weather the entire time, and spent a ton of time sitting outside enjoying the low humidity.

We arrived Friday afternoon and went to dinner for my dad’s birthday then had cake and ice cream back at the house.

Saturday Bobby and I were up early for the Crescent city classic in New Orleans. Over 25,000 people were registered for the race! (Recap to come on Thursday). We had a blast, and came home and sat outside with my parents. Bobby may have fallen asleep on the porch.

unnamed (3)

My parents got a new patio set for the backyard, and my dad spent a ton of time working in the backyard making it beautiful for spring and this is where we we spent most of the weekend.

Sunday morning we went to my parent’s church and heard my mom sing in the choir.

After church, we did some grilling in preparation of two of my aunts and uncles coming over for lunch.

We had a great lunch and a fun time visiting with family Sunday.

The rest of Sunday was just relaxing and chatting, a great way tow rap up a holiday weekend. We left Monday morning, with plenty of leftovers now in our refrigerator. What a great weekend!

Bella is worn out, too. By the way, today is Bella’s 6th birthday!

QOTD: What did you do for Easter?

Easter Meaning

Happy (Good) Friday yall! Today is a very special day for me. I know a lot of you aren’t religious, but hopefully you know if you had read my blog at all that I am a Christian, so this weekend means a lot to me.

I will be visiting with my family all weekend, so I won’t be around much. Bobby and I are also running the Crescent City Classic 10k on Saturday! I am really looking forward to a fun weekend and hope you are, too.

I hope you know if you ever have any questions about Good Friday, or resurrection Sunday (or anything else related!) That I would be more than happy to talk to you about it, and not in a pushy way!

Have a great weekend everyone, see ya on Monday! I leave you with the lyrics to a great song: (you can listen here)

Christ Is Risen

Let no one caught in sin remain
Inside the lie of inward shame
We fix our eyes upon the cross
And run to him who showed great love
And bled for us
Freely you bled, for us

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave!

Beneath the weight of all our sin
You bow to none but heavens will
No scheme of hell, no scoffer’s crown
No burden great can hold you down
In strength you reign
Forever let your church proclaim

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave

Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave

Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
The glory of God has defeated the night!
Oh death! Where is your sting?
Oh hell! Where is your victory?
Oh Church! Come stand in the light!
Our God is not dead, he’s alive! he’s alive!

Christ is risen from the dead
Trampling over death by death
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Christ is risen from the dead
We are one with him again
Come awake, come awake!
Come and rise up from the grave
Rise up from the grave…

QOTD: Do you celebrate Easter?

Pregnancy Update: Week 16

16 weeks already, and more of my blogger friends are announcing pregnancies! I love it! So many babies coming this fall. I am now wearing maternity clothes full time when I am wearing “real” clothes, aside from some larger t-shirts and things. I have a long torso, so shirts are already almost too short on me, so add in a baby belly and it doesn’t take long for them to REALLY be too short on me.

16weeks bump

Definitely some new/different developments this week. I felt great all week the wham, Monday I felt like I was back in my first tri. Didn’t want to eat, felt yucky, and was exhausted. Like, spent ten hours plus a 1.5 hour nap exhausted. That was depressing, but I am feeling a little better today. A lot has been going on in my family so it could be stress related as well. I’m also having some different symptoms, so let’s move on and take a look.

Symptoms: occasional headaches, acne, forgetfulness, emotional, and now dealing with low blood sugar or possibly low iron. I get really weak and shaky/dizzy (always dizzy when I stand up too fast) so trying to eat more balanced meals, iron, etc. and get this under control. Still experiencing round ligament pain some, but I only ran once last week and that seemed to be when it was the worst, so I didn’t run anymore (Well, I did a run walk once). Also slight swelling in my feet when I stand too long.

Baby’s Size: Avocado

Maternity Clothes: Life savers on bottom. Loving maxi dresses and flowy skirts in particular!

Stretch Marks: nada

Sleep: Not getting up to pee as much, usually once a night, had a decent week!

Miss Anything?: A hard sweaty workout. I just haven’t felt up to it.

Cravings: Same. Anything frozen or really cold. And chocolate.

Aversions: eh. A lot of things, and some things I can eat just not in large quantities. I can eat grilled chicken but just a few bites then I can’t handle it, for example.

Looking Forward To: Planning our gender reveal BBQ with my mom and hashing out all the details this weekend. (Date is set for Mother’s Day weekend!)

What I’m Loving: That I finally am starting to look pregnant and not just chubby.

Workouts: One run, one run/walk, and 3 other walks. Also a 30 minute circuit in my living room of various exercises and stretches. Not a great week, but it was a little out of whack with going to my parents and up to the hospital to see my grandmother etc.

QOTD: Anyone else suffer from dizziness/low blood sugar or low iron when pregnant?

New runDisney Medals Revealed

Hey everyone, first of all thank you so much for your kind words yesterday about my grandmother. My dad met with the social worker yesterday afternoon, and she was moved to Hospice by ambulance yesterday evening. Please keep praying especially for my mom and dad as they have to handle all of this.

On a happier note, you may have noticed runDisney released two new medals in the past couple of days, and they are so pretty! Not only that, they spin! I have become obsessed with spinner medals ever since my 2013 marathon weekend medal was put around my neck. It’s still my favorite! Can I just say how bummed I am to be missing out, particularly on Wine and Dine? I’m guessing this is just one of many sacrifices I will be making for my children Smile I love the colors and designs for both medals. The creative minds behind these designs just keep impressing me every time!

First up, the Wine and Dine 5th Anniversary medal. I LOVE the color!

wineanddine2014(2) wineanddine2014

Next, the 10 year Goofy design.

Obsessed with both. Too bad I swore off full marathons for a long time. Heh.

Sadly it’s too late to register for Wine and Dine, but, you can sign up to get your very own shiny new Goofy medal when registration opens! Folks, anniversary years sell out FAST so DO NOT wait around if you want to take part. Registration opens April 22, but if you are an annual passholder or DVC member, you can register THIS WEDNESDAY, April 16th. You can go to for more information and to sign up when registration opens.

QOTD: Did you/will you sign up for these? Thoughts on the medals? Do you like ones that spin?
