Bobby is 31!

Today my husband Bobby turns 31 years old. Not near as a “milestone” as last years big 3-0, but still important, it is a birthday after all!

17957_531703285808_61700476_31334083_1707751_n

I like to have fun with birthdays, and I made some signs for Bobby’s apartment that I snuck in and decorated with when he turned 21 I believe. We have a running joke and every year we “reuse” the signs and change the numbers (I had 21 written in puff paint on the corner and so every year we paper clip the new number over the original one). However, this year I am sad as I didn’t bring them up to the new place with us. We just had so much going on, but this is the first year we won’t be using them. I know it sounds silly, but I am all about tradition.

I am so glad I have gotten to share so many birthdays with Bobby, and can’t wait to share many many more!

He adds so much laughter and happiness to my life, I don’t know what I would do without him.

Happy birthday, Bobby! I love you!

QOTD: Do you have any birthday traditions?

Golf Outing

On Thursday, Bobby and I hit a local golf course because Bobby had a couple for 9 free holes of golf the course sent him on his birthday. It was a hot afternoon, but we figured it was as good a time as any.

golf

I of course was the official driver and locator of golf balls in the trees. Smile Poor Bobby doesn’t get to practice as much as he would like. He hasn’t played in a year!

golf2

It was an older course that wasn’t in great shape…but really for free I wasn’t going to complain, but wow it was bad. At some parts, the path just disappeared and you went off into the grass until it reappeared again. There were tree roots going all through the course, and the sand traps had more grass in them than sand. Oy.

However, I did have fun zipping around in the cart and keeping score for Bobby. I also got to putt a few times. I’m not too shabby, but let’s also say I have no future in golf.

golf3

I also got to try out my snazzy new Under Armour shoes. Love them, way cool.

It was a fun way for the two of us to spend a couple of hours together just goofing off and having fun. We are hoping to go back and do the same thing next week. Maybe we will wait until about 6:00 instead of 2:30. I was ready for some air conditioning!

QOTD: Do you play golf, or ride in the cart? Hate golf all together?

Triathlon: Bobby’s View

Bobby took over my blog for the day, I hope you enjoy his point of view!

Each year our neighborhood hosts a triathlon. Two years ago we spectated, and last year we volunteered. I’ve been saying for more than the past two years that I wanted to do a triathlon, but I somehow still managed to surprise Heather when I told her that I was actually going to do it.

543739_319951261466363_1790395505_n

Granted the shock was probably due to…well this is how the conversation went:

Me: “I’m going to do the Tradition triathlon this year.”

Heather: “What?! It’s less than two months away and you haven’t trained, don’t have a wetsuit, or even a bike!”

I was tired of putting it off and this was the perfect opportunity. Besides, I have been lifting weights and running for years and this was only a sprint tri, how hard could it be? Okay, so I’m not completely oblivious. I know that anytime you participate in an athletic event that your body is not used to, it’s tough.

For those who don’t know, a sprint tri is short. Mine was one lap around the lake = 600 yards, a 17ish mile bike ride, and a 5k (3.1 mile) run. I knew that I could handle the run and I bike at the gym often, so it was really just adding in a swim. I began training as much as I could. I ordered a wetsuit and had Jen’s husband, Jeff, help me pick out a bike. By the time I had everything, the triathlon was a month out.

Swimming… is a bit different over long distances than doing laps in there pool where I pause between each one and catch my breath. I found this out by participating in a training day with the local running club. Rather than describe that painful experience, let’s just say I ended up watching YouTube videos on proper swim technique and doing how-to-breath exercises in the pool. I joined the club again for a bike/run brick workout (brick workouts are doing two of the events in one training session for those who, like me until recently, didn’t know that) and felt confident I could at least complete the tri.

DSC_0585

Heather did a write up on the day of the event that you can read here: https://heatherslookingglass.com/bobbys-first-triathlon/

I’ll simply add a few comments. I finished and was okay with my time. Something I didn’t do well was transitions. Apparently this is NOT the time when you sit down, rest, take a few drinks, dry off five times, and enjoy the scenery. I refuse to admit to the actual time it took me in my transitions, especially after seeing the posted times of everyone else, but let’s just say there is PLENTY of room for improvement.

The swim was the hardest part for me. The wetsuit made it easier, but I still need to work on breathing. I had a hard time keeping oxygenated and had to flip over and back stroke a few times. Even with that, my time was good because I can swim relatively fast for a 200+ pounder between the breaks. The bike was the easiest part, and the course was pleasant. The run was doable, though it was a crazy experience getting to run on legs that felt one part Jello and one part cement, at least for the first mile. Oh the sound of feet flopping around.

DSC_0616

It was an overall good time and I plan to do more in the future. I like the distance of the sprint tri because it doesn’t make me feel like death, but is still challenging. I simply don’t have the time, or the desire for that matter, to put in the training it would take to do something like an Ironman, so I’ll stick with the short ones. If you are like I was and want to do one, just sign up and go for it.

I’ll leave you with this video I took during my training:

QOTD: What do you wish you knew about running or a tri before your first race that you learned the hard way?

Celebration Recap

Happy weekend! This one couldn’t come soon enough. it has been quite the roller coaster of a week here in the Montgomery household, and I am looking forward to some relaxation.

I just wanted to do a little recap of Bobby’s birthday celebration, just a quick few pictures for you before you go spend time with YOUR family away from the computer (hint hint)

I decorated the house like I do every year, and got him a cheesy card. Our “big gift” to each other is the fancy Inn we are staying at in July at the beach. I did get him a couple fun little things though, I couldn’t resist!

QOTD: Do you ever get more than one birthday cake?

Bobby’s Thirty!

I am married to someone in their 30’s. I used to think this was SO old, and now it’s happening in my life. Today is Bobby’s 30th birthday!

DSC_0956

Isn’t he a stud? I am one lucky gal. I met Bobby when he was the ripe old age of 21. We got married when he was 23, and now I get to make fun of him for two years until I turn 30.

We have had some great times together. He is so silly, and always makes me laugh.

he is also my biggest cheerleader.

QOTD: Do you celebrate milestone birthdays a little more than regular ones? (18, 21, 25, 30, 40, etc.)

29 for the First Time

Today is a very special day. Not just because it’s national running day (more on that later) My husband, Bobby, turns 29 today!!! I told him to enjoy his last birthday in his 20’s (speaking of which…when did we get so old? Weren’t we just in college? Weren’t we just newlyweds? Sigh.) At any rate, it’s his special day! Unfortunately he will be at work all day….and then again tomorrow evening. Major bummer. Only upside is now I can go to yoga! We celebrated with my parents over the weekend, and will celebrate more I am sure. (Can you tell we really like to celebrate special occasions?)

DSC_1026

My parents and I surprised him with a cake, hence the goofy look on his face. He went upstairs to do something, so we pulled out the cake, lit the candles, and told him to come downstairs. I’m very very sneaky. He underestimates my sneakiness.

DSC_1029

DSC_1030

He is a big fan of Star Wars, but was not amused when I pulled out the Star Wars plates and napkins I had bought.

DSC_1035

So, apparently the lady at the cake shop thought my mom said the cake needed to say “Happy Birthday mommy” so they had to wipe it off and change it. I told her she should have let them leave it haha!

DSC_1032

Last year, I was not with Bobby on his birthday, I was in California, so I am glad I get to celebrate with him this year! Happy birthday Bobby! I love you so much and am so glad I get to celebrate with you!

————————-

As I stated earlier, today is also National Running Day. I hope you will get out and run, even if it’s just a mile!

Be sure to check out the Website, there is some great info on there. One of the things on the site asks you WHY you run. So, here are my answers:

-I run to be healthy for my family so I can be around a long time

-I run as a stress relief and to be alone with my thoughts

-I run because it’s fun

-I run because I love having goals and competing with myself.

QOTD: Why do YOU run? Ok, now get out there and DO IT! Are you running today?

Love Story

I first saw this cute survey on Brittany’s blog and knew I had to post as well! So in honor of Valentine’s Day (a day late) here are my answers to our Love Story:

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?

We started dating September 2004, then we got engaged December 2005, and married January 2007…so…7.5 years? WOW! Doesn’t seem that long.

2005

2. How did you meet? {What’s your “love” story?}

Bobby and I met a couple of times my freshman year of college but were both involved with other people. Both single, we really “met” our first weekend of college my sophomore year, his senior year. We were playing on opposing sand volleyball teams in the intermural tournament. He started talking to me and asked for my number “so he could let me know the next time they were playing volleyball so I could join.” Rrriiggghhhttt….

2005

3. If married, how long have you been married?

We celebrated out five year anniversary on January 6 of this year.

4. Where did you get married? Big or small wedding?

We had a big New Orleans wedding, over 200 people. The ceremony was at First Baptist New Orleans and the reception was at Southern oaks Plantation. It was amazing.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!

Honey, sweetheart, hon, sweetie…boring stuff. :0P

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.

I could name a bunch but 1.) he loves God more than anything 2.) He would bend over backwards (and has) to make me happy. 3.) he has strong family and moral values that fit in with what we both want out of life.

7. Tell us how he proposed?

The day of my last winter exam Junior year. In the living room of my apartment after we watched an episode of Friends and ate dinner on TV trays. he said he just couldn’t stand it another minute.

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberries, champagne, and rose petals?

Really not either. He can do both and has, but we are more low key and don’t tend to do traditional Valentine’s day gifts.

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?

Once again, really both. We love the beach (and food!) but also love just relaxing together at home.

10. Tell us one thing you’d like to do with your significant other one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?

Hhhmm…we love to travel, so just travel more I guess? I’m boring, I have come to grips.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine’s Day.

Well I can tell you what we DID, since it was yesterday. We both worked and then met at our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner. Then we had to go to Wal-Mart and buy him some specific clothes for a TV show he is filming in today as an extra, then we came home and hung out.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine’s day?

I didn’t ask for anything in particular but got two amazing gifts. A new piece of furniture and a trip to Disneyland to run the half marathon! I get my coast to coast medal!

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.

Communication. I know it’s cliché but your spouse cannot read your mind, so talk and share.

Saturday in Pictures & Workout Recap

Yesterday, my Sunday school class and their families went to the place my husband works to do a mission project. They have some older buildings that needed repainting and we agreed to do it for them. The day started off gloomy and windy but turned to be beautiful and a great day for painting. (Although, I must say my shoulders disagree that it as a perfect day, very, very sore!)

Here are a few pictures my lovely friend Gina took of the occasion.

Five Years and Counting

I cannot believe it’s January 6 2012! On this day, five years ago, I walked down the aisle and said “I do.” I remember being so proud that we made it to one year, and we were no longer “newlyweds,” but it seems like just yesterday we were dancing the second line dance with boas and umbrellas in New Orleans.

For those of you who have been long time loyal blog readers, I apologize if you have to see some of the same pictures again, but I can’t help it, I loved my wedding and want to share it with you. Smile I did a whole recap last year, so you can find it on our four year anniversary post. It was quite the crazy wedding day so I suggest reading it if you like wedding recaps! I also wrote a post during the royal wedding which includes some pictures from my big day.

It was a fun day to say the least. I love looking back on pictures over the last five years, it’s so funny to see how much we have grown and changed. I’m sure we will be saying the same thing on our 10, 15, 20, 25 and so on anniversaries. Bobby and I are so blessed to have found each other, and I thank God for making us specifically for each other. I leave you with the lyrics to a song I love, one that was beautifully sung at our wedding.

When God Made You

its always been a mystery to me,
How two hearts can come together,
And love can last forever.
But now that I have found you I believe,
That a miracle has come when God sends the perfect one.
So gone are all my questions about why,
And i’ve never been so sure of anything in my life

~chorus~

Oh I wonder what God was thinking, when he created you.
I wonder if He knew everything I would need,
Because he made all my dreams come true.
When God made you, He must have been thinking about me.

(Girls)

Ooo ooo,I promise that wherever you may go, wherever life may lead you,
With all my heart I’ll be there too.
And from this moment on I want you to know,
I’ll let nothing come between us, and I will love the ones you love.
(guy):So gone are all my questions about why (girl echoes):about why                                                 and I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life

Duet:Oh I wonder what God was thinking when he created you,
I wonder if He knew everything I would need,
Because He made all my dreams come true.
When God made you He must’ve been thinking about me.

Bridge

He made the sun He made the moon,
To harmonize a perfect tune,
One can’t do without the other they just have to be together.
And that is how I know its true,
Your for me and I’m for you and my world
Just cant be right without you in my life

Chorus

(guy) He must have heard every prayer I’ve been praying (girl echo)
I’ve been praying (both)He must’ve knew everything I would need

When God made you, He must’ve been thinking about me.

QOTD: What was sung at your wedding? If you aren’t married, what do you want sung at your wedding?

Geaux!

Good morning! It’s a good day to be an LSU Tiger! The first half may not have been pretty, but we did it, and are SEC champions! Next stop, BCS championship game. I almost had a heart attack during half time, but they didn’t let me down in the second half. I proudly sported my LSU shirt today at Bobby’s cheer competition. Oh yes, you read that right. I hobbled around with my boot at a cheerleading competition. Lots of little girls and lots of makeup and hair bows!

Not only does Bobby coach tumbling and partner stunting, but he competes on their open squad (coed any age) and they performed today at a competition in town for fun as an exhibition team. They did really really well for hardly ever practicing. Ha! Bobby can do a lot cooler of stunts than some of the ones he did here, but this is just a taste of his capability. He’s really really good!

Bobby is 2nd guy from the right (I zoom in on him in the beginning and several times during the competition while he is doing stunts)

For those that don’t know, Bobby was supposed to play football in college, but after football season his senior year of high school he had to have major stomach surgery and was told he couldn’t play anymore (being hit in the stomach would not be good.) He had some friends who did cheer and we ended up being a natural, and he competed for 5 years in college and coached (and still currently does) for many many years. He’s not the best tumbler, but he is great at partner stunting.

He even got a trophy. Weeeeee!

2011-12-03133228

Sadly, I don’t have a flexible bone in my body, and was taller than the girls he puts up when I was in 5th grade so sadly for my future offspring, cheering is probably NOT in their future. Hopefully they will be all over volleyball and basketball though. Smile
